Hey everyone! I was up super early this morning ... as usual ... the older I get, the harder it is to sleep in Dh and I are supposed to go to a local brewery for dinner and a tour ... we've been there before and it has been a lot of fun ... less fun for me because I no longer drink so I'm the DD I don't know if you saw my post on the board awhile ago about buying a new car ... a BMW ... well, dh has been hogging it so I've been driving the truck ... anyway, we are taking the car tonight so I need to practice driving it this afternoon so that I don't look like a total dork in front of our friends I'll pick up Subway for the dd's ... dd#1 has to work but she can eat before or after her shift ... What's on your menu?

DH is finally home from Sweden - thanks Lufthansa - and he is cooking dinner as he does every Saturday. We are having roast chicken, with potatoes, sweet potatoes and something green. Football again tonight - hoping for a better result then the midweek travesty.

What's on your menu? I find the colder it is, the easier it is to sleep in. On weekdays I'm up at 7:15 but today I slept til 8:00. I was just dozing and staying under the down comforter. It's cold and raining here so I'm either going to have gumbo or, if I venture out, I'll make turkey divan. ETA: It stopped raining so I ran to Raley's. Divan it is!

I need my alone time with my tea before I face humans On the weekends I usually make it until 6 am ... it sucks because it makes it difficult to stay up late

We are done with Turkey. We are usually good for thanksgiving plus one more meal and we are all set. Tonight we are going to have the honey baked ham I picked up with the turkey. I will go all out and make a box of Cracker Barrel macaroni and cheese, which is actually really good. Probably peas for ds and I don't know what for dh and I. Tomorrow, I will make bean soup with the ham bone. (It was only a quarter ham, so don't think we are eating a whole pig tonight!)

We're also having turkey soup! It's our tradition for the Saturday after Thanksgiving - put up the tree, then enjoy some soup.

Salmon...again...today served on "lefse" with a green salad. I'm a big believer in using leftovers, and now the fridge is (almost) empty of leftovers. I think there are some potatoes in there somewhere, but they will probably be used for breakfast tomorrow since I found some bacon in the freezer.

We're going to church and then out with BIL and SIL. I think our college niece will go as well. I'm not sure what I'll have. We just had hot open faced turkey sandwiches for lunch.
I'm going to take a nap because I've been up since 4:00. I get up at 3:30 on work days and never manage to sleep past 6:00 no matter how late I stay up or how tired I am. I just took Advil for my joint pain and hope I wake up feeling better.

Tonight is the rehearsal dinner for DS's wedding. I'm hosting but it won't run into too much money because they're having the rehearsal itself (it's raining here, for once) plus dinner in the back room at the local pizza joint. We are a high-class bunch. If it's still raining tomorrow, they're going to have to figure out something different for the ceremony. I had Thanksgiving dinner at my brother's house, so I don't have any leftover turkey, but he did give me a turkey carcass so I need to get my stockpot going today, too. And I have a turkey breast in my freezer, so I'm going to pick up some wings and try the make-ahead gravy recipe from the other thread. One of these days.

lucyg, Mazel Tov to your son and his new wife. KelleeM , I'm sorry that you're hurting. Hoping you feel comfortable right away. Well, it's a day ending in Y. I'm having a recurrence of my stupid issue from 3 weeks ago. I'm gonna go get some fluids later today or tmw am and then I'll likely have a tube change at the beginning of the week. I'm waiting for some lab results that won't be back until tmw in order to see if I need IV antibiotics. So, tonight dh is in charge of dinner and I'm guessing they'll do leftover pizza. I can't sip water right now. So, meals are the last thing on my mind. On the upside, dh and I are watching fun movies on tv. We watched Ferris Beuhler and now it's Clueless. Dh is relaxing a bit after working non-stop for almost 2 months. Nice way to spend a day that is really uncomfortable. Have a delightful weekend everyone.

Thanks scrapmaven. I need to learn how to live with this. In the bigger scheme of things I really shouldn't even think about complaining. I hope you're better soon. I'm so sorry you have to deal with all of this.

lucyg Good luck and best wishes during the wedding festivities. miominmio, my MIL's family is from Norway. We have lefse every Christmas. My DH is a pretty accomplished lefse maker and I'm already looking forward to it. DH and I had our own little mini Thanksgiving today. I did a turkey breast, dressing, mashed potatoes and broccoli. We ate about 2:00, so I guess we'll just do some light grazing this evening. Still a lot of football to watch.

We went to watch a rugby International match this evening Wales-v-South Africa. Wales won so we treated our selves to chicken curry off the bone and chips (fries) on the way home. We're a classy pair as well.

We had tacos, made with Penzey's taco seasoning (half regular, half bold), but to change it up a bit, I did the tacos, I guess you could say, double decker? Soft shell, spread with warmed refried beans, wrapped around the crunchy shell, then filled as usual.
A few months ago, we bought some of those little racks to hold tacos upright on your plate, and with the soft shell and beans holding things together, these were the tidiest tacos I have ever eaten. DH was skeptical, but turns out he loved them, because he suffers from exploding hard shell taco syndrome. And with the addition of the beans and the double shell, the tacos were more filling than usual, so the 1 pound of taco meat will stretch to a whole additional meal for us tomorrow, so economical too.

I had Fish & Chips - a piece of flake, potato cake, fried dim sim and chips to be precise. I have been doing the 5:2 diet for 8 weeks now and even on the days when I am not fasting I have been trying to be good (except for the odd dinner out every now and then), so I haven't had fish & chips for 8 weeks. It's been killing me! I enjoyed all that fat and those calories immensely thankyouverymuch.

_, sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Sending big hugs your way. Thank you so much. This isn't a big deal, just a normal part of an abnormal process. Still stinks. I am sorry you are having such a time of it lately. My friend was over helping me pack today-more like she was acting as moral support while I had a mild freak out about this moving thing. The buyers are being weird about the inspection and want me to do a whole long list of things that don't really fit into the definition of 'as is.' So my friend was doing what friends do and was totally on my side saying just the right things (like 'want me to kick them in their shins? or 'that's ridiculous.' etc.) She also showed up with snacks (probably more out of self preservation-she knows that when I get stressed I don't eat, so she brought stuff, fixed it and handed it to me and said 'eat this or else. ) One thing she brought was one of those cheese and herb mixes to put on crackers. She pretended to collect everything before leaving but actually left a few things-including the cheese. Not sure if this will work or not, but I am going to mix it in with some pasta/chicken/peas and see what happens. I like the stuff, I like pasta, I like chicken, I like peas. How bad can it be to mix them together?

Feel better quick, scrapmaven. You too, KelleeM! No one's allowed to be sick over the holidays!! We're giving leftovers one more go 'round and then that's it... for this week! I think we'll have turkey breast heated up in gravy, potato cakes, rutabaga, and corn casserole. And the green stuff (Watergate salad) for dessert.

The make ahead gravy was awesome and darn lucky I did it too as I used one of those throw away roasting pans and poked a hole thru it while carving and lost all my juices all in a huge mess all over the stove. I was so sad I wanted to freeze it for a later turkey breadt dinner.
