I'm unsure. before I used to read so much I'd go and see a movie and enjoy it or not based on what was on the screen, if there was a surprise or a twist, then I'd be surprised. If someone died I wouldn't know about it until it happens.
Now I read more and the last few movies I've seen I already know the ending, it's kind of ruining it for me. I don't like spoilers and I don't like knowing what the ending will be. Having already read the book I find is taking a lot of the fun, anticipation, suspense etc out of watching movies. Plus if they deviate from the book too much then that annoys me as well.
I'm starting to think I should only see movies if I haven't read the book, because doing it the other way really isn't working for me. FTR I really liked the Girl On The Train book, but knowing the full story I think I would rather have seen the movie without knowing what was going to happen or how it was all going to play out.

I'm going to wait until there are more reviews out before I decide to see it. I think Emily is plain & dumpy enough* to fit my image of Rachel, but I hate that they changed the location to New York. Like cadoodlebug , I had really strong visual images of where they lived, the trains, etc., and it will be hard to let those go. ETA *I love an actor who is willing to look plain & dumpy on the big screen to be true to the role.

I borrowed the book from a gf and it's been sitting on my shelf to read but I haven't been able to yet so now I'm thinking I don't want to for the reasons you list. I hate going to a movie and knowing the outcome or surprises ahead of time. I was so excited to see American Sniper with Bradley Cooper. I wasn't familiar with the story beforehand and the day before I went to see it someone posted on FB the ending I was so pissed I almost didn't want to see the movie. I still did enjoy the film but I think my reaction to the end would have been more organic had I not known the outcome.

I watched it tonight and thought they did an okay job. Of course, the book is much better than the movie. However, I was so distracted by Anna's obvious wig. The actress couldn't dye her hair? Also, wished the movie took place in London like it was in the book. And they left out some important details. But overall, I would give it a B-/C+. Emily did a great job in her portrayal as alcoholic Rachel, as did the actress who played Megan.

zero interest here. I tried reading the book - and only made it to page 34 before giving up due to lack of interest Me too! I was beginning to think I was the only person who started the book and disliked it enough to give up.

I didn't read the book....so saw the movie without knowing a great deal except the basic plot....I thought the beginning was a little slow but overall, I really enjoyed the movie!

This is exactly the same for me. Also I'm very disappointed that it's not set in London!

The one that really sticks with me is Charlize Theron in Monster. How someone so utterly beautiful can transform themselves, not with clever prosthetics or cgi, but by getting so inside the head of such an evil character it transforms their whole face. Amazing.

I really liked the book when I was reading it, but after it was done, I was disappointed. There were just too many odd things. I thought the author did a great job of getting inside an alcoholic's head, but beyond that, there was just some stupid stuff. I'm not a big Emily Blunt fan and I had pictured Rachel very differently. Not so interested in the movie

I liked the movie but I don't like how Hollywood things we can't follow a story in a linear format. The movie kept going back and forth in time. I liked how they allowed Emily Blunt to keep her British accent for the movie. Don't know why we needed to see all that nudity, is that another requirement for Hollywood movies? Anna's wig drove me crazy, if you don't want to dye your hair blonde for a part, cast someone who is blonde.

It is a trend in fiction that I find really annoying TBH.

I probably won't go and see the movie since it hasn't got very good reviews here. Haven't read the book yet so might do that instead.

What do you think? Hard to say. I guess it depends on what you allow for your teens. There is a lot of swearing, some violence, and nudity. In regards to the swearing, it is nothing they don't hear at school. I thought the movie did a decent job of staying true to the book, however it has been a couple years since I read it. In fact, I had forgotten the ending.

There is also a fair amount of violence in there.

What do you think? I would say it would depend on your parenting beliefs ... I would be fine with it for my older teen because I don't think that some simulated sex scenes and a bit of blood is necessarily a bad thing ... but I'm quite lenient ... I definitely don't have a problem with teens seeing bums There is definitely sexual content so it's not appropriate for young teens

We saw Blair Witch instead.

I liked the book. DH and I saw the movie today. Neither one of us really cared for it. I thought it was boring. I was also amazed at the clutter in every single one of the homes. I kept wondering "who dusts all this shit?"

I went to see it yesterday and enjoyed it. I've read the book but fortunately I'm useless at remembering the plots of what I've read, so I was still able to appreciate the twists.
