Granted I'm entirely too old to be watching the show but I must say I love it! I read Archie comics growing up, and stopped before the Blossoms arrived, but I do know who they are. Obviously the show is darker than the comics but I love it. I think they did a great job with the casting, the characters look just like the comics characters brought to life - in regards to the kids, that is. The parents and teachers are complely different, but I can live with that. love that Jughead has his little hat and all the other nods to the comics, especially the Grundy nod a few weeks ago. I just think it is an entertaining show and I really hope it finishes this season well. I don't know if anyone is watching besides me, but it makes me think if Archie Comics had a dash of Twin Peaks and a hint of Gossip Girl this would be the result.

I'm watching and it's ok. I never read the comics so I don't know anything about them and I think because of that I miss all those little "nods" to them which makes some things just weird to me. Like the very, very, very fake shade of red that is Archie's hair, how everything looks and seems 50s but it's supposedly modern day. A character named "Jughead" really? LOL like I said I'm sure all the fans of the comics love those things but as a show only watcher I find myself raising an eyebrow at lots of things.

My husband won't watch with me because I get so excited about the little nods! Jughead's real name is Forsythe P. Jones. I like when shows are ambiguous time line wise, like Twin Peaks was and a Series of Unfortunate Events is. I don't know why, but I find it charming. I did wonder if people who hadn't read the comics would like it or not.

First off, I am glad I am not the only one watching, second I am glad people are liking it. I haven't found anyone in real life who has even heard of it, although the majority if people I am with all day and talk with are under the age of 11, so there is that. Did your DD ever read the comics?

I've been watching it with my 16 yr old dd. The show is great and dd loves it. Shes a big Archie fan and has lots of the comics. I think the retro Archie throwbacks are really clever.
It was mentioned above that the show is a little darker but there is also a darker Archie comic too, i think called Afterlife wirh Archie. Not sure if that ties into the show or not.

I'll need to go check it out - I read the Archie comics growing up, but it has been long enough ago that I'm not sure I'd get the "little nods", but I have fond memories of Archie, Betty, Veronica and Jughead. I think I may have one or two somewhere around the house.

The Grundy thing was my favorite though, I can't explain it without spoiling a major plot point for those who haven't started watching yet, but it was really clever.

That is Zombie based, no ties to the show, but still pretty fun!

I've never seen Gossip Girl but I agree with the Twin Peaks vibe. Along with Imposters (which I LOVE) this show is my new guilty pleasure! I also think maybe this 50 year old mom should feel a bit silly watching these teenagers, but it's really fun, isn't it! I was a huge Archie fan, and I love watching for the references. I even remember Jughead having a little sister named Jellybean, which he finally mentioned last week. There's a podcast about it, and they mentioned Jughead's beanie having tags on it the same shape as the graphics on the crown he wears in the comic. Some of the scenes with Cheryl Blossom are way over the top, but I LOVEthe relationship between Betty and Veronica, as well as Betty and "Juggie." And Veronica's wardrobe is so fun!

AND... apparently archie is "hot".... Well, he did have both Veronica and Betty fighting over him! I never got the appeal of Archie. I though Reggie was more handsome. I read the comics throughout my childhood. I didn't realize the show was about them! I'll have to search for it and see if it's on Hulu.

Hmm, DD(19) is recording this because Cole Sprouse is in it (she was a huge Suite Life fan). I didn't make the Riverdale = Archie connection.

I forgot about this show until my son (15) mentioned watching it. He didn't even realize it was based on the Archie comics - or should I say, he didn't even know what Archie comics were. DH & DS were away last weekend and I binged the whole season!
Like you said, I feel like I'm too old to be watching it (and dh would have not been interested in the slightest), and yet, I enjoyed it. I'm not sure I would have liked it as much if I hadn't read Archie growing up. I had stopped reading Archie comics before the Blossoms were introduced, so I had no clue who they were. But all in all, quite entertaining and I'm sure I'll watch season 2 when it comes around.
(They sure made the parents nutty, didn't they?)

I am glad I am not the only one watching this, since I seem to be the only one who watched Twin Peaks the Return!
I am really excited about the next season, I wonder if the rumors about Sabrina coming to town is for real?

Ok, started watching and I'm hooked. I gasped though when I saw LUKE PERRY is Fred Andrews!!
Weird that they changed history and made Veronica a new kid. (Only watched episode 1 so far)
Never knew the Blossoms from the comics, what's the backstory there?

I've watched a few episodes and I like it, but I loved the old comic books and it is really hard to separate the new "personalities" from the ones that I am familiar with. I have to keep reminding myself that this isn't the Riverdale of my youth. Also, I'm not a fan of the Archie/Miss Grundy thing.
