Hey everybody. Figured I'd get this started today before I left for work. No plans for the gym today for me. I'm about to leave for work and should be home around 4:30 or 5. I'll post more later, but for today, how about everybody introduce themselves? Maybe what your goal is, what progress you've made, and how you are working towards it? And then maybe one tip you might have for somebody starting out? I'll post my response later so I'm not late for work. Y'all have a great day!

I'm Polly. I lost 51 lbs. a few years ago and had a long thread on 2peas about it. Suffice to say, I've 'found' that back with interest *&^%$#@. My Nan died on July 28th last year and some family members decided to getskinnyfornan by July 28th 2014. The biggest loser (or winner) is my cousin Sammy who went from 500 lbs. (yes, really) to 231 lbs. I have an Aunt who has lost 52 lbs. and my sister has lost 22 lbs. I'm heavier than I was on July 28th last year and my new goal is to get back to that weight over the next month. Progress I've made is doing the Shred 2 days in a row and committing to doing it at 6am tomorrow.
So, I'm certainly not the world's expert or anything, but my tip is to start. I really like this Chinese proverb: "The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now". I didn't start with my other family members, but I'm doing it now.

Hey everyone! I got to my goal weight through WW several years ago. I felt great being back to my "usual" weight. Then my girls left for college in August, and I had a very hard time. I am a stress eater. And through that, most of the weight found me again. Not all but most. I was SO sad and upset with myself. But through that I learned that I cannot do the WW eating plan. It's not a lifestyle for me. I shared with my friend/nurse practitioner and she suggested low carb/low sugar. I discovered that I am a carboholic! Even on WW I would eat too many carbs. So, the last week of February I completely changed how I eat. I now eat low carb/low sugar. I don't count anything or write anything down. I just eat watching carbs, sugars, and portion sizes. This has been awesome for me because I can live without being tied to counting anything. I have lost 21.4 lbs., and still would like to lose another 30 lbs. In the beginning it was hard because I had to spend 3 hours at the grocery reading labels, changing what we buy, what I cook, etc. Hubby has been very receptive, and we are enjoying this new way of eating.

I need to join in this thread because I've been back on WW for one week now. Notice I said "back on". sigh.... Anyway, one week and I've lost almost 5 pounds. go me! And really I didn't exactly follow the WW plan because we had just gotten back from vacation and didn't have any groceries and I hadn't taken time yet to sit down and plan dinners. But since I know the program I know portion sizes, what's high points, and blah blah blah. So why don't I do it all the time? grrr at me. But for this first week all I did was add in exercise, cut out after-dinner stuff (wine and pretzels are my favorite....very pointy), and not have second helpings (because those seconds are just for taste, not because I'm still hungry). Just doing those things is bound to get me to lose weight in the beginning. Of course we all know that later on it becomes more difficult. But I'll take it for motivation in the first week! Good luck to everyone else.

I'm Monica and I lost 45 lbs on WW in 2012. Since then, my healthy habits have slipped a bit and while I'm still in the healthy BMI range (albeit at the top!), I am currently 7 lbs above goal. I am working to get those off by tightening things back up. It's tough! One thing I've learned, and I've probably said it before on these threads, is that you should never do something to lose weight that you're not willing or able to do once you get to goal since the difference between losing weight and keeping it off is practically nothing. That's why it's important to pick a plan that is livable for you, and to lose weight in a slow and steady manner. Weight loss is not a race and it's not a competition. I think it's smart to just settle in to a process because it's for the rest of your life.

I'm motivated to lose weight (55 pounds since August 2013) a/o today. I'm really not greatly motivated to exercise. BAH. The personal trainer I went to was an asshole, and being on the treadmill is not my idea of fun. I have RA so I'm sort of limited as to what types of things I can do.
Good luck to everyone!

I would like to lose 50 lbs. I am the heaviest I have ever been. A month ago I started being conscious of what I eat and started walking. I have now gained 8 lbs. Last week, I even started adding running into my walks. I'm very discouraged, but I need to lose 30 lbs to go see a plastic surgeon. I want to have a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction for preventative reasons in February and the surgeon won't do the surgery unless I lose some weight.
As for today, I just did 2.2 miles mostly walking, and maybe a little over a 1/4 of a mile was running. I keep trying to add in a little more every day.

Hi Everyone, Angie my former coworker has RA badly and she can kill the elliptical. She goes so fast on it and she has had a zillion joints replaced on her body. If you can't do the treadmill what about the elliptical?
I tried the StairMaster at the gym as it looked easy enough. Yeah fell off that. I made sure no one saw me as it is way back in a corner and I never got on it again. I am strictly a treadmill or outdoor walker.
When I walk outdoors I pick routes that give me the most challenge. I go up hills that I know will be difficult because I like the incline. I negotiate with myself the entire time. Go this way because it will be prettier, this other way has prettier flowers. Another route because I am right beside the ocean.
If I am not wearing my fitbit I use Map my Walk and it shows exactly how far I have walked. I like doing that very much. If I get 3 miles out outdoor walking in a day I pass out at 11 pm and wake up at 5. It is perfect. Somedays are better than others.
I have to get a grip with my eating. I have to do something but I am just not motivated to do anything right now. #@$#@$#$#$#$#$#$ maybe this week will be the week I can start again.

