So what are your hits and misses this year? Here ODS seems pleased with his laptop (the big gift) and bluetooth light bulbs. He also liked his sushi making kit I put together for him. The iphone camera accessories (remote/tripod and something else) kinda got a "huh?" look but it was less than $10 and I knew it was iffy. YDS was excited at the Lego Dimensions game and the gazillion other legos he got. So far he's opened almost every box of them but has yet to finish of them, they're spread across 3 rooms and driving me a bit batty right now. The microscope that was his "most wished for" item barely got a 2nd glance, I'm not surprised, glad I opted for the $25 model. Oh wait, he's pulled it out now...... From BIL/SIL he got Qixels 3D.......I really want to know if I've upset them somehow I told dh next year their kids are getting drum sets. Ds likes them, but these stupid little blocks are a pain in my ass and he can't do it without help. I hope by the end of break he's used up all the refills and we can make it disappear until it's been forgotten about. Dh seemed pleased with the stuff I got him, it was all from his list so he should I requested that he buy me new clothes since he doesn't always appreciate my (lack of) fashion sense and I've lost weight and need new clothes. Most of what he and the boys picked out is fine, I may return the FairIsle sweater only because it seems like something I'd only wear during December, so I may get a different color/print instead. What about you?

Well, I did good with DS19 and his BFF that lives with us (we've tried very hard to treat him as if he's our own. I think that means more to him after the life he's had than anything I could have wrapped). They love the toys I picked for them and all their clothes. Only one miss with Ds and it was just a shirt. His favorite was a telescope that you attach your phone to and connects to an app that tells you what star/constellation/planet you're looking at. Fletcher the Corgi attached their drone in mid air and sent it into the pool after snatching it around where it promptly sank to the bottom before they could get the pool net off the fence. I'm glad it was a cheap TJ Maxx find(they loved it for about an hour before that happened) I 'missed' a lot on clothes for DD17. She's just not in a good place emotionally and we don't really 'get' each other right now, like we have for so long. I feel bad she wasn't happy and she feels bad bc she thinks it's her fault I feel bad. Sigh. We're trying. I think that I'm picking things she'd love, but she feels like I'm trying to buy what I THINK she should wear, not what she really wants. Did I say we're trying? Sigh. She did, however, LOVE the Feisty Pet unicorn. Thanks a million to the Pea that suggested that little gem. It was by far her favorite gift! And I bough her a huge bag of candle making supplies because she's mentioned that she'd like to learn how to make them- that was a hit as well. another hit was the wanderer bracelets I had made with the lat/long coordinates to our house. I told them that no matter where they landed in life, they'd always be able to find their way home. They are all wearing them already and now they've all left to go to a nearby park with coloring books, eno hammocks, a boomerang that doesn't work worth a crap and a foam bow and arrow set lol. I should have gotten an aussie pea to send me a REAL boomerang! Merry Christmas all!

All hits here. DH loved all his gifts from the kids and I and the last minute portable charger was by far his favourite.
DS apparently did not find all of his gifts when he snooped. He cried when he opened his timberlands. He also had no idea we got him "real" moccasins.
DD loved everything and squee'd with delight at her baby alive doll Santa brought her.
I got some amazing gifts from DH. Although the only thing I wanted was a laptop, which he said we could go get later, he got me some really thoughtful gifts. One of which was the Fantastic Beasts suitcase book. OMG! It's amazing!

Oh - I forgot!
DD bought me a GREAT lightweight burgundy jacket that I LOVE. She specifically coordinated it to go with Ds's gift. DS learned how to knit somewhere in his college/work schedule without me ever seeing a ball of yarn and knitted me a beautiful scarf. His BFF bought me an AWESOME Harry Potty puzzle.
DS also made a handmade knife for DH (my dad is a custom knife maker and taught him) This was his first finished knife.
Love those babies!

