Biblically qualified? Oh, please, keep your bible out of our politics. The bible has no place in government. The guy's a loon.

Well, I don't think Trump is qualified either but if every politician has to pass some sort of Biblical test, we will never fill the Presidency.

I read this earlier and wanted to be happy that a Texas elector had actually backed down from voting for Trump ... but apparently the guy's a nutjob. Next!

I guess we should be glad he resigned, but clearly he doesn't understand the concept of separation of church and state.

How does one become an elector, exactly?

He resigned, but he's going to be replaced with another elector who WILL vote for Trump.

How does one become an elector, exactly? They are chosen by the state parties. Each state has a set of Republican electors and a set of Democrat electors. Therefore, the electors are either high level people in the party or long term supporters. This is why there is so few defections when it comes to voting. When a candidate wins a state, his party's electors are the ones chosen to vote in December.

You would think with the depth of the Republican bench in Texas, they could filter out the crazy a little more effectively.

Uh, if he's voting based on his bible, I have to say I'm happy he stepped down. I wish people would keep their religious convictions out of politics.
And also, I have to wonder if Hillary had won, if he would also feel compelled to step down? I feel like the answer would be yes.

If he'd left out the word biblical and just resigned because he couldn't vote against his conscience we'd all be singing his praises

I guess we should be glad he resigned, but clearly he doesn't understand the concept of separation of church and state. not part of our constitution. That's okay, nothing for you to worry about. The Supreme Court has read between the lines and long since established the constitutionality of Jefferson's "wall of separation."

I do not see how Donald Trump is biblically qualified to serve in the office of the Presidency. Who is? Just to clarify, "I do not see how Donald Trump is biblically qualified to serve in the office of the Presidency" is a quote from Art Sisneros, the Elector who resigned. And I agree with you Leftie.

I will admit that I don't know the rules of the electoral college (are they legally bound to vote according to the popular vote or is it like primary delegates?)... So this may be a moot point. Religious issues aside, I don't think that what he is doing is all that admirable since he basically said (or how I interpret it) that he couldn't/wouldn't do it and would step aside and let someone do the thing he thinks is so wrong. So basically he is going to save his own soul and jump into the life boat while everyone else goes down with the ship.

As I've said, I'm glad he stepped aside. However, I can't help but wonder why he waited so long to do so. He's known for months and months that Trump was the Republican candidate.

Well I'm sure there are perks to being an elector and if he dropped out before he was sure he had such a dilemma perhaps they'd never allow hm to be one again? I mean if Hillary won he'd have no issue and no one would have ever known and next time he would still be able to be an elector? I don't know I'm just guessing

Biblically qualified? Oh, please, keep your bible out of our politics. The bible has no place in government. The guy's a loon. the Bible plays a huge part in the making of our government. Like the part about clothing of two or more fibers being illegal? Or the part about shellfish eating being illegal? Or maybe coveting being illegal? Or perhaps not taking the name of the Lord being illegal? Oh, silly me, non of those play a large part in most jurisdictions' laws. What IS in our laws, are what are common in almost ALL MORAL CODES: don't kill each other, don't steal from each other, don't swindle each other, etc.

I don't think it's that interesting because I know a lot of Mormons who would not vote for Trump and this is one of the main reasons. What surprised me is he's from Texas, a Christian, Republican, and even he can't vote for Trump.
