There are few things that squick me out more than the rug around the toilet. I don't know why, but I think it's the grossest. How do you you keep it clean, especially if a man uses that toilet like, EVER? Whenever I see one, I just think of it as a little petri dish for your bathroom. AHHHH! So, are you pro-RATT or anti-RATT (Rug Around The Toilet)?

Can't see anything good about them. Unhygienic and they look very dated to me....the only people I've known to have them were elderly relatives.

Anti. But we always had them in my house growing up. My parents master bathroom even had carpet in it for a lot of years (shudder).

I used them many years ago in my home but wouldn't think of using them now. With two men and one 5 year old boy in our home, it is a constant battle to keep the area around the toilets clean. It's a good thing I love those 3 so much.

In a civilized society, this question should never even arise.

We have one in our master bath. My DH is a sitter, it gets washed every week... Doesn't bother me a bit.
I'm not even close to elderly either.

Anything carpety should be banned from bathrooms, though in the interest of full disclosure, I've just washed my mum's RATT and toilet hat this morning

We always had them when I was a kid but we didn't worry about germs so much then. Now I wouldn't use one ever.

We have a rug in our bathroom that is for the shower. It is fairly close to the toilet, but not TOO close. Toilet rugs as well as carpet in a bathroom are disgusting!!!!!!!!

Is this a US thing? I need some overseas Refupeas to weigh in on the global RATT situation.

(quietly reconsidering my little potty rug that keeps my tootsies from having to rest on cold tile while tinkling. no boys in my bathroom though, and it gets cleaned regularly.)

Anti-RATT all the way!
And heck, when my parents first bought their house, the bathroom had wall to wall carpeting in it. Could you imagine how nasty that was?! I'm pretty sure it was the first thing to go.

You know they advise people not to keep their uncovered toothbrushes anywhere near the toilet due to airborne particles that can fly all over when the toilet is flushed. So why in the name of all that's holy would you want super-absorbent fluffy material down on the floor under the toilet where it most certainly will catch every bit of that? Removable toilet rugs are bad enough. If you have installed carpet in your bathroom, I can't even be your friend.

I didn't vote, because I fall somewhere in the middle. I grew up in a house full of girls, so the peeing on the floor wasn't really an issue. When I got married in '91, I didn't like the tile in our apartment's bathroom, so I went to Rickel & bought a piece of rug probably especially made for bathrooms - you could easily cut it & it was washable. Again, w/only a husband I didn't notice anything.
When we moved into our house, I couldn't find the carpet I'd had so I had to let it go. Now that I have 2 boys, I think it was a sign from God, lol.

I can see using one if you have carpeting in the restroom.
