My eldest daughter gets married in 2 weeks time. They have lived together for about 4 years, both earn decent salaries so don't 'need' much. They didn't feel comfortable making a gift list just for the sake of it, so they have asked anyone who would like to, to make a donation to the premature baby unit of the hospital where their son was born in November. We will do that but I would also like to give them something 'significant' that they will keep and remember as a wedding gift from us. It doesn't have to be significant in terms of cost but I would love to be able to think of something interesting or original - they certainly don't need a toaster  Any ideas? Tia  |

What are they doing for wedding photography? Maybe arrange to pay for a large print/canvas of their favorite wedding portrait for the wall?

That's a nice idea 😊 They are having a photographer but have asked him to do mostly candid shots and only half a dozen or so posed, formal groups. Hopefully there'll be some good ones!

What are they doing for wedding photography? Maybe arrange to pay for a large print/canvas of their favorite wedding portrait for the wall? I had freebird do an original watercolor from photographs I took at the wedding of DH's cousin and her wife. It's beautiful and the girls love it.  |

I don't know if something like this would interest you. I suppose it depends on your DD's house style/likes though. It's from notonthehighstreet dot com. There's a few unusual personalized ideas on there.  oops I didn't want it that big ! |

i like the idea of a tiffany's sterling silver or perhaps waterford crystal picture frame - 5x7 or 8x10 in a classic style that they can keep a wedding photo in.
my mom gave us 4 champagne flutes (actually also waterford crystal) with a certain pattern based on the year we were married. i love them but admit, they have never been out of the box.

They had a private wedding with just their two best friends and DH and I attending. A week later we had a very small party for them. DD's best friend took amazing photos, so we had a very large canvas made and used it as part of the decoration at the party. It turned out great and they love it. |

How about a really nice high end blanket that they wouldn't buy themselves. For snuggling on the couch together. There are some beautiful white wool blankets out there.

My parents bought us pewter (so I don't have to polish) sabbath candlesticks from a longtime Jewelry shop in Canada.
I would say buy them something for their home that they'll either use (silver or crystal salt and pepper shakers, candlesticks, crystal or silver case, etc ) and think of you whenever they use the gift. Or buy them something for their home (art, sculpture) tray they'll look at and think of you.
We're Jewish, so there are many meaningful gifts and I think of these people whenever I look at the items 15 years later. We give candlesticks, challah plates, menorahs, wine goblets, mezuzahs (to bless house/room).
My sister got us the glass that Dh broke at our wedding. She took the glass and mailed it away to the company she bought it from and they made a glass mezuzah for our bedroom door with the shards of glass inside. They would also make a picture frame, a wine goblet and I think other things with the glass inside.

When my parent's first grandchild got married, they bought the couple an anniversary clock like they have (the kind under the glass dome) and on the card mom included some phrase (probably kind of cheesy to some) about the passing of time or marking the years or somethi g like that.
She got the same clock for each of the other grandkids as they got married. Of the 9 grandkids only my two are unmarried (stull teenagers) but I wouldn't be surprised if she has already bought them and stashed them in her house somewhere.

I got my DH a chalet cuckoo clock for our 25th wedding anniversary. I think that would make a nice wedding gift too.

Do you have anything that is from the family? My grandmother gave me her grandparents crystal creamer and sugar that they brought over from Czech when they came to the US. I keep them out, along with the silver salt and pepper shakers that came from my mom's side.

This or a special useful piece of crystal or silver. I would pick a pretty and timeless tray, pitcher, or vase. I really like the other decor things shared but they scream like 2010-now. Before you know it, that look will be out of style. I have a beautiful cross stitched tray made in 1993 by my husband's grandparents. He made the wooden tray and she did the cross stitch. I can not stand those 1993 colors and so it is not displayed at all. Also for my marriage, I received a beautiful crystal fruit bowl that is neutral and still looks good through all the changes around my house all these years. |

Just mt 2 cents...if I were the one getting married now, I would NOT want china, crystal, or just any old photo frame. It would have to be extra special. I wouldn't want to have to find a place to display anything.

No bibles If we go the route of something picture/photo orientated we will be sure to make it timeless but at the moment I am liking the idea of a trip/weekend away. Possibly they could use it for their first anniversary 😊 |

A large glass bowl/ or a cut glass bowl if they like that stuff.
With a really nice ladle. And salad servers.
I have use for a punch bowl a few times a year. And a salad bowl all summer. I use the bowl for a snack mix that sits on my table from thanksgiving to Christmas.

Not to poopoo the picture frames and crystal stuff, but I got that stuff and it all ended up somewhere in my house in a drawer or cabinet.
Now two gifts we did get that I use after 20 years is the funniest thing ever... One was an ice bucket. When we got it, I was like okayyyy when will we ever use that thing.. It gets used all the time!! (NOT saying to buy an ice bucket, cause that isn't what you are looking for.. I just thought it was funny)
But we did get a really really nice flower vase.. it wasn't crystal, but it was glass, not see through but I don't know the term, but I swear by it. Whenever flowers come home from DH or DD brings flowers home we break out the expensive flower vase every time. I don't even remember who gave it to us, but it's probably the one thing we use to this day for over 20 years.

Somebody gave us a pair of Waterford toasting flutes as an engagement present--the "peace" themed ones with doves in flight. We didn't receive a lot of stuff when we married because we eloped, but I really like these and I get the warm fuzzies when I drink the bubbly out of them.
