And yet another thing I am eternally grateful for XH for - he did all that, for each of the boys. No one wants me doing it. Ever. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

The worst part is having to go through the hoops of completing it each year, knowing we aren't getting any benefit from it. It's like a cruel joke. Exactly!!!

I did it for my sons every year to get them loans and thankfully my 23 year old graduated and my 25 year old uses his own income only - no parents info required at age 24.
I put my passwords in an email draft to make sure I could find them.

Call me any kind of mom you want, but I filled these out for both my girls. They are sophomores this year. With school and work, they don't have a ton of time and they don't live nearby. It's stressful enough for ME to fill out. Maybe I'm "that kind" of mom, too. I filled out everything for my DS. Not because he wasn't capable, but because all of the necessary financial information was from my and DH's tax forms, not his. I don't really think my kids need to know exactly how much we make. If they asked, I'd be honest, but in a lot of ways, it's not their business. ETA: Why do they tell you your "Expected Family Contribution" in a format that doesn't include dollar signs or commas? Ours was written something like EPC 043558.

Call me crazy, but after having done the FAFSA for the first time this year, I'm putting it in the same category as having a mammogram - lots of people scare the sh*t out of you about how terrible it will be, but it's really not a big deal.
It took us under 30 minutes to complete; importing info from IRS. Painless.

Oh my gosh yes. I've got a freshman I could strangle. He's thinking of transferring to a school he turned down last year. I've just learned the new academic scholarship will be substantially less than what was offered as an incoming freshman - solely because he now has more college credit hours.
And it will be this way at any other school too.
I was already coming down with a bug and this has thrown me over the edge.

It sounds awful and I'm very thankful that dd's school didn't require it.

I thought it wasn't due until March. Some colleges want it earlier. My daughter's did. They kept sending reminder emails that freaked me out, even though I knew that we had done it! I do it because I know we won't qualify for anything need-based, but if any merit opportunities come up, or if there is any money that she can get from her major or department, it will be required to get that money. It also took us less than 30 minutes, sucking all the info from the IRS site. Once I remembered the passwords that is!

As long as you have your previous taxes on hand, you just follow along and fill in the numbers from the tax boxes they tell you.
