Oh yeah lol i know a teacher that does this all the time...she supplies her granddaughter her stuff yearly like this. I remember helping her pack up one year before summer let out and she had a ton of tissue boxes and other stuff...she was like "of course I take this stuff home!" This is crazy. I work in HS but at a preK-12 school. At the high school level a teacher may request a binder or folder but there isn't a supply list. I'm not sure what happens at the younger grades but I do know the school supplies tissues and copy paper. Ive vet read here before of teachers who take the stuff home at the end of the year. That's just wrong! lisa D.

I can't imagine why she thinks it okay to do that, and why she had no qualms about admitting it to you

She should be ashamed of taking advantage of her students and their parents. I'd tell everyone what she said and if someone she works with hears about it, so be it.

That kind of remark bugs me to no end.. .but I guess I don't have a problem with teachers keeping anything extra at the end of the year for however they want to use the supplies. I figure that is my donation. But just to say that is wrong.

I can't believe she said that. She must have a brass set of ovaries.
We spend so much money on school supplies, communal supplies, not just pencils and such but white board markers and hand santizer and cleaning wipes and on and on. I gripe and do it because of the kids, I know not every parent will or can contribute what they're asked to. I would think A LOT less of her. I also don't believe that most teachers are like her, thank goodness.

Just like the bride not inviting people to the wedding after sucking them for a shower gift - it's bad enough that it's wrong, but to admit it? WTH is wrong w/some people?!!

There's a bad apple in every basket. Please don't let her represent all teachers bc I promise you not all of us sink to that level.

Wow. I'm a teacher and I can assure you that no one I know would ever think that was an okay thing to do. In fact, I do pretty much the complete opposite--I buy tons and tons of school supplies for my students because many of them show up on the first day of class empty-handed. I can't even tell you how many kids I've had in class that lack even a pencil or notebook on the first day of attendance.
The constant need for more school supplies has a way of turning even the mildest teachers into ruthless scavengers. In fact, we have a running joke at my school that teachers are like vultures. If a teacher in the building retires or resigns, all the rest of us attack the recently vacated classroom in search of anything and everything useful that we can add to our classroom supply stashes. A simple package of forgotten pencils is enought to start a riot if more than one teacher tries to claim them.
