These stories are great! Today was back to school night and the PTA catered. Of course, after declaring healthy eating and cooking healthy for lunch today, I just had to have a piece of that amazing cake! I work to motivate people (okay children) all the time but I just can't keep the motivation for myself. Just keep swimming, right? In my personal experience, I've found that saying no to stuff like cake and ice cream at parties gets easier over time. The first couple of times I refused cake I was angry. LOL I love cake, REALLY love it. But each time I said no, it got easier. We went to a birthday party yesterday and they family had ordered a 3 ft sub from Subway and then there were tons of other things. Chips, dips, jambalaya, cookies, etc. I had one super small piece of the sub and a small handful of scoops with taco dip. I refused cake, ice cream and cookies. It felt good to walk home and know that I did good!! But yes, just keep swimming! You'll get there!!!

i love all of these stories! the problem i have is that most diets and lifestyles cut way back on (if not completely getting rid of) sugar. i'm a sugar junkie, i swear. i don't know how to stop.

I recently started weight watchers. I really need to lose some weight. I want to be healthy and around for my husband and children for many years to come. That is my motivation. And I want to look good in jeans. Your stories are very motivational!

I can't even begin to tell you what it feels like to go from size 18W and then pull a size 12 pants out of your closet, try them on and have them fit! This is in one year's time. It feels incredible!
I still have sugar. I don't have highly processed white sugar, but I have raw sugar-it's called turbinado sugar. I just have a whole lot less of it-just one teaspoon in my coffee. I still eat cake, but I buy it from the Whole Foods bakery so I know what's in it. And I try to watch my portions. Plus I cheat when I can't take it anymore with the hormones from menopause screaming at me for chocolate and I eat part of a Ritter (German) chocolate bar. But I'm still losing-that I can only attribute to the Forks over Knives diet. I'm not exercising either. I KNOW I should be. If I was the weight would be coming off even faster. But right now I'm dealing with adrenal fatigue that my doctor and I are working on treating.
I don't eat meat or diary. I think for me that is key. Especially the meat. It's so funny how your palate changes and you don't crave that stuff anymore At All.
Each person is different and you have to do what is right for you. But I do honestly believe education is key. Learn all you can about proper nutrition and be careful not to fall for some of the traps out there-the snake oil salesmen with their pill potions-they are everywhere. And why not? It's a multi- million dollar industry. Everyone wants to get thinner quicker and easier. But if it was so quick and easy everyone in America would be thin.
I wish all the Peas success in this battle. I've been fighting a chronic illness for over 10 years (I'm in remission now) and went from 128 pounds to 190 pounds to 135 pounds to 186 pounds to where I am currently at 150 pounds. It is maddening! I have clothes in my closet in all sizes (they are too expensive to get rid of) and hopefully this will be the last time as I am going on the down side of the scale. I have hypothyroid (doesn't help) plus now menopause, and the meds from all of those years contributed those pounds. BUT, now with healthy eating I hope to get them off for good. I've been on the thin side my entire life so getting back to normal will feel fantastic!

I have been doing WW now for about 2 months and dropped 10lbs. This is my second time around with WW, I made goal before so I know it works. I tried counting calories and exercising like crazy and was frustrated although I did gain some muscle. I think why WW is working for me instead of the other methods is because it teaches you to make smarter decisions about what you are eating and how much you are eating.
You basically are eating a low fat low carb diet and smaller portions. I do exercise, but it's not crazy like before just what works for me. I swim 4x a week for an hour and try to get in walks at lunch time. That's it. I love that I can still splurge and eat something I really like, like a slice of cake or a burger from 5guys if I want..I just track it and be accountable for what I am eating. I make the decisions and I am in control I can choose to splurge or choose not to but it's all within my pt range. And exercising gets me more pts so I can eat more if I need to.
