I got back into scrapbooking after a 5 year hiatus after we moved and I came across my old albums. My absolute favorite pages are the ones that bring me back to the day. Things like the ephemera (ticket stubs, admission bracelet, brochures) and detailed journaling. I'm not talking about the sappy Hallmark sentiment when I talk about journaling, but simply the date, who, where, and a funny or pertinent part of the story.
"The temps were perfect! The day was great despite the fact dad forgot to turn off the grill the night before and we ran out of propane! He improvised and we enjoyed our hog dogs on a camp stove. The kids loved it so much, we pitched a tent, too"
So instead of just a large title saying BACKYARD CAMPING I think the quick journal saying how you got there is important! Instead of baby covered in baby food, maybe a note saying which food was a favorite and how baby would grip that spoon from you each bite.
I wish every page was like this!
One last thing... I really dislike the pages where I am clearly trying to use up a paper pack or collection. I'm realizing my choice of paper and embellishments for a particular page also tells a story about what my likes and inspirations were at that time. This is a primary reason I ditched old old stuff. I want my albums to evolve as much as I do.

I have realized that I frequently forget to add the date to my layouts. How I can forget something so basic? I have tons of layouts from Disney World that are from different years and I'm struggling to remember which trip is which. The fact that I'm not a chronological scrapper doesn't help. I can easily scrap photos from different years in one scrap session. I hate having to go to the computer to try to find the photos so I can figure out the date. I know I ordered photos from somewhere that printed the date the photo was taken on the back. Now they all seem to print the date printed which is no help.

I went through a phase where I would never add the date. Since I don't scrap chronologically either but keep my albums roughly chronological, it was such a pain to put them away. Yet, I still have to go back and add the date on occasion now.

I usually have 'back stories' about the photos that I would tell someone if I was showing them the photos, so that's what I write for my journaling. I typically write my journaling right on the layouts, too- if I use a journaling card I almost ALWAYS have too much to fit, and it makes me frustrated. (I don't plan out what I'm going to write, I just start writing...) I don't like STARTING the journaling, but once I start, I find out that I have a lot to say, lol!

Looking back at my pages... I tend to be a pretty simple scrapper, I don't get trendy and use mainly stick to the basics (patterned paper, photos, a title and journaling) I like the pages with the extra touches better... the ones that look like spent more time on them...
stamping outlining layering different papers a well chosen sticker punched shapes border punches clusters things tucked in those tab thingies
I wish I spent more time, adding stuff to my layouts instead of speeding through trying to catch up (I'm only about 3-4 years behind, what's the hurry? )

tracyarts said in the other thread how she used lots of physical memorabilia which is something I always mean to include but feel like it so rarely happens. I also wish I didn't go through the no journaling, just cute photos stage, but they were cute photos and cute pages. Same here. I have a bag of memorabilia that's dated and sorted chronologically but I still never manage to get those things on to my layouts. Lots of my earliest layouts have no journaling. I'm redoing some of them. The ones where I think it's important to add journaling to.
