What do you use yours for? We have had our for a few months now and I have figured out two things. It is an expensive timer for the kitchen and it does not answer to Siri, no matter how many times you try. There have been times that she butted in when she was asked to. I think that she gets lonely. LOL. Do you have any advice on any great things to do with Alexia?

From your post, I am going to extrapolate that I am not missing out not buying one as I cannot purchase one in my country. I have a timer on my phone and computer, the stove "computer" doesn't work so the timer times but it doesn't chime. The microwave has a timer function on it and it works just fine. I believe we are good for timers. If that is all you can use yours for, I doubt I am going to use one for much more than that. Maybe you can stream music but we don't get Pandora in Canada so that's another X.
Thank you. You are saving me money!

A few things they use it for is to turn on and off lights, play music/request songs , and get answers for types of questions that they would usually google. My nephew makes her fart. And when they talk about her, she is know as "A" so they don't wake her up. Sorry, another thread that I really have no useful answers for but for some reason feel compelled to post on.

We stream our Pandora through it, check the weather, ask various questions, use the shopping list feature and the timer mostly. We bought it for the music and it has great sound.

We use ours for these same things. She can also do audiobooks from your kindle or Prime account. We are thinking about getting my MIL one for Christmas; so she can listen to audiobooks.

We have those other methods of timers too, but it is so much easier to do it by voice. I am sure that there is a lot that you can do with it, we just haven't taken the time to figure it out yet. That is why I am asking.

We love ours! We ask her trivia questions all the time. She's always on hand while we watch movies and want to know something. It can be silly things like how tall an actor is to facts about a true story being shown.
She's great with homework questions, recipe help, games and of course music, weather and traffic for my daily commute. Gosh, so much more than I can list actually.
She's the "know it all" in our family. 😀

We actually have three (embarrassed grin) and I love them. I listen to my audiobook, check the weather, she plays my rain and thunderstorm for me every night as I go to bed, I have playlists so I can listen to any kind of music I'm in the mood for, she's a great timer, she's a fabulous alarm clock (unless the Internet goes out during the night-then it can get a bit dicey counting on her for an alarm), she's a wealth of knowledge, etc. etc. One of the best purchases I've made in a long time.

But seriously, can you rename her? I have a niece named Alexis--I don't know now Alexa would cope in their house.

She can be renamed "Amazon."
The only choices are Alexa and Amazon.

I'm curious about them, but DH is convinced that they spy on you, so he doesn't want one in the house.

My husband and my ds use theirs as alarm clocks. I love that I can set ds' alarm from my iPad, and then change it to playing music when he's not getting up to the alarm.
My husband also uses it to play white noise at night while sleeping.

We have 2, the Echo and the Dot. We use them for timers, turn on/off lights, play music, DH plays Jeopardy with her, fact finding and the kids still think it is hilarious to have her tell them jokes.
DD and I want them to make a waterproof one for the shower!
Oh, and DS's name is Alex. She only answers for him occasionally!

We mostly use ours to play Amazon Prime music, re-order things we order frequently like dog food and treats and cat litter, and to set timers/alarms.

I may need 1, or 2, or......
I know you can make shopping lists with her, but can you also make to-do lists? Like, "Alexa, add vacuum room to Johnny's chore list". One of our biggest arguments around here is that someone will mention a task that someone else needs to do but it never gets written down and is immediately forgotten. If we could count on Alexa to write it down.......

I love my Echo and my Dot. I ask her questions while I'm watching tv, like how old is someone is or a definition of something. I've got my phone and Siri, but Alexa is so much easier. I ask her what the weather is, I play music, Amazon Prime music library is awesome. I just got my Dot, she's in my bedroom, I ask her to play Adele while I'm putting on my makeup. She plays nature sounds to help me go to sleep, she tells me what time it is while I'm getting ready instead of having to look at clock. I don't use her as much as I could though. I'll have to try some of your suggestions.
l love her.

I love my Echo, I've had it since the beginning. I primarily use it for my shopping lists. I cannot express to anyone how lovely it is to be cooking and without missing a beat be able to add something to the grocery list.
I don't use it much for music as I have speakers that I run from my phone throughout the house, but when I do...it's up to the task. The timer is great, though I wish it was a little louder.
I also use it for random info, weather, football scores, what's going on in the world, etc.
My biggest gripe is that there is only one shopping list and one to-do list. I use the to-do list for "other" shopping (drugstore, Costco, etc). I wish (and expected) they would come up with 4-6 different lists.

A really useful function for us, not mentioned yet, is traffic and estimated times to destinations -- a huge big deal in the Seattle area when you have important appointments, but traffic variables can make it hard to know when to leave. My son uses it daily to time his commute to school.
I love the audio books and music playlists. I've heard there is an ap to track if the dog's been fed-- haven't used it, but probably should.

They both do the same thing, the dot is just a lot smaller and speakers not as good. However, you can hook it up to speakers if you want better sound. For me, listening in my bedroom, the sound is fine. It's great as a alarm, reading audible books in bed, sleep music...best part, it's only $49!!

I move mine too. Shopping lists, to do lists and, most importantly, I can't get my beloved NPR station, WNYC, on FM radio in my town and I can listen to it all day on Alexa.

The Echo can read your Kindle books out loud in Alexa's usual voice. It automatically knows what books you've bought through Amazon, and where you left off reading it last on your Kindle or smartphone. If Alexa's robotic monotone is distracting for long tomes, you can try listening to a real audiobook instead. When you're done, don't forget to tell Alexa "Goodnight."
Enable the 7 Minute Workout skill, turn it on and ask Alexa to boss you around like a personal trainer for, you guessed it, 7 minutes.
Enable the Magic Door skill then tell Alexa to open the Magic Door - you could spend a long time doing this - it is an interactive story - Alexa takes you through a story and gives you choices and based on what you select, the story changes - fun!

I have the echo and the dot and love them both for the reasons above. I do however have a question. The dot is in my bedroom, I've figured out how to set the alarm to wake me up and it works well....but the alarm also goes off on the echo in the kitchen. Is there a way to only have the dot alarm?
