Good morning Peas! What, if anything, do you use from around the house in your creating? Organizing? How? Anything that is NOT specifically made for our hobby counts! The crazier the better! Share share!

Oh where to start!
I have:
- pencils stashed EVERYWHERE in my area, I would say I have at least 10 in here.
- a mini rolling pin for burnishing paper on my cameo mat.
- two plate shelf stacker things for making more room on my wooden handmade shelves.
- a pot lid organizer for my kits.
- several clear cutting mats from dollar tree for painting/misting/inking etc on.
- bubble wrap for texture backgrounds.
- Sandpaper for mini album edges.
- candy of course lol
- several rulers stashed everywhere
I am sure there are more but that is all I see at a glance.

I use all kinds of stuff because I love memorabilia and I love theme pages. Recently I have used some stick pins and lapel pins on some layouts, I used a piece of paper I found left in my car by my son - it was a teacher's handout for her students and I tore it and used it on a background of him substitute teaching.
Years ago I used to use the egg dipping wire for my Easter egg dying pages and I'd put a paper egg in it. I used fabric on a page of my son and his gf - she had made her costume and I grabbed some of the scraps to use on the page.
I have a strip of words from a tee shirt that I cut off to use on a future page when I get to those photos. I used a foam key chain with the name of my son's preschool on one of those pages.
Recently when my son moved home I asked him for his house key from his previous house and put it on a page about his house. I wish way back when I had put the actual key from each place I lived on layouts about that place. On similar layouts I have used a random key but not the key to that exact place.
In my son's school book he had actually brought home a piece of his locker when the lock broke off and I found a way to attach it to the top of the page so it sticks out of the top of the album but is secure.
Years ago I know other people did something similar but my son had to go to therapy for fine motor skills so when he learned to tie shoes I used eyelets and shoelaces and had him tie the laces on the page about learning to tie his shoes.
I could go on and on and if I think of something else interesting I'll come back and edit. |

I have: - rulers in several different places, measuring tape
- pencil, regular white eraser, fine-pt. sharpie, regular hole punch
- post-it notes! (great for sorting/organizing pictures)
- assortment of paintbrushes (all sizes, both cheap and $$). The cheap ones are used for brushing away embossing powder, the others for actual watercolor painting, so not sure if that counts.
- coffee filters for catching excess embossing powder & pouring back into the bottle
- masking tape for um, masking (also for temporarily holding stencils in place)
- baby wipes for cleaning stamps, work surface (& my hands after inking, LOL)
- fabric covered jewelry organizer trays for organizing all my punches
- Dollar Tree plastic placemats for desktop work surface so I don't have to use one of my good self-healing mats for everything, especially messy stuff like embossing or inking. (I try to keep the self-healing mats for use only when I'm actually cutting with a blade, measuring with the grid, setting brads/grommets, etc.)
- small dry erase board for jotting down reminders, ideas, or supplies I'm out of
crystalb, I like your idea of using a small rolling pin for burnishing paper on the Cameo mat...I have one of those currently taking up space in my kitchen left over from when DS was younger & I think I need to relocate it to my craft room. Thanks!

I a roll of kids art paper on a stand that I use for scrap. I have baby wipes to clean stamps. I use wax paper as a craft sheet under wet things thanks to grammadee. I use Dollar Tree baskets in my drawers as organizers. I have a basket of ribbons and zippers and trims from a garage sale or my mom's basement. |

When my kids were younger and obsessed with certain characters, I would cut off the tag from either the clothing or the price tag and include it in the layout. ETA: I realized I didn't read the question right. I have quite a few rulers laying around. I use post it notes all the time. I can't leave pages out and rarely finish one in a setting, so I write down ideas before I forget! I use CD crates for storing 6x6 paper and punches. I use Coca-Cola decorative lunch tins for storing cards. Photo boxes for storing Project Life cards. Dollar Tree plastic bins in different sizes for storing all different items. Plastic Coca Cola crates and a couple of these but with a different design |

I agree with the others, I use post-its a lot.
I use the clear plastic lid from a Costco cake as a spray station for my mists. When it gets too gross, I just replace it. There are enough events at work and in the family to find another lid.
I use wide mouth pint mason jars for my favorite pens, pencils, scissors, etc. Magazine holders hold my manila envelopes of photos.
I love hearing what everyone does.

