I was taught to do it after every load. I remain surprised at those who don't clean it on a regular basis.

I pull it out and check it almost every load but it doesn't have anything on it usually until after I do towels. I probably only clean mine 2 times a week because there isn't anything on it to clean sometimes.

After every load. If I don't, a buzzer comes on when I try to use it. I don't need the buzzer since I am in the habit and have been since I was first taught to do laundry by my mom. If you don't, you're wasting money.

When I put a new load in. Why not when I take the finished load out? I have no freaking clue.

Every load for me, too, even if for most loads there is little to clean out.
DH never cleans it out and I know when I've done laundry at MIL's the lint in the filter is so solid it is like pulling out a thick piece of felt.

After every load. Every.time. ETA: I was always amazed when I'd use a laundromat or the W/D in an apartment complex and you could use the amount of lint in the filter as a small blanket. Talk about inefficient!

I'll typically check it after every couple loads, because, well, 6 pets (enough said), but also because I kind of know how much builds up on it, and how quickly it does so.
But I don't understand why someone would never check it- that's a fire hazard!
eta: I also have a tendency to forget a Kleenex in my pocket, too, so there's also that- lol! (usually those shred apart in the wash, not the dryer, though...)

When I put a new load in. Why not when I take the finished load out? I have no freaking clue. I know... I know! Well, at least I know why I do. Or did. Let me explain. I used to clean the filter when I put a new load in as to me it was part of the process of setting the controls and starting it. But that filter was on the top of the dryer near the controls. On my latest dryer, the lint trap is in the bottom of the rim so you'd have to pull the clean, dry clothes out over the lint... and risk it sticking to them. So now I clean the lint filter immediately after a load is finished before I remove the clothes.

Every load. My girls are always shocked that the other students at school don't do it. They always find the lint traps full. At least they get emptied when my girls do their laundry.

Every load. The amount of lint and dog fur that comes off our clothes is staggering. Oddly, our towels have the least amount of lint.

Typically, every 2-3 loads except when washing sheets/blankets and towels. I clean it after every load of bedding and towels. Those seem to be lint and animal hair magnets.

I empty it after every load. DH empties it BEFORE he puts a load in. It's annoying because if he did laundry before me I have to remember to empty the lint trap. Minor pet peeve....

after every load. If you leave it too long the clothes don't seem to dry as fast.
