I am speaking at a black-tie Gala next weekend, and just bought this dress today. It is prettier IRL than in the photo - the beading is different shades of blue and gunmetal. I'm wearing a gunmetal wrap with it. It comes almost to the floor for me - so an inch or two longer than on the model. I am hoping for silver or gunmetal shoes. Heel no taller than 1.5-2". Flats would be fine. The more comfortable, the better. If I could actually wear them after the gala, that would be a bonus! Help me, oh shoe shopping gurus! ******************************************************************** Update: it was a wonderful event and Jill's House surpassed their fundraising goal for the evening. I was glad to be a part of it.

No shoe suggestions...but just wanted to say how gorgeous the dress is. Thank you! Almost all of my dresses are plain black and I really wanted something with color this time.

If you are speaking (getting up and standing to speak) flats will not be fine for you - BUT that dress needs at least a slight heel to make you both look and feel better - wear the flats under your table and change before you get up if you need to!!!
Match the shoe to the gunmetal if you can and also your purse with that, just because as far as I can see that color is the less dominant so lends itself to tying in with the accessories to tie it all in.

You're going to look lovely. That is a beautiful dress. I love the color. Sorry to say that I'm a terrible shopper. I'm sure one our many fashionista peas will be helpful.

I don't have a shoe recommendation, but the dress is lovely. I love the color. If it's a little longer than that on you, I would definitely go with a heel.

Gorgeous dress!!! This pair is the first one that came up on Nordstrom's website when I searched for block heel sandal! It's what I had in mind - color may not be right but here goes! Vince Camuto shoes
Here's another one that's pricey but gorgeous! Badgley Mischka Barby
I love this one, and the price is right - I couldn't walk in it, hope you can!
Corso Como CaitlynAnother one! Pelle Moda Fabia

Thanks! Yes, I'm getting up and speaking at a podium. This is a big fundraising event being held at our local Ritz-Carlton. I am 5'8", so rarely wear anything but flats. I'm okay with a slight heel, but my dh is only 5'10" and I don't want to be taller than he is. Not to mention that comfort and walkability are important to me. I'm going with gunmetal because their is actually quite a bit of beading in it, and I needed a wrap. At 54, people don't need to see too much of my upper arms. Neither black, navy or white look at all good with the dress, but gunmetal works well. I will pick up the purse after I find the shoes. The talk is next Saturday, so I've procrastinated long enough in pulling this together.

Vince Camuto shoes These are so pretty! I love them, but would be almost 6 feet tall in them. I need to stand and schmooze with donors both before and after my speaking part, so don't want to intimidate too many people. Not to mention that I would most likely fall - I am a total klutz! That dress in very pretty. How about these link Cool! I ran out of shopping time today, but actually picked these up at Macy's on my way out of the mall today. I'll go back to try them on.

Beautiful dress! In addition to the suggestions above, please consider a bridal store or other place that offers dyeable shoes & purses in a variety of styles/sizes. They could likely dye the shoes & purse to match your wrap.
ETA: DSW, Off Broadway, & other warehouse shoe stores have an increased inventory of low heel evening shoes right now due to middle/high school/college spring dances/proms/cotillion/graduations/etc. They may also have matching/coordinating purses in stock.
Best wishes with your speech, & hope you & your husband enjoy the event!

Those are really pretty, Darcy. I hadn't seen Touch Ups before, but they have a large line of dressy reasonably priced shoes. Beautiful dress! Although those young women seem to love 3-4" heels that would leave me with a broken ankle or worse.

Have you tried 6pm.com? It is zappos' outlet "store." I purchased a pair of shoes there for my wedding that I LOVED but they are a bit too high for where we will be. I've ordered other items from them and been very pleased.
When I know I need to walk a good bit, I tend to go with a t-strap or at least an ankle strap type of shoe. They really do stay on my feet a lot better. Dillard's is also a great place to look.

That dress is beautiful! I was looking for something strappy, but everything looked so tall. What about something like these or these?

What a beautiful dress!
I had a hard time last year finding silvery shoes for DD's wedding. All the prom shoes were way too high. I think David's Bridal has some that aren't too high. e sure to post a picture of the outfit!

I love 6pm! The two pair you linked are cute. I also go for ankle straps too. I hate it when I slip out of or off of my shoes. I do too! I did a brief search on there but didn't see anything but sometime you do have to do some digging. I found my wedding shoes at Dillard's but in the store earlier this week. After weeks of shopping on line I ended up finding something in my own dang zip code that I am sure I have seen 20 times in the store but thought I wanted something different. My friend said "just try them." Lo and behold, they are amazing and I can wear them again. I swear by an ankle strap. I have a wider foot with a super high instep but narrow heel. I have duck feet it seems. The ankle straps are great for me. I have a pair of 4" heels with an ankle strap I got for some holiday parties that I can wear nearly ALL night because my feet don't get tired of trying to keep the shoe on my foot! If you look in my closet at my dressier shoes, nearly all of them have an ankle strap. Good luck and have fun at your event! The dress is perfect for your tall frame! SaveSave

What do you guys thinks about these? They are higher than I want, but I love the look and am hoping since they are aerosoles that they will be comfortable for heels (I find heels to be torture devices for the most part). My foot will definitely be strapped in, as it were.

I like them but it think it would also depend on where that dress hits your leg. If you only have a few inches between the hem and the strap, it may look too chunky but if you have most of your calf showing I think it would be great. You are about 5'8 or 9" right? My mom is 5'7 or 8" and she can pull this look off nicely. I'm sure it would work for you, too.
In that still shot of the video you can see kind of what I'm talking about where the screen hits her leg. If the dress hits you in about that area, I think you'll be fine. Clear as mud?

The dress is just about 1-2" from the floor when I'm in bare feet, so definitely lower. I was worried that they might look chunky, but love the gladiator look (and that they keep my feet where they belong on the shoe), so was hoping that these were delicate enough to pull it off. I'll keep looking!

Bumping this just to annoy people with my lack of googling skills and to add new info. I think that I am going to go with these Nine Wests with kitten heels 👠. Because, you know, kitten heels are always a bonus.
