Hubbly and I are starting to plan for Christmas. I want to give one of those planning apps a shot, and I know there were peas who swore up and down that certain apps were really good.
Can you help out a gal and tell her which of the apps is "the" one to use?
Danke.

I SWEAR I'm going to start early this year too. What do these apps do?

Oh! Good thread!! interested and following. Yes, what does the apps each do? I keep a notebook every year of presents I buy. An app might be easier?

cindyupnorthI seem to remember that peas said the apps were easier. I usually keep a note going in my phone with all our ideas and actual expenses, which I am just fine with but I am willing to give an actual gift app a try. It was helpful to have a wedding app going during that planning so I guess I am basing my desire to try it off of that success.

Also, if this is something that the peas want to start, we could do a thread about it kind of like the book threads or the dinner threads. You know, kind of a motivation and also a place to just talk out the kinks?
Maybe that would even be better than an app.

I use the Christmas List app. It worked great last year & I am already inputting ideas/budgets/gifts for this year. It also tells me 94 days until Christmas

But certain apps and web sites say 94 days. I have a little wall display that has wooden blocks that you change to the days left and I use Alexa. I never understand the discrepancy.

It also tells me 94 days until Christmas I bought this app recently to track my purchases. Christmas is such a huge challenge in our house because of graduate school and travel schedules and I sincerely believe it will help. I have many children to buy for and I do try to keep the amount consistent. So the budget tool is useful also. We'll see - it was only a dollar so if it doesn't help I'm not out much.

I'm a longtime lurker, but I've been using Santa's Bag for a few years. I'm pretty sure I learned about it here. Hope that helps!

To answer the topic at hand I don't use an app personally. I have a planner and make my own inserts to track all the information. I have 2 good friends that use apps. They use, and love, Santa's Bag- Christmas Gift List.

I've recently started using Gift Planner. It also automatically starts lists for birthdays of the people you put in, if you enter their birthdates.

It is pretty good but I need just a little more space to write myself notes. So, I kinda use it as a shopping list on my phone but then, I use a google spreadsheet to keep track of everything. Then, if I need more space or a new column of info, it's very customizable.

You know what these gift/cmas apps need? a way to scan the bar code on the gifts we buy, and then just drag them, or input to that person's list. Then the cost, and everything is right there, and where you bought it, or something like that. I should invent that, eh? HA!!

With Gift Planner you can bring the webpage of the gifts you get online into the app using an extension. No cutting and pasting. But I agree that a barcode scanner would be great too for those things you buy at the store. (Although I'll admit we do about 80% of our Christmas shopping online). eta: I take that back You CAN scan the barcode in Gift Planner! It is a button on the Add Gift window! It then opens your camera (I'm using it on my iPad) and you scan the code. The item comes up, but you still have to say where you bought it and for how much, since the barcode is the same regardless of the store.

Do these apps have password protection? My dd tends to get on my phone.

I love my phone and ease of some apps, but I have to stay old-school for Christmas shopping. I keep mine on plain old index cards. It takes about three-four cards per year for all the lists I maintain. I keep them tucked into my Moleskin planner as that goes with me every day and everywhere. Plus the beauty of it is that I have YEARS worth of them tucked into my desk drawer. They take very little space, but I love that I can go back and see what I've gifted in previous years. I take a little walk down memory lane each year when I tuck the latest cards away.

Another vote for the Christmas List here. I've been using it for a couple of years and I incorporate birthdays into it too.