We surprised the kids with a trip to NYC and Hamilton tickets. We're leaving tomorrow morning. They both cried. It was a happy Christmas morning here That would be my kids' dream gift. No really big ticket items this year, since (some of us) went to Paris for Thanksgiving. DH, who is not a great gift giver, knocked it out of the park this year. He somehow managed to score the Classic Mini NES for me by being in the right place at the right time (I'm forever griping that I can't play Mario on the stupid Xbox!) and got me a Notorious RBG shirt. DD got me matching RBG socks and a "Don't Stop Retreivin'" T-shirt with a golden retriever on the front. I got DH Chili Peppers tix, which is what he really wanted most of all, although we've got to travel a bit because I waited too long and our local show sold out. I got DD a limited edition print of graphic art from the HP movies from a gallery show that we stumbled on in Paris. She is HP obsessed and is studying graphic design, so this was perfect. I also found a signed book by her favorite comic book artist (in Paris of all places), and she was super excited about that. All three girls got Echo Dots, but only the twins seem very interested. They were super excited about their Christmas PJs--a fuzzy Pandicorn set and a Captain America onesie.

I forgot, the clothes I got were hits.
Dh got a cubs jersey and shirt (shirt from ds) Older Ds got a Giants hoodie and beanie and a shirt that says "that's too much bacon...said no one ever" Younger Ds got a cubs shirt, pjs, and both a Giants and a blues jersey.

I had some misses - DS1 did not like most of the clothes I got him from Penneys and he didn't like the Bass shoes I got for him. He is going to try on the clothes and see but I think they may be going back. Ugh. He had plenty of other gifts but I wish those had been at least not disliked. I liked everything I got. My younger son did a painting for me and frankly I think it was my best gift because he put himself into making it. View Attachment Wow, is that the painting in the photo? It is amazing and will give you a lifetime of happiness every time you walk by it. Also, you DS looks very handsome as well.

Right now, the laptop I got DH is a miss. No program to play DVDs comes with, it has trouble connecting to the internet and it has done nothing but updates since turning it on. Sigh, you'd think for $700 it would be useable right out of the box. Thank goodness our IT son is here to deal with it (even he's cussing away).

DH got the complete James Bond boxed set of movies that he wanted, DD was over the moon to get the roller skates, a much coveted Hatchimal and the Skylanders Imaginators game that were on her list (AND A PUPPY!!!!), and I was pretty stoked that DH actually shopped off a list and got me the Disney Castle Lego set that I really, really, REALLY wanted! Yeah, DH! The dog was kind of a weird unplanned thing. My BFF was fostering her for a terminally ill friend currently in the hospital and trying to find a new home for the dog for her. BFF knew we'd be a good fit. So while it really wasn't on my radar to do right now, I felt bad for BFF's friend and for the dog so we said we'd take her. She really is a little sweetheart too and DD just loves her.

My kids love their gifts, we were so excited to see them SO excited! Youngest DS loves to construct and create. We filled a crate with foam golf balls, PVC pipe and elbow joints, wood, clamps, carabiner clips, paracord, small metal buckets, nylon pulleys, dominoes, levers, wooden pegs, funnels, velcro etc, and he is in heaven building and constructing! (We got the idea from the science + life museum in Raleigh,NC. All our kids spent over 2 hours in their contraption room, and we had to tear them away. So we brought the contraption room to him for Christmas) As he opened his gift he knew exactly was it was, even though it was just pieces. All he could say was "Thank you SOOOOOOOO much!!!!! He also got some lego sets. Middle DS has a birthday in early February, and though we never do this, he has a joint Christmas/birthday gift this year. The LEGO Mindstorm robot is expensive and he really wanted it, so he is thrilled! He is geeking out constructing and programming this thing. oldest DD received shoes, clothes, scarves, a woolen jacket, and books. She is sitting on the couch in one of her new outfits, reading. She is one happy girl. Oh, and she also got some basic make up (aka, permission to wear said makeup), so is very happy to be experimenting

This is always one of my favorite threads.
My hit was small Nerf guns in my boys and DH's stockings. They've been shooting each other all day!
Another hit was the nail stamping plates DH got me. I've already done my nails. It's my first time trying stamping and they turned out cute.
Another hit was the Kindle Paperwhite for my DH. He has been using my old Kindle so I thought I would upgrade him. He was so surprised and excited!
We haven't had any misses yet.

