that would be great, unless it means that he's getting a position with even more power.

How did you find this? I'm not questioning the legitimacy, my googling skills suck.

Well this is interesting news. I wonder if he's actually been shut out, or if this is just an "on paper" thing.

It's being reported that The WH says Bannon was originally given that position to keep an eye on Flynn. It was said McMasters was the one that wanted Bannon gone and more conventional staff is being put in place. I'm waiting to see the spin Trump puts on this.

Good news. Next step is hopefully getting him out completely. I'm picturing Ivanka and Jared convincing him Bannon is the cause of all problems

Which begs the question, why did Trump even appoint someone who needed babysitting?

Trump had to do this or he would lose McMaster. Late Feb, was it (?) when he said he’s willing to listen to him if he wants to make changes to the NSC. Add to this that Quinnipiac came out with the favorability rating for Bannon – turns out he’s even more disliked than Trump as he’s polling at 11%.
I’m also thinking the Nunes fiasco had something to do with this. We all know by now that Ezra Cohen-Watnick was one of those who fed Nunes the intelligence docs in an attempt to vindicate Trump’s claim of Obama wiretapping. McMaster wanted Watnick out from the beginning but was overruled by, among others, Bannon. I would think McMaster bristled at this and must have had a good talk with Trump, maybe something along the lines of his quitting if he isn’t given the authority he’s supposed to have. With the WH/Nunes comedy of errors blowing up in the press, I think Trump had to re-evaluate his thinking if he wants to get out of his slumping ratings. What would you do – keep the highly unpopular Bannon on the NSC or capitulate to the highly popular and widely-respected McMaster?

Simply because I haven't been following all that closely, can you elaborate a bit on specifically who these guys all are & who's team they're on? Thanks!

I've shared before that a friend taught with McMaster at West Point and says he is "quite simply" the best man he knows. Reportedly McMaster could not turn down this position because he is active duty. I think he will not tolerate the machinations of Bannon et. al. and while they will try to downplay this move (in the way they already have by blaming it on a need to babysit Flynn) the first shot has been fired.

As to whose team they’re on – they’re all on Team Trump. When Flynn was ousted, McMaster took his place as National Security Advisor. Ezra Cohen-Watnick is a White House aide and was Flynn’s protégé. When McMaster took over, he wanted Watnick out but Bannon and Co overruled him. Nunes, I think you already know, is the clown prince of the House of Representatives, Chair of the House Intelligence Committee, who claimed he received a call from a “whistleblower” that there were top-secret docs proving Trump’s claim of “Obama” and his evil “wiretapping” ways. Turns out it was all a badly-acted subterfuge because the info came from the WH itself, and Nunes went through this elaborate charade of “briefing” the WH on stuff the WH gave him. Watnick was one of those named who had given Nunes the documents. (Sorry about all the quote marks as we’re in an era when words have alternate meanings.)

It's a start. He should never have been in the WH to begin. He trades in hatemongering and fear. He's still in the WH though.

I knew about the strange Nunes thing but wasn't aware that it was all a "hoax". My goodness! Clown Prince indeed.
ETA: Thank you!

He's an idiot but the Senate confirmed him and IMO, it makes more sense for the man in charge of our nuclear arsenal to sit on that council rather than the Agent of Doom Steve Bannon.

Was Nunes in on the "plan" or was he made a fool by Watnick?

Wait I have one more question. Was Nunes in on the "plan" or was he made a fool by Watnick? Hard to say. Nothing new has come out in the press although Nunes had to walk back some of his more outlandish claims. What makes it harder is that Nunes has altered his story a couple times so it’s nigh impossible to know when he’s lying and when he’s stating the truth. I mean, anyone can speculate given the timeline, I suppose, but that’s all it will be.
