There is no doubt in my mind that NSBR was a massive festering ass ache for Two Peas. All the drama, all the furious reporting and emailing and threats to sue them over NSBR posts, and the utter lack of return for them as far as their main business was concerned all added up to the loathing that Matt describes. My aunt used to manage a large bookstore, one with a coffee shop inside, and she had to deal with her own version of NSBR in the group of people who would hang around the coffee shop all day long, reading books they didn't pay for and complaining to her and her staff non-stop about every damn thing under the sun. She called them NFLs (no effing life) and they were a barb in her ass every day she worked there.
NSBR was the barb in the ass of TwoPeas and just because a handful of NSBR users ordered one time back in 2002 doesn't make it ok to monopolize the time of the people trying to run a store. I never did understand the whiny baby tattle-tale shenanigans that went on and I thought they put up with it a lot longer than most people would have.

I don't know. I rarely bought from 2peas because of the postage. (as an aside, I did buy some exclusive flair because I thought it wouldn't be much to ship...would have probably been cheaper if they were solid gold). Anyway, I've worked in shops and there are definitely customers you are glad to see the back of. And I can understand there was probably some frustration with the NSBR because I'm sure there were many more people reading and posting than shopping at the store. But I don't understand WHY they never did anything about it. Why keep a forum that big without archiving old posts, or charging people to use it, or doing SOMETHING. Or getting rid of it altogether if they didn't like it. There definitely were some strange business practices going on there. Is it that odd that, if their business was closing, they would not want to have to deal with the message boards (which, it's already been admitted, they saw as more of a PITA than anything else)? We were not entitled to perpetual message boards, whether we would have paid for them or not. Do you really not see how strange it is to be angry that a company chose to close its doors and its message boards with it? To be honest I couldn't care less that they chose to close their door. I will take it a step further and say that honestly in the 10+ years of being a member of that board I really didn't think about Jeff and Kristina at all. I know that might be a shocker to them. Seriously, they just weren't that important to me. Kristina was just another person in the world to me. What I have a problem with is laying the blame of their business closing on the NSBR. If they could look past their arrogance and see their part in it perhaps they never would have had to close. I am sorry but the NSBR board did not have a part in their business succeeding and if they think it did then they are even stupider than we have been giving them credit for.

I agree with Compwalla. I am sure the forums, esp. the NSBR was a pain in the ass for them. And the Whites were under no obligation to anyone to give the peas advance notice of closing the business and the boards. Some of the peas lost their damn minds when it closed, I can understand the upset, but some was OTT. It was sad to see a community go away and it was a relief to have this place take its place.
I think inkedup and papercrafteradvocate are jeff and kristina. They are a bit too rabid in their defense of 2peas. .

Once TwoPeas became [HASH]1 and the NSBR became so popular, if they had suddenly whacked the most popular forum on their site, the outcry would have been loud enough to hear on Mars. Every single time they tried even the tiniest bit of moderation, the keening got more shrill. "Why does SHE get banned for this when these other people blah blah blah?" "I reported her seventy eleventy billion times and they still let her [post something I don't like] so who are they moderating?" On and fucking on it went. I never saw such grade school foot-stomping from grown-ass women in my entire life. Can't live with it, can't shoot it. That was NSBR.

Then they probably should have stayed on it from the beginning instead of just letting it have its own life. Can't shut the gate after the horse is out. Well you can... but what's the point in that?