Like justjac said, I use waxed paper as disposable craft matts. And baby wipes for all kinds of things, including cleaning stamps and wiping off ink or gelatos through a stencil to get a negative pattern. I also often use kitchen aluminum foil. It embosses well in a cuttlebug or other such machine, whether or not you glue it to cs first. If you DO glue it to cs, you can paint with black paint or gesso, emboss then sand the high points. It can be cut with dies, and also coloured beautifully with alcohol inks either as is or after embossing or crumpling. I have a cake decorating set in my craft supplies for texturizing modelling paste or paint. And have used a comb, and various other non scrappy supplies like old credit cards for slathering on paints,etc. have used plastic wrap and bubble wrap to get certain artsy effects. and of course cardboard from those pizza boxes is pretty useful as well. |

I use my mom's jewelry box for storage. I needed something for my lamp to sit on. It is perfect. She passed in 2013 so it is a nice reminder of her.
I use mason jars too; lots of them in all different sizes.
I have my washi tape in a glass cookie jar.
I have scrap ribbon in a glass fish bowl.
My large stamps are in a drawer from an end table i removed before throwing the table out.

Fridge Binz. Since Jennifer McGuire introduced them in one of her videos, I only think of them as craft room storage but that wasn't their original purpose.
Coffee filters for embossing powder or glitter.
Swiffer Dry sheets to clean my work space of glitter or embossing powder that escaped from the coffee filter.
The Absorber (automotive synthetic shammy) for cleaning my stamps.
Post-it Notes. Too many uses to mention.
ETA: Magnetic Mechanics Tray. I'm sure it's supposed to be used for nuts and bolts but that's where I keep my current dies between cuts.

My scrap space is shared with my office space so I have no shortage of traditional office supplies like rulers and post its.
I use old dessert dishes to hold small embellishments on my desk. I have a vintage pyrex canister with my buttons and a tall vase with my flowers. I moved my texture paste into an old jam jar because the original container was too tall to stand upright in my desk drawer but the jam jar fit perfectly.

If I'm not sure where I want to place a sticker I put it on a piece of wax paper and move it around my page to get an idea of how it will look. I also put my letter stickers on the wax paper to get the proper placement.

And I have sometimes affix a whole word or phrase of stickers or diecut letters on a piece of office transparency or clear plastic packaging cut to fit the space on a page, then glue down the transparency on my project. Works great for overlaying title words. |

I use the. Inserts from an Oreo package to hold Momento dew drops or washi rolls in their drawers. I cut down cereal boxes to make small trays for the same purpose. They are less bulky than the plastic ones from the stores. I save the tiny safety pins from clothing tags to use on layouts. Zip lock baggies.

I use the Pampered Chef Tool Turn-About to hold my most used tools, pens, etc. It spins, so everything is easily accessible. I also use the Fridge Binz - for my stamps, dies, and in my drawers to hold embellishments. They're so great I used them all over the house, too. I bought a utility shelf with open bins from ULine and use each bin for something different - one bin for Tim Holtz Inks and the blending tool, one for paintbrushes and water wells, etc., one for spray mists, one for heat stick gems and the heat tool, one for embossing paste and stencils and masks, etc. It's like this: www.uline.ca/BL_8769/Shelf-Bin-Organizers. Mine is the short blue one - just a little over 3 feet tall. It's great because everything is organized, but I can just throw everything back into the bin when I'm done. It's also all in the open so I see it and use it, but neat and organized so it doesn't distract or annoy me. On my desk I also have a few crystal bowls and candy dishes that I received as wedding gifts 20 years ago but have nowhere to use them - so I put washi tape, ephemera, and enamel dots in them so that I remember to use those smaller items and they don't get lost in my drawers. The Absorber cloth is wonderful for cleaning my stamps - I keep it wet in a plastic baggy so it's always ready to use. |

ALL fantastic tips/ideas/uses!
I found another use for the awesome flexible cutting/chopping mats from dollar tree last night. They work AWESOME to line the inside of Tshirts when you are painting them. I cut vinyl on my cameo (scrap) and used it as a stencil for a piece for DH's shirt I made him for Easter. The mat worked perfect to give me a stiff surface to paint on AND absorb the paint so it didn't go through to the back!
