I was driving on the interstate today and passed under an overpass that had 20-40 people on it with flags and signs waving and such at the cars going under.
I tried to read the sign on my way south, realized I didn't want my eyes off the road and ask DS what it said.
On the way back a car or two were rear ended probably my 5 cars in front to of us. Luckily we were pretty far back and got stopped without incident, a couple cars in front of us ended up in the median or shoulder to keep from hitting the cars in front of them.
This seems pretty dangerous. Why is it allowed? I know sometimes people line the overpasses with flags for a police funeral or for an honor guard, but there aren't signs to read then.

Was this on 25?

yes. Between Harmony (fort collins) and Windsor. There isn't an off ramp there, so it isn't a busy road, but i-25 is busy right there.

I completely agree. This is a regular event on the interstate that runs through my town, and it causes huge traffic problems.

So should protesters who stand in traffic, block freeways, etc. I swear that if a protester stopped me in my car from getting where I wanted to go, I'd hit 'em.

Why is that horrible. Why does someone get to disrupt MY life? What if it were a husband trying to get his in labor wife to the hospital. What if it were a parent trying to get their injured kid to the ER? If you want to ]protest, be my pest....don't involve me in it against my will. Or anyone else's.
I stand by what I say!!!

Being slowed down or stopped in traffic because of a protest is an inconvenience, not a tragedy. I can't say that protesters holding signs on an overpass would bother me at all.

I agree that it's dangerous for people to be holding signs above a freeway like that, but I disagree that protesters who inconvenience us deserve to die. What an odd thing to say.

Cindy Are you sure you didn't mean to say " I'd want to hit 'em."? Because going to jail is not worth it. We have candidates & supporters waving signs from overpasses as much as we have any protest group. I've never heard of any issues with them causing accidents. I don't read specific signs, but usually can see/read enough to know why they are there.

The responsibility is on the driver of the vehicle, to be aware of any pedestrians and NOT to hit them. Yes, it is a disruption to your life, however, the world doesn't revolve around you. If you are transporting a woman in labour or a person to an ER, please call 9-1-1 to let the authorities know that this is an emergent situation. They can help you get to a hospital, by providing an escort.

And while I know that the world doesn't revolve around me, it doesn't revolve around them either. I have more right to go about my business without being harassed than protesters have to harass me.
And a police escort isn't going to get by a freeway or road closed by protestors any better than anyone else.

Equal rights for everyone. The police can control a scene if they know of a medical situation. It has happened here in Canada. And intent to harm a person, however slight, (just hit them slightly) is still a crime.

I know my eyes left the road for a moment or two and it wasn't safe.

Cindy A driver hit a "zombie" at Comic Con a few years ago. They were walking in the street holding up traffic. He was found guilty of reckless driving.

Here's my opinion: We have to wear seat belts in our cars to keep us safe. It's the law. We have to wear helmets on our motorcycles and bikes to keep us safe. It's the law. We can't use our cellphones in the car to keep us safe. It's the law. So why then, do we allow protesters to put their lives and ours in danger on public roads or overpasses? It should be an absolute law that not one human has a right to protest on a public highway--for obvious safety reasons (among others). That's a law I would love to see passed.

People don't care then about the cauae, only the inconvenience.

Exactly...... Get a grip people... My DD went to Planned Parenthood to get her pills and she almost had to hit someone to get in the parking lot.. damn protesters. Go ahead and protest, I don't mind that. Get in the way? Yeah I would want to hit them too. Protesters also was throwing things at her and calling her names. If I had known I would have either gone with her or made her just leave.. this has never happened before.

This thread reminds me of one time I was at Costco. Traffic in front of the store was blocked because of people crossing to their cars. There was an older non-English speaking woman crossing and she lost her balance and fell.
Her family was up ahead and didn't notice at first. I tried to help her, but two men ran up before me. When the younger woman that was up ahead realized what happened, she ran back and they started speaking in a foreign language. THEN....the younger woman started saying that the car that was closest had hit her!
The driver of that car was oblivious to what was going on because she was just waiting to get through. I doubt she even knew the woman fell. Thank goodness there were plenty of people that spoke up and confirmed that story was not true!
SMH...
Ok...not really relevant to this thread, but sort of.

Why are people so unable to control their bodies. Reminds me of the boys and men who have to have women in burkas because they can't manage not to rape someone if they happent to get an erection.
Don't like protestors on overpasses (I don't either), don't look at them.
As to those blocking a roadway, call the police because that is illegal and they will be arrested.

I'm pretty sure it IS illegal to block a public thoroughfare in most areas. Here in Houston it's even illegal to block the sidewalk unless you have a permit to do so. I disagree that two wrongs make a right, though. People blocking your way does not give you the right to run into them with your car.

Being slowed down or stopped in traffic because of a protest is an inconvenience, not a tragedy. I can't say that protesters holding signs on an overpass would bother me at all. ^^^ THAT. We have traffic marquees that post traffic updates, notices about upcoming road closures, etc. ALL THE TIME along the highway here... people slow down to read them, which is really annoying, but you get used to it. The highway department posts those updates, and I'm assuming they have studies or data which shows it's safe to do so. If they can post 'official' signs over the highway and expect people to read them safely while they're driving, then protesters holding signs at an overpass isn't any different.
