1. We got RAIN today and were able to take the pup on a mid-day stroll. VERY unusual for mid-Aug in TX! 2. Football season has started! 3. Over 2,200 animals were adopted in a special Humane Society event yesterday. 4. Our 18th anniversary (21 together) is 2 months from tomorrow. 5. We got to visit with some friends and family this weekend that we haven't seen in a while. 6. I received 2 very sweet Pea messages. I'm sure there's more, but I'll stop for now. How about you???

I spent a good portion of the day with my 15 year old daughter at the outlet mall shopping for back to school clothes. She is at the age now where she wants to spend most of her time with her friends so days like today are precious to me. We got there before the crowds and had fun going in the many different stores. We bought matching Fossil bags but in different colors (me black and her brown), she found jeans that fit, and she helped her fashion deficient Mom find some nice tops for the Fall. Now we are home and she is in cleaning her room. Life is good Jill

Our old refrigerator in our rental home finally died, last night (bad). Fortunately the chest freezer and small fridge we had in storage still worked (good). Yay for cold food!!! Hoping to get some rain today as well, but it looks iffy . ETA: We got rain! Doing a happy dance .

Our old, orange tabby cat came to snuggle in my lap just now. I was thinking about how he had gone missing a few years ago (an indoor cat who'd never been outside but somehow snuck out). After a month we had pretty much given up hope of finding him. Another three months later we got a call from the SPCA that a cat fitting his description had been found in our neighbourhood and turned in. We were ecstatic when we got down there and it was him.
So I have been petting him, and enjoying his company, and feeling very happy and grateful that we got him back and can continue to love him in his twilight years.

I finally cleaned my fridge, a job I've been putting off for too long. Now when I open the door, I won't have to say to myself"gosh I need to get around to that."
45 years ago today, dh and I went out on a blind date. We celebrated 42 years of marriage last April. :-)

Found a dress that looked decent on me. I tried on quite a few to find the "one" I wanted to wear at a wedding that we were invited to.
My husband is coming home from his business trip tonight. The dogs will be so excited to see him and I guess I will be too.

My great-niece taught me how to archive my Kindle books - I'm so excited! Doesn't take much to make me happy! lol Seriously, I was feeling dumb as a bag of rocks and completely overrun with pages of books. I feel better now... and I can buy some more!

My son did the grocery shopping today. A chore I dislike doing. And he brought home Ruffles and French Onion Dip! Yum!

I met up with my BFF (we were college roommates) for brunch today. Great food and bottomless Mimosas. Then a little shopping at Ulta and Charming Charlie's. Lastly I popped into Trader Joe's before heading home (I live an hour away) for a few things and a case of my favorite Merlot from Chile. Now I'm at home and looking forward to fixing a nice supper for my husband. All in all a very delightful day.

Went to mass last night so a I was able to sleep in this morning. Hubby made me a delicious omelette for breakfast. I've spent the day baking and cooking and sitting outside with the dog. It's been a nice relaxing summer day!

This morning was my first time back at my church since June. I've been subbing all summer for a chaplain at a local retirement community so I had to be up there on Sundays. I've missed my church. It was also the Sunday closest to my dd's 19th birthday so I hosted our after-worship coffee hour in her honor -- dd and I bought a couple of cakes from Costco (she chose strawberry cheesecake and carrot cake), a veggie tray, some cheese, and coffee and juice. I put her baby picture from the hospital up on the table. lol. All the elderly ladies love to see our teens' baby pictures. We also had a special farewell and blessing for the six young people who are starting/returning to college. And, our State Department family who have been gone for six years are back now for the next three years, and today was their first Sunday back. Then we had a three-hour Session (church council) meeting. That was NOT the happy thing. ugh. But, right before I pulled out of the parking lot I texted my dh and asked him to have a gin and tonic ready for me. He did. Isn't he a sweetie? lol.

My top 2 today are: 1. I went to the nursery for a few things and then I spent some time working on the gardening in our yard. Just a little weeding, pruning, and replacing a couple of seasonal things that had given their all. It was relaxing, tiring, and great to be outside in the sun!!! 2. While we were outside, I got a visit from the sweet black lab-mix that a neighbor lets run free. I'm completely opposed to the run-free thing, but there's naught I can do about her situation. She is a very sweet dog and reminds me a lot of my lab who has crossed over - so her visits usually make me smile!

I love these kinds of threads! I got to have a quiet, calm day with family - watching all the junky Shark Week reruns! Finished repairing a quilt for a good friend at work - work is done and I have a free evening before Monday rolls around!

I started going to church with my Dad back in June and my dh decided to join us a few weeks ago; this morning we all enjoyed church together. The folks at church were grateful for my homemade cookies I brought for coffee hour. My Dad was really happy that dh and I took him shopping for food for the fish in his pond (and we refused to let him pay). Dad gave us a bunch of delicious tomatoes from his garden. I had a big one for lunch on a toasted roll with mayo...yum! DH cooked dinner and cleaned up! I had a sweet note on the coffee pot from dh this morning

Had a great day at church then talked to our family physician at church. He is offering to help get my D [HASH]3 into a surgeon faster than the current appointment we have. She is missing this semester of college because of bulging discs in her back. I am SO glad I got to talk to him today! He also validated her pain and her missing school this semester. Made D [HASH]3 feel great too!

I went to brunch today with a friend who was widowed in February. She has had some really rough days and has really struggled with allowing herself to enjoy life. She feels guilty when she enjoys shopping or a movie or everyday stuff because her SO is no longer here to enjoy those same things.
Today I saw her smile and allow herself to enjoy life. It was like the sun coming out from behind the clouds. It made my heart fill with joy to see her smile.

This is going to sound really geeky but today I bought myself a new Harmony One all in one remote. It has a little touch screen that has favorite channels that I can access just by touching the button. No dialing in a number or accessing the channel through the menu. I totally love my new little gadget.
And I am also happy about the rain we got here in North Texas this morning and the fact that almost all of the animals were adopted from the local shelters this weekend. I wish I could have convinced my husband to adopt a new cat though.

I finally found curtains that I like - been looking since I purchased new bedding in February! I've been talking to a guy every day for 4 months. We met through work, and we've seen each other several times since, but it's long distance. We say we're just friends, but there are definitely feelings on both sides. But I have gone through some real challenges personally and professionally lately, and he's really stepped up and been there for me more than I ever expected. So he's my happy today.

OK, I wanna see pics of Denda's new tandem bicycle. We had a tandem bicycle when I was a child, and it was *so* much harder to get to ride than it looks like in movies! But worth it on the long run, because it's so photogenic. Things that made me happy today: 1. Next to last day on Prednisone! The side effects have been horrid and life-altering. Only one more day until I'm weaned off! 2. Dear puppy has been endearingly cuddly while I endure all this illness and Prednisone side-effect ickiness! 3. Made chili and Fritos with chopped tomatoes, chopped green onions, sour cream and cheese, and we actually cleared off the dining room table and served everything in my Fiestaware for dinner. Delicious *and* pretty! 4. Then we had this hilarious conversation with dear son about relationships past. He's trying to figure out how to ask out a girl at work, and he's a *major* introvert who was homeschooled and has never had a significant adult relationship or even a real date. OMG, we were rolling on the floor after twenty minutes of trying to coach him through asking a girl out for a date!!!

My 14 yr old dd started hockey tryouts this weekend. There are 9 goalies competing for 2 spots. She played lights out today. She has worked her butt off all summer because she is moving into the 15-17 yr old group. It is a great lesson to her to see her hard work pay off. I don't think she will make the final cut of this team but should make top 4.
Patter hope things work out for your daughter.
