Update! Well, the shelter just contacted me. Abby and I are meeting Jax, the all black one at 6:00 tonight! I won't be able to take him home cause they have to neuter and give shots. I hope Abby likes him and I hope Jax likes Abby! Fingers crossed!! I'm excited and a little nervous too. It's been so long since I have had a new dog in the house. As long as I can train him to use the doggie dog, I'll be golden! The shelter just sent me a email. I was approved. Now I'm hyperventilating. I have two dogs now. Holly my Lhasa is 14 and blind, she is in good health just not active and pretty much just sleeps and eats. Abby my shih tzu is 8 and still a holy terror. She tries to play with Holly but Holly just runs away. Do I want a third dog!? I did have 3 for quite some time. I had Bailey a Maltese but he went to the bridge at 15 2 years ago. There are two shih tzus at the shelter and were strays, no one ever claimed them. They were both recently groomed and are cute as buttons. Both are males 3-6 years old. How could no one have claimed them. If my dog went missing I'd be at every shelter banging on doors! What do you think guys? Add another pup to my family? I'm retired and live alone so my pups are my babies. I already have a name picked out. Jackson or Jax. My dad's name was Jack and everyone aways called him Jackson, so kind of a tribute to my dad. Here are their pix. They are both so cute, I want to take the two of them. I guess, if I do decide to adopt, I'll let Abby decide which one she wants for a brother.

They are both cute. I would probably let my dog pick which one she got along with better.

Take them both - that is why I have two golden retrievers from the rescue. Love them both so much!

Of course you need to bring one (or both) home. If I had to choose I'd take the black one

One is sweeter looking than the next. Were they brought to the shelter as a pair? Or they both just happened to be strays? I'm sure whatever you decide, it will be the right decision for you and your home. And if you can take only one, I would hope the other will be adopted quickly, each is so sweet looking. I'll be waiting to read what you and Abby decide.

I have 3 so I say YES!! [HASH]3 is my little lover, too. I can't imagine not having him. And the other 2 dogs play with the younger one all of the time. He keeps them hopping.

I also (like a PP) want to know if they were brought in together or if both are just strays? If they were brought in together, I really hope you will take both and keep them together. That is how I ended up with my two dachshunds. At the time that I rescued them, I had one dachshund. These two were curled up together in a carrier. The rescue group wanted to adopt them together but were willing to split them. There was no way I was going to let them be split so I took them both home. they have now been with me about 10.5 years and are both 13 to 14 years old. I lost my dachshund that I had when I adopted them about 5.5 years ago so it is only the two of them now.

I would adopt both. If they are brothers and at that age they are most likely accustomed to being together and it would be cruel to separate them

Whats three dogs if you already have two? Whats four dogs if you already have three? I think that you should get both and let them stay together. They might grieve each other if they are separated. You can do it. I have every bit of faith in your heart being big enough to hold the extra one.

Oh man, I think you jinxed me!! I came into work and had an email from a co-worker/friend that was a forward about a German Shepherd Dog looking for a new forever home. He's a young rescue that was in a temp home. I was toying with the idea of sending the email to dh because he wants a second GSD but I don't. Then I told him about the email when we went to lunch and now he is pestering me for a picture Ugh, why did I open my big mouth I want another Samoyed not another GSD

To answer everyone's question, no they were not found together. They were found wandering around in two different cities on different days. I still can't believe they weren't claimed. They both looked very well cared for! Poor guys. But I can only get one, as much as I'd love to get both, three puppies are my limit! I'm sure whatever one I don't choose, will find a home quickly, small breed dogs don't stay long at shelters.
The black and white one became available today as they have to keep them in a hold for 10 days to see if they are claimed. The black one will be available tomorrow. The black one is really pulling at my heart. I love his little white beard. I've been in contact with the shelter asking them to let me know when the black one is ready, then I'll go see both. Abby will make the decision, well, so will the shelter dog, he has to like Abby!!
I'm hoping that since the black one won't be available until tomorrow and I'm the first one showing interest, that I will be first in line for him.
Thanks for all the well wishes. And I WILL get Abby and Jax tested and treated with heart worm preventative. I promise!

Good luck with your pick, they are both really really cute. If you have to make a choice, pick the black one. As you probably already know, black dogs and cats are usually the last to be adopted, though this boy does have the small dog/adorable factor going for him. All these puppy threads makes me want another dog, but the huge GSD that currently resides here is probably enough for the moment!

Well you know, black dogs are less likely to get adopted, so...yes, you need that dog.
Let me be the first to congratulate you on your new family member, Jax!