papercrafteradvocate, Why are you so invested in protecting people and a company that had nothing but contempt for the people who supported them? Were you an employee of Two Peas? I'm just trying to figure out why you're handslapping the rest of us when it's the people who ran Peas who should be handslapped and more for their shit business practices and contempt for their supporters. Just curious. Not investing anything, other than pointing out that many, MANY of what has been said is not all true or was even said to begin with! For example, it is certainly not a true statement that 2peas "had nothing but contempt for the people who supported them". Not every order that shipped from 2peas was messed up, not every pea who belonged to the message boards had a bad experience there. I would say that these others who are STILL trying to kick them while they are down, trying to move on with their lives, are the ones who are overly invested in their whereabouts and doings, there was a thread posted by another member here, ripping down a new venture that KW has embarked on with her DD. Why, if you or whomever was slighted by the Two Peas founders and management, make your complaint and if you were not satisfied, move on-speak with your dollars and take your business elsewhere if it were always true that they were nothing but "shit business practices and contempt for their supporters?" Instead, you/general you took to the message boards, used their boards for free, did not shop them, complained/crated drama when you did not have a dog in the fight, and were out (and still are) for blood! Two peas has closed. They did so with as little drama and fanfare from their side, they closed as any other business would, but that even was not good enough for those who hated them and wished them the worst or as you put it "the people who ran the Peas who should be handslapped and more". Exactly WHAT do they deserve? I don't think that they deserve the levels of nasty and vitriol that others have posted here and back on the peas. especially knowing that quite a bit of it is either not true at all or exaggerated. For some to wish them even MORE ill will now, knowing that they are no longer, is just messed up and overly invested. The continued smack downs reeks like one little kid on the playground circled by the the entire school, who is being kicked and hit over and over by each school kid, whether they know the people or not. Yes, I get that sometimes there were unpopular decisions made by the owners that had the peas scratching their heads or going all out postal. Take the infamous "I did not get my Free 6x6 paper pad with my order" The member took to the message boards to air that issue, Matt responded with a very reasonable and professional explanation of the limited quantities, as well as the offer for free/discount on her next order (a nice customer service offer when the person was not entitled to the pad per the limited quantities of when the order was placed because the others prior to her had exhausted the free supply) and that went into vapid, nastyville with many members taking management to task, insulting the management on their own boards. I get that some who met KW in person though of her as a bitch or uppity--that still does not earn her the title that she held all their customers in contempt! And that is even a stretch--a few--less than a dozen who said they met her and thought her to be a bitch and even posted that on their own boards!!!!!!!! I think that sometimes people's expectations of another who is a leader (won't use the word celeb) of a company when they meet them at an event or in public are more than what is realistic or real. Pretty much, by what I have read on message boards most all those leaders/owners have been called uppity or a bitch at some time (Becky H. Heidi S. Jennifer McG. DD, and many others). What do you expect? These people to become your instant BFF's? Fawn all over you? Sign autographs? I have been there and seen some of these customers practically attack the owners--one woman almost tackled TH by trying to get at him to hug him! Maybe, just maybe they have been inundated with people all day long and a few got them at a down moment, got caught off guard, maybe they are socially awkward to begin with! There is an expectation for them to be "on" all the time and be perfectly poised and perfectly pleasant and answer everything in a way that satisfies anyone and everyone with every single request. Can you do that?? What I see here is that it is NEVER the members fault for anything, even when they get it wrong, it is always the big bad business owner. I don't think that they were perfect. I don't think that they did everything right all the time. But what I am saying is that for 15 years, they did not get it ALL wrong and that they were not some devil put on Earth evil people as some would have you believe. I was a member of 2peas since it started. I ordered as well as participated on the message boards, I was an over 10,000 post poster. I had questions for the powers that be at 2peas and every single time was treated kindly and respectfully by whomever I contacted (Melypea, Matt, geekpea, Jamie...) I am not, nor was an employee or affiliated with them in any way other than being a member of their community. During those 15 years, any ugly, drama, nasty vitriol that I witnessed was by the members of the community and not the management.

Anyone else get the feeling that papercrafteradvocate is Jeff or Kristina? I am not. I swear. I am just really tired that social media gets used as a place to destroy people and businesses, based on speculation, guesses, partial truth. The closed and people are still trying to discredit them and speculate on things that they have no business involved in, such as the financials or speculation of them divorcing. It has become personal towards them and it is just sad and mean. I am all for holding a company or person responsible for bad service, but it has gone way beyond that and then some.

When did they blame the closing on the NSBR? I didn't get that from his posts at all. He just aid they were in PITA, not that they were the cause. ?? I agree, cindyupnorth. I think Matt was trying to explain some of the forces that caused Two Peas to close. I never got that he was blaming NSRB for the fact that Two Peas closed. As for the accusation that I am Jeff or Kristina, all I can say is that you are wrong. I was a long time Two Peas customer and, as a business owner, I think I feel a lot more compassion for the Whites than most of you do. I look at the closing of their store as something that was probably very difficult for them emotionally and financially. I don't take joy in the closing of a place that provided me with education and community for over a decade. My husband and I own two restaurant and cooking supply stores. We had one customer who believed she was our most important customer and that she, in her words, "spent more with us than anyone else." (She was wrong.) She was a good customer in terms of sales, but she was also very demanding and difficult. Any purchase from her required hours and hours of our sales' associates times - multiple calls, visits and she ALWAYS demanded a discount. She returned about half of what she bought because of one negligible complaint or another. Long story short: this woman thought she was far more valuable to our business than she actually was. She was a huge PITA and we did our best to treat her respectfully and graciously no matter how entitled or rudely she behaved. We didn't make much from sales to her after you factored in the time she took from our staff and the fact that she returned at least half of what she bought. One day, she wanted to return an item to us that she had not purchased at our store. My manager called me and I had to come down to the store because this lady flat out refused to leave until we returned her money. I explained that we didn't carry that product and that we couldn't give her money back because of that. She felt like we should give her the money back because she had supposedly spent so much money in our store. She acknowledged that she didn't buy the item at our store, but she felt we owed her because she had been such a "good" (in her mind) customer over the years. Talk about huge, clanking balls. This woman trashed us three ways to Sunday in every venue possible. She went on Yelp, she went on our FB page, she would come in to the shop ONLY to loudly complain about the situation to other shoppers. Fortunately, our good reputation by far outweighed her complaints and our business wasn't really negatively affected by this woman. I know what it's like to be in Matt's (and yes, Kristina and Jeff's) shoes. It's not fun, let me tell you. Some people just cannot be made happy. They believe that the customer is always right, no matter how they behave. I see that attitude a lot here, toward Two Peas, and it bothers me. But no, I am not one of the Whites and I am not in any way affiliated with them. Just a small business owner who has compassion for a family that lost their business. Who knows how this has affected their lives?

