I have told both of my boys that they are not allowed to even consider having kids until I am caught up with their elementary school years. So far so good. Oh, too funny. I've told both of my girls the same thing!

I don't want to get caught up, then what would I scrap? I know being caught up isn't for everyone. I want to be caught up because I feel that my journaling is more heartfelt and has more detailed information and memories. When I'm journaling years old pictures I feel like my journaling is vague. Have you ever thought about just keeping a journal with the stories in it. I used to make a word document that I'd label with the month and then would type up the stories as they happened with the date added. So when I got a chance to work on those photos, I'd have the journaling. After 2 moves since 2012, I haven't kept it up. But while I did it was fabulous.

I will say that I don't have a need to be caught up, but I do feel it would be nice. That said. I have been trying to figure out a system this past year. What I've been doing is when I edit my photos for printing, I figure out which are stories that will need a traditional page, what are more digital pages, what are stories that can be put into pocket pages (and now what can be used in the pl app) or what are just photos I want out or itty bity stories that don't even warrant a whole page (these will go pocket page style with several together). If I had lightroom, I could tag them with different codes to make this easier. So I will eventually get it. But for now it's an excel spreadsheet. I want to work on the journaling for the pages as well at this time, but haven't gotten that far. I also put in what page protector design I'll use and which group of photos with it. I know some people will think I'm crazy for doing this to which I respond, "yes, yes, I am, but to each their own".

LisaDV, I used to do that years ago. I kept a notebook in my purse and would jot down things here and there that I wanted to scrap. Moments type of things and events memories and details. But then again, I was still scrapping fairly current pictures then. Then I took a 3-4 year break from scrapping and stopped doing that. I've tried to start again but I haven't been able to do it. Thanks for giving me a reminder about it. I have several small notebooks so I'm going to toss one into my bag and try to start again. I think I've decided to go ahead and do the monthly review type layouts for 2015. They won't be as minimalistic as the simplified memory keeping youtube video layouts, although I love that style. They won't be all one collection like the Simple Stories Yearography album either. I have supplies that I love and I don't want to rush the process too much and not use my stuff. So I'll do those layouts with embellishments and have fun with them. Some months will just have the review and I'll also scrap other stories or events that need their own layout. So it will be a happy medium for me.

If you get "caught up" with the monthly review pages, you can always go back and add in the more detailed pages about the stories you want to tell. LisaDV , the only time I use a journal is when I am on vacation. Then I will record the highlights of each day, and I include this as journaling in my travel album, whatever shape that may take. As to my regular albums, I have to keep telling myself with scrapbooking the same as I always told dd with her studying at University. Sometimes you just have to declare that you are DONE. I have closed off my summer album, but still have a stack of photos that "could" go into it. I have them sorted into groups and a list of possible titles for each group, and at some time I may scrap some or all of them, but I don't feel pressured to finish that album, because I have already declared it finished!

Elsabelle , that does sound like a great way to go! Enjoy! grammadee , I always journal first as I get my title if I'm using one and the whole mood for my page from the journaling. I also just scrapped photos from 2009 and 2010. I'm not a chronological scrapper by any means, although I do keep my albums in a rough chronological order. The idea of closing off an album without having the important stories told sends me into hives. Those stories may never get told, but I have them listed if I feel the need to go back to that time frame, but I'd never say "it's done". But I totally get how this works for others and think it's completely awesome that you can do it. --ok, gotta go put on the camomile lotion.

LisaDV when I "finish" an album I hope I have included all the "important stories". The pages I might add later are cute photos of kids who are already featured there, or events that recur several times a year: maybe I covered that in an album or two already. If, when going through the photos I decide that a particular set really needs to go into an album I have "closed" I scrap them, add an extra page protector, and pop the page into that book. It's just that I have so many photos that if I didn't draw the line somewhere I would be just getting further and further behind.
