I wonder if they do flip it how much it will sell for. I don't think anyone would do a reno and flip there. It's a teardown, and there will be a McMansion in its place.

That's cheap! LOL I'm about ready to walk down my street to look at an open house, and it's listed for the same price (much nicer, but we're in a less $$ area). We paid about 1/4 of that...it's insane here. I just keep paying my principal down and am hoping to sell someday and pay cash elsewhere.

My aunt and uncle built a custom home in Palo Alto back in the 40's; after he passed away and she downsized it sold for $2.4, which doesn't include the money they put into tearing it down and rebuilding (I'm sure, given it's age and lack of remodeling).

It looks like an old out building someone turning in to a main living area that hasn't stood the test of time very well. And it looks filthy.
The same thing is happening in Austin.

And that is why I live in colorado Ha! We left Colorado in 1997 because bunches of Californians had moved in and driven up the price of housing ... we couldn't afford to stay! It wouldn't surprise me if we (Colorado) will be like that in years to come. My friend just moved from here to Texas. They got $5,000 over asking and then paid cash for a house in Texas. No house payment. She was telling me she couldn't believe all the things to do there was so cheap compared to Colorado.

I just checked Zillow for that zip code. That's a million $ neighborhood.
On another note, if you want to move to Texas a million dollars will buy you a VERY nice house!

Location, location, location. If it were a block or two from the beach it would also be that much. What I was going to say

Looks like a good deal if it were in Vancouver BC. Craziness! You could buy a dozen quarters of land for that price around here.

Sounds like a decent price for the area. You'd die at what a friend just paid for a house in Menlo Park.

I have a cute little two bed/two bath condo that size, but a lot nicer, I would happily sell for $135k. Of course it's in Montana. A house that price around here would have a chef's kitchen, theater room, a pile of bedrooms and overly fancy bathrooms. And maybe some lakefront. And a boathouse. And a guesthouse. An maybe even a few llamas thrown in to sweeten the deal.

A piece of land that size in my city would cost the same. The house doesn't even matter, as it would be a tear down.

Nope. Totally accurate and common for that area. Cupertino, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, San Jose, Palo Alto. It's all about the tech and high dollar amounts people are paid. Absolutely yes! That's actually low for Cupertino. I've seen them go for much more. We just sold our home in San Jose and moved to the East coast.

The houses in their neighborhood (built in the early 1980's) are going for $1.5million and up. They'll sell next year when their new house in Livermore is ready. i chose to move to Calaveras county since that is where I could afford to live. My house is worth around $350k out here. Bay Area, it would be well over $1mil. Crazy!

I live in a million dollar neighborhood..nothing fancy. except our houses don't touch the one next door. the way people stay here is they bought 30 yrs ago, like us. with low property taxes, no one moves unless they have to..and in cupertino, you can't find apts to rent at any price..and most the apple people make over $100,000.. and much more.
so it is all location. and it is why 5000 people every day take a bus from SF to silicon valley.

Based in the listing, the average price in Cupertino is around $800/sq ft. This one is listed at $1200/sq ft.

Based in the listing, the average price in Cupertino is around $800/sq ft. This one is listed at $1200/sq ft. But it's smaller than average and the real value is in the land, in this case.

It has been on the market for 25 days, which is an eternity there. So, it likely is overpriced or there is an issue with the lot that makes it less desirable.

I know. We had bought our home in 1997 and within six months our home price literally doubled in value. We took really good care of it and couldn't believe the amount we received. We replaced and updated almost everything in the house. With the amount we received for it; we have been able to get a beautiful home with a little over an acre.

It probably doesn't matter what the house looks like inside. I bet it's either a teardown, or complete renovation. It's the location that's worth $1 million of that. That's what is happening in the Seattle area too.

Very common in Cupertino (at least it was when I lived in the Bay Area). These HUGE, tall houses on tiny lots (they build up since they can't build out...)

Wow! That house would be in the $60,000 range where I live.
Conversely, $1.25 million will get you a 5000-6000 square foot mansion.

My dad lived in a house very much like that in Cupertino in the 1970's. Wish he had stayed there and been able to sell it to make that kind of money. He died impoverished.