Not really any missses. Hits for my teenage boy where the Yugioh Monopoly game, the Hug Your Cactus tshirt and I had bought a lot of Skylanders Giants of ebay to give him. He had played the game when it first came out about 4 years ago, but had sold them off after getting bored with them. This year though he mentioned that he wishes he still had some, so he was super happy. He's been playing since this morning.

Most everything was a hit, the Tornado maker has been running constantly all morning! I'm not sure about Lego dimensions as youngest is building regular Lego sets first. Laptop seems to be working except the drive wouldn't play a movie, and oldest is happily playing a new video game in his gaming chair. Pajamas and books aren't thrilling right now, but they'll get plenty of use and appreciation down the line. Unfortunately all the shirts/sweaters for husband are running too small. Not sure what my sister thinks about the Instant Pot, she seems intimidated! But she's in a bad mood anyway, so we shall see. I love my fancy painted special Christmas wine glass!

I think everyone loved the gifts they got here. I know I loved my gifts. My favorite gift is a gorgeous photo album of my daughter's wedding. It's got tons of photos and I tear up every time I look at it. The wedding was one of the biggest highlights of my life and definitely the best thing that happened in 2016.

All hits here.
DD's big gift from me was a cool wooden box filled with Harry Potter goodies. I found a gift card box that was covered in navy glitter and had a tag with an elk profile on it (like a patronus). Inside was a card good for a visit to Ollivander's the next time we go to Universal (we have one day left on the passes she got for her birthday). She was VERY surprised because I've been such a stinker about how much those wands cost. The upswing of it is that we live only 45 minutes away and I have friends that can get us in, so we'll be able to get more than one use out of the wand.
She also got the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, so we just got home a bit ago from seeing the movie (which we both loved).
The best gift of all--she slept until 7 am, which was a Christmas miracle considering 2 years ago when she was with me on Christmas Day she was up at 5.

Lego Millennium Falcon for dh was a major hit. He's pacing (& loving!) the building process. DD was super thrilled with both her Hamilton merch & Ravenclaw goodies, in fact with everything she got. DS seemed most pleased with his Slytherin hoodie & his wii/ds games. The kids bought each other & us really nice gifts too & dh bought random gifts as jokes (mermaid tail blanket for dd, RAC flying dragon for ds & a bra keeper for me - I got him a wall climbing car to keep with the random fun) which were great fun. I was spoiled even though dh kept saying he'd had a nightmare shopping for me including new tall boots, a spinner ring & lampshades (I know, random but I LOVE them!). No misses between us but my mum is going through a "difficult" phase right now, she complained that she hadn't bought us much (we didn't complain & know that they don't get out much anymore), she complained that they got a lot of food type gifts (they're 85 & 89, it's pretty hard to know what to get them) & then when my dad gave her some money as a gift she said she was REALLY disappointed that it wasn't the one gift she'd really wanted which was apparently a photo that she hadn't ever mentioned wanting, so that was lovely. She also claimed not to know what time lunch was & then when she was told it would be within the next half hour, proceeded to make coffee & eat biscuits, then expressed further surprise when she saw me carve the turkey 25 minutes later. (She's not senile, just difficult at the moment) Despite all that, we had a great day.

We surprised the kids with a trip to London and Paris. They are still in a bit of a shock. We aren't going until the end of the school year, but they are asking a ton of questions. DH and I both got new iphones but the servers must be slammed because it won't let us activate them.

All hits. D/H flipped over the Swarovski binoculars, he was so surprised. The Amazon echo is a riot, we have been playing opera and one of the birds is singing along, so funny. He liked everything else including the air fryer.
I am beyond happy with the Crimson Gears of War special edition 2tb Xbox One S console and extra matching controller with charger and five games, holy cow! Plus not one but two weather stations, one for upstairs and one for downstairs, a curved front 50 gallon aquarium, red converse high tops and four Lego sets. No complaints from me at all.

What should have been the biggest hit turned into the biggest miss, literally. I ordered a Pikachu kigurumi for our youngest granddaughter(she wanted it to wear to C2E2 in Chicago this spring), the main thing she wanted. It was out for delivery the 16th, then back to the post office now there is no record of it. I have to open a claim with the post office tomorrow. Darn it!
