I'm going in for a hysterectomy this morning. I have severe anemia which is triggering/has caused sciatic nerve pain, high blood pressure, a heart murmur, weakness, leg and muscle cramps, and extreme fatigue. My periods are like a crime scene (tmi). I'm 42, and it's time to have it done, and I'm not worrying too much. Hoping to get my health back on track now. How many peas have gone through this? Glad you had it done? Did it change your health issues? I hope so!
So please wish me luck! Thank you!

I can relate and you will be surprised on how much better you are going to feel after your recovery. It has been 7 years, I was 36 for mine. So many things went away that I was not aware of that I had! Good luck and good healing thoughts and prayers on a quick recovery. Take it slow! Major surgery, take your time healing.
ETA: Yes, I am so happy to have had mine. Best decision ever! And not to worry about periods? Oh, my. Greatest thing ever (I had your crime scene ones, too). Always had to plan around my period. The freedom of this in itself is enough to make you feel better. LOL

I had hysterectomy ( pelvic clearance )due to cancer and although it took a full 2 months to feel 'normal' it's well worth it for your issues . So many people I know feel they had no idea how rough they had been feeling for ages until they recovered from the surgery - and remembered how well they 'could ' feel.

I hope your surgery has gone really well and that you'll have a great recovery and more importantly, no more anemia!

I hope everything went well today, and that you heal quickly and easily. I had mine five years ago, and it improved the quality of my life so much.

I did, for fibroids. Terrible anemia and had to receive some transfusions before they could operate. Mine was abdominal because of the size of the fibroids, but I hope yours can be laparoscopic to make it a little easier. You are going to LOVE not having your period...good luck!

I had mine 5 years ago for fibroids and I regret nothing! It was the best thing ever. No more crime scenes, pain, anemia, etc. It took me the full six weeks to feel recovered and like myself, so don't push yourself too soon.
Hope all goes well!

I will definitely wish you luck and a speedy recovery! I'm having surgery today too- but I am having an ablation and a mirena put in. If it doesn't work my next step will be a hysterectomy. I haven't been under anaesthetic for over 25 yrs so I am a little bit nervous, but am sure I will be fine. Keeping my fingers crossed all my problems will be solved. Good luck! Corinne

Best decision I EVER made! Best thing ever! Seriously...lol. Those who have had one will understand, and those who haven't can just shake their heads at our enthusiasm. I'm assuming you're done with the surgery now. Hope it went well. After a few days you'll feel better. Be sure to take those pain pills on schedule so you can "stay ahead" of the pain. And follow the doctor's orders about how long you need to take to recover, even if you feel better. I felt great pretty quickly but my doctor said six weeks. And she said that in her opinion most complications that occur after surgery are the result of the patient not following orders and trying to do too much too soon. Sounded like a good reason to me not to do any housework. "I'm sorry dear, I couldn't possibly carry that laundry downstairs, the doctor said so." or "No I can't go grocery shopping and carry ten tons of groceries into the house, the doctor said so." or "Vacuuming?? Oh no, the doctor said nothing like that." hehehehe

I had one last June due to a prolapse . My ovaries were left so I still have those hormones running through my body. I am so glad that I had it done .i feel like a weight was lifted from my bladder. Hope it went smoothly and you have plenty of time to recover.
