Some of you who know me, might know that in addition to being a toy designer, I'm also a collector (mostly past-tense, due to lifestyle downsizing). A few months ago I was contacted by an editor at Country Living Magazine, who had seen my vast collections of vintage school books and school accessories on my collector blog. (You can check it out here). She was wondering if they could borrow some of my vintage school items for their upcoming September Back-to-School issue photo shoot. I was flattered, but sad too, because 99% of my collections were in storage in California. We were living in New Jersey until recently, and had left our household goods behind when we moved East in 2012. Before I could politely decline, I remembered that I did have a small collection of school books that I had managed to acquire in the 3+ years we had been in NJ, so I offered to send them to her. She was happy to take whatever I could send her. Well, the Country Living Magazine just hit the shelves, and yesterday I bought my copy. It was great to see my books, and get my name and blog name credit! I blogged about it here! (Pardon the photos, I wanted to get it up on the blog quickly, so just posted photos from my iPhone). I thought it would be fun to share it with the Peas! |

How cool! I don't remember any of your titles specifically, but I confess to a twinge in my heart when I recognized some of the fonts! What a neat collection...and congratulations! Love that magazine!

Love that magazine! I know exactly what you mean about the fonts! When I started collecting old school books, the illustrations grabbed me, but the fonts are what drew me in... I would spot the covers with their distinctive fonts, and they brought back a flood of memories. |

Really love the idea of collecting vintage school supplies - you have so many unique items! I especially am jealous of your copy of "The Island of the Blue Dolphins". One of the most memorable books of my childhood.

I must admit to being a little envious of your vintage books. I'm a librarian and over the years I've bought just a few vintage children's school books. I love the smell and feel of old books. Your collection is beautiful.

How fun!! I received my issue several days ago in the mail and admired all the vintage school items. Are you a fan of Country Living Magazine? Have you gone to any of the Country Living Fairs??

By chance do you have any Carolyn Haywood books in your collection? I adored her books as a kid, and read them to my kids when they were little.