"The Secret Garden threads were copied onto the smack blog when they were discovered by one of the commenters, in them were threads where Kristina matched several people's user names to their actual RL names by their past purchases."
KW really did this? If this is indeed true, perhaps she should've been MORE focused on learning how to run a business and much less time involving herself in petty drama. If this is the person KW really was/is, I have no doubt that she hung on every drama filled thread on NSBR. The names/match ups of people were never revealed and posted, KW just got caught having a gossip fest with some of the GG's because of stuff that members were saying on the message boards. What the accidental message did say that she knew who the people were because of having the access that she did as owner. She guilty of being gossipy and catty. Unprofessional yes, but any actual revealing of the people's names was not posted. Bad move on her part to even say that, not thinking that her private convo would be seen---yes most definitely. But, in reality names/personal info were not revealed. And to the last sentence...I almost fell off my chair laughing at the irony-- as well as it being a lesson that many could benefit from! Spending less time involving themselves in petty drama. You don't know who KW really was, I never saw her post to the drama threads often (rarely in fact if at all) and still people insist that "they know her"

I actually like this forum better, just despise all the nasty and meaness! I won't be revealing my pea ID, I have seen how a few were hunted down and personally attacked there and outside of Two Peas and that scares the daylights out of me and if I would have wanted to share that, my name would have been the same as it was there, nice try though

That could have only come from their account information.

Ok, ok Kristina. Give it a rest You now have something positive to do with your dd, so go on and live your life. Who cares what the peas say? Your rabid defense of all things Jeff and Kristina is OTT. Carry in with your life. Why waste energy on this?

And give me a flipping break, no one wanted to be Kristina White's BFF or wanted her autograph. Seriously. LMAO. I'm not to toot my own horn, but I write an article in a scrapbook mag, got a couple layouts published and I remember when I was teaching a class, someone wanted my autograph. I was like, WTF? I'm nobody. It was weird. Way weird. So, I really don't want to defend her all that much, but I could see it because there were a lot of over the top scrapbook fans acting weird like that.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Since you are so demanding of us to prove what we know, how do YOU KNOW, and can prove you know, that kw didn't violate customer's privacy? Just the fact that in gossipy mode she made the offer was enough ethical deviance for me to see her for what she was. That she can't be trusted with confidential information. Her customers had no meaning to her. I've often wondered if she wasn't invovled in some of the "outings" of peas over the years. All it takes is someone behind the scenes with access to full names and addresses to create havoc in a person's life. Then leave everyone to assume there is a spreadsheet keeper. I KNOW that she never posted the private information because if she would have, it would have been EVERYWHERE, rather than just speculation from peas talking about it. Seriously, you cannot be that dense to know that too. I have not demanded of anyone to prove what they know, I have only spoke of the things that you posted that you presented as having happened, when in reality they were just speculation and gossip. I have read where peas inserted their opinions of things and watched that speculation become gospel truth. I don't have a dog in the fight with KW/geekpea, but here we have a brand new opportunity, a new message board to leave all that drama behind and make this a great place to be all the time. Now with the second paragraph, first two sentences of yours above ^^^I happen to agree with you. As for KW spearheading or being the cause of outings of others, could be, don't have any facts or a feeling that she did, I think that there were/are some peas who were diligent about keeping spreadsheets, would google the crap out of people, and posted a lot of personal information about many peas.

Actually, your response is a perfect example of what I have been saying all along about gossip and speculation. YOU did not read what I wrote and if you did, then you definitely did not understand what I just wrote. I never said or speculated that these people wanted to be her BFF, autograph, etc. I asked "What did these people expect from them?" My example is not a horrible one specifically to what I was talking about.

Not only am I not Kristina, but if you are ScrapWench, you and I bantered (agreeably so) many, many times on the old message board. There is no rabid defense that I am presenting either, and I am not the one who has been over the top, and find your "Why waste energy on this?" absolutely funny because of the entire thread. Why not ask those who are slamming them why they are wasting their energy on it? I am only presenting part of it. I find it funny too that not one person that was a pea would admit to any responsibility of bad behavior either. Y'all are perfect angels, innocent victims.

I prefer the Michael Jackson popcorn gif.
And for the record, I'm grateful for 2 peas. I wouldn't have "met" you crazy bitches if it wasn't for NSBR.
