You will hopefully see from the latest announcement that I've added a Welcome section to the board, and one thing I want to include is a general thread along the lines of who we are, where we come from, why we're here, why we're called Peas, what this board is all about - you get the gist. I could try write something myself, but I'm not feeling very creative today, so I thought I'd throw it over to you all to have a go and help me out Bearing in mind this will be one of the first things a new member would see, does anyone fancy giving it a shot? (TOU type stuff will be covered separately) I don't mind if someone wants to write a whole blurb, or just contribute a sentence or two. Post here in this thread or PM me, which ever you prefer.

Love the changes. Thanks for the new themes. LOVE the green!!! Sorry. No help on the blurb. I'm not good at that kind of stuff.

Can I make a small request here regarding the new green theme (which I really like)? Would it be possible to have a darker font in the green posts, rather than the white? I think the white on the darker background is difficult to read. Although it may well be just me, and if that's the case, then I rescind my request.

Wait, what? Green theme? Mine is still blue? And I'm really, really sorry if this isn't proper thread to post this in, but I'm paying $2.99 a month for ad free and today I'm seeing ads! I went to every customer support link I could find on pro boards and couldn't find a solution or a way to contact them to answer my specific question. It shows my current subscription paid and up to date. PodMother, is there a way to contact them or do you know why I'm getting ads now? Maybe something to do with why my colors are still blue? No big deal, you have enough on your plate, and the changes you've made with all the new member threads and smilies are pretty awesome! Thank you, thank you for all you do. OH DUH! I found you can change colors in settings. Slaps forehead. I likey the teal!

I'm not much of a writer but I will give it a shot...maybe you can use some of it.
Welcome to the 2Peas Refugess ProBoard.
In 1999, a scrapbook website was created called twopeasinabucket.com. It was a place for people who liked to scrapbook. It was a store, people could share their scrapbook pages (known as layouts) and there was also a wonderful forum, where people could discuss scrapbook ideas, ask questions and meet other scrapbookers. There was also a place for photographers, stampers, and even those that were just curious about scrapbooking but liked to discuss non-scrapbook related (NSBR) items.
We became part of a community and referred to ourselves as "peas".
Sadly, on June 25, 2014, without any warning, twopeasinabucket announced they would be closing their store and shutting down their website. The forums were shut down that very day. It was a sad day in scrapbook history. We were no longer "peas" but became "refupeas"
Fortunately, a fast-thinking refupea started a facebook group, where we could meet and try to decide what we were going to do and how we'd keep our community going. As a result, something wonderful was created and 2Peas Refugees was born !
We want to welcome you to 2Peas Refugees ProBoards Forums. We are so glad you found us - please sign up and join in the fun!

I don't know about the ad-free, but now you mention it I can't see your PB+ badge on your avatar any more and I remember it being there in the past. Did you definitely sign up for recurring rather than one month only? Try posting in the Support board, they are pretty quick at responding in my experience so far.

Oh, admin, I just noticed a couple of things and I don't know if it's something that can be fixed. I changed my theme to the green...I tried tagging someone in a post just now and it didn't take. It may just be how her name is done, not sure. I also noticed that in posts where there is a link, the link text is now the same color as the rest of the post, so it's hard to tell there is a link embedded. I wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't seen the link before I changed my theme. Thanks again for all you do!

I think our story needs to be told in Epic fashion. You know...
Long long ago, Two Peas in a bucket was established as an oasis in the desert of internet. It had something for everyone and people came from all over the world to enjoy the atmosphere and post their layouts. These were our people. We talked about scrapbooking and about our families. We supported each other and ordered scrapping supplies. We pulled on our big girl panties and kitten heels and waded into controversial threads. Time passed and as it did, we grew and changed and became a tribe unto ourselves. The tribe of the peas.
In the year 2014, our tribe, was cast out of our home. Two Peas in a Bucket was no more. Our message boards were gone. Our store was gone. Our gallery was gone. Our tribe was scattered by the winds of change. As each pea discovered the tragic loss, panic rose in our hearts. Each of us, alone at our keyboards, felt the loss of something we had come to count on.
In the face of such a loss, there were those who rose up from among us...
Etc. It's getting late and I can't write anymore now but you get the idea.

Love this! Does anyone remember what the 2 peas in a bucket reference was from? I remember reading about why the owners chose that, but have since forgotten since it was pretty uh, not memorable.
The end could be something like,
alas, one lone pea, a refugee, sought to save us. Her quick thinking and dedication led her to create a new home for us. She led us to safety, and as a beacon of light in a tumultuous storm, we made our way to our new home. We were now refupeas, but still peas nonetheless. Tragically, we may have lost some peas in the exodus, but still we have hope that one day we will all be united.

Might be worth mentioning that moderation is done with only the lightest of touches, and that sometimes forthright opinions are expressed. Might also be worth saying that the forum is very international in flavour and that all are welcome, no need to be a scrapbooker.

While I understand the history is important, I think there's a better chance of attracting new members if you don't lead with all the shared history. Describe the place first, and then each sub-forum (with examples) before describing most of the history/chronology. I like the recommendation on discussion philosophy that BeckyTech quoted.I also heartily agree with the suggestions to make it abundantly clear that interest in scrapbooking is not integral to the NSBR sub-forum, and that we value our international flavor flavour.

I really like both creative versions! And, I agree that the points in the Admin's paragraph quoted by Becky above are essential. In fact, that paragraph would also read really well with each sentence as a bullet point. I might edit a bit for new eyes, so they don't see words like "Controversial" "snarky" and "hurt" in the first post and run... I wonder if the first post could start off very basic, include those bullet points, then go on to say (maybe in post [HASH]2?)... "When I asked our fellow Refupeas to describe who we are and how we came to be, here is what some of the said..." A possible introduction: Welcome, one and all, to the new home of the 2Peas Refugees! The Forums here were formerly hosted by an online retailer that served the scrapbooking industry. Unfortunately, that retailer, known as "Two Peas In A Bucket," closed it's virtual doors in July 2014. Here at 2Peas Refugees, old Peas and new ones alike can carry on sharing ideas, seeking advice and support, and reaping the personal and creative inspiration each Pea brings to our community. Although the hobby of scrapbooking brought the Peas together and is still a great love for many members, there is plenty of non-scrapbooking-related content to engage members with any interest you can dream up! We Peas seek to learn and grow with each other, and in doing so, we bring both our most light-hearted as well as our most challenging subjects to the table for discussion. Some topics are deeply intense in nature, whether it's a Pea's personal story, or a social issue that strikes powerful chords. The Peas are a passionate group, and it helps us to remain a respectful, close-knit community to keep these no-nonsense guidelines at heart: -Respond to any thread as if you are engaging in a face-to-face conversation with other adults. -If a thread upsets/annoys/bores you, feel free to skip over it without responding. -If you think there should be more light-hearted conversations than intense discussions, post one. -If you think the light-hearted posts don't get enough replies, encourage them by replying to them. -If you've had enough of any conversation, step out of it. -If an individual's posts continually stir negative feelings for you, use the block function. -If you ask a question, be prepared to listen to any answer, even if it's not the one you were hoping for. -Be open to hearing other opinions, on 2Peas you will encounter and learn from all sides. -Be able to see that even the most controversial discussion has plenty of value to offer if you are willing to look for it, rather than allow disagreement or even hurt cloud the open mind. -Realize that "the board" isn't any one thing, it is a collection of individuals of all ages and walks of life, from all over the world, who each act in their own way... and that's a beautiful thing! -It is what we make it, and there's room for everyone!