I lost 98 pounds in 2011/2012. I did it with 6 days at the gym, cleaner eating, and about halfway through a lap band. I know people think that it's cheating, but the band still required hard work.
Last summer they had to loosen my band when I had surgery and between that, not being able to exercise and some depression after surgey, I've gained 30+ pounds in the last year, lost muscle and self image.
I can't figure out how to motivate myself to get to the gym. I'm hoping that following these threads will spur me to go.

Bariatric surgery is the same as killing yourself at the gym. It's not like *poof* and the weight is gone. I wish it were otherwise we would all get it done!
Discipline is the way to weight loss. The only way...diet and exercise.
Now make myself believe i!

Waving hi. I am an emotional eater and have probably lost and regained 400 lbs thru the years, I'm 56. Since Jan I've lost 22 pounds, most of that within the last 6 weeks. My sis and I have been using Dr Travis Stork's method, his book is The Doctor's Diet. Pretty much no carbs, lots of veggies and eating clean. So far so good. I am having issues with my heel right now so I haven't been able to get in the walking I'd like. Good luck everyone.

Hi ladies, so nice to see this thread!
I'm Gloria and I lost 48 lbs. from January to July last year. Since that time I haven't lost anymore weight but haven't gained any either.
I lost the weight by eating clean and healthy. I cleaned my house out of crappy food and only bought healthy food. I figured if it isn't in the house then I can't eat it. This was a little easier for me than it would be for others as my son's are grown and it is just my husband and I, so no kids wanting treats etc. I quit buying pop, I was replacing water with pop. So that went too.
My exercise was the treadmill, that way I had no excuses. Rain, snow, sleet or hail, didn't matter. I could still go downstairs and walk on the treadmill. I started out slowly and built up. I did that 5 days/week, took 2 days off.
My number one tip/thing I learned, stick to an eating schedule and always have a protein at each meal/snack. I found if I ate on time and on schedule, then I was successful.
My goal is to lose another 20-25 lbs.

Hi Everyone! I'm Michelle. I don't know how I missed this thread on the old board but so excited to find it here! I need to lose a LOT of weight (probably 130lbs). I'm a stress eater and my middle name is stress. My DH is battling cancer for the second time in 2 years, I have a 11yo son with Autism and I work about 60 hours a week.
I'm doing a Whole30 starting tomorrow, had great success with my first. And I'm going to start CharLean Extreme, which is a lifting program. Hopefully doing those 2 things will jump start my weight loss. My biggest challenge, in addition to have zero time, is making myself get up to work out in the morning. It's the only time I have. By the time I get home from work, make dinner, do some laundry, get DH and DS settled, it's 8pm and I'm ready for bed. So while I do my weekly cook up today, I'm going to be psyching myself up to get up at 4am tomorrow to get my workout in.

Hi. My name is Nora and I'm a soda-holic. Soda is my comfort food. I've been struggling with treatment resistant depression for a few years, so I've been drinking a lot of comfort. I'm almost my heaviest weight ever and that really needs to change. I'm hoping that participating with you all will help keep me motivated, since around home I just turtle up, feel depressed, and drink another soda. I have been trying to focus on eating healthier things like fruits and vegetables, which I love. I need to get back to exercising. I lost a gazillion pounds a few years ago just walking. I like to walk once I create the habit. At the moment though, I feel like I'm trying to dig my way out of a 6 foot hole with a teaspoon. But I'm starting now and I'll get there, right?

I don't need to lose weight but I MUST get back into some semblance of a healthy exercise program. As I age more and more creaks and groans are finding their way into my body. So if someone on here can motivate me to get moving I would greatly appreciate it!

Exercise....motivation....ughhhh.......
I've been highly motivated during this past year. I've lost the weight I had gained after various physical issues. Now to maintain. That's my issue. I feel really good when I exercise. Why the heck I don't remember that when I don't feel like working out is just baffling to me. On those days I don't want to work out I've gone anyway realizing that those days are probably the most important to work out.
Currently my arms/legs are toned. Someone said the other day that I'm really "buffed"....I laughed. I can get into clothing I never thought I'd wear anymore. I'm amazed. If someone would of told me that this would happen a year ago I would of said...no way!
So, motivation....just start. Do what you can. Something I learned years ago helped me when I was able to restart this journey. I learned that if I want to burn lots of calories I must do weight lifting. So, after I got started working out I talked to my trainer. He had me do cardio for a couple of weeks prior to giving me a routine. Now, when I meet with him it's only once every 3 months or so. He works me through a routine. He writes it down on a chart. I do that routine every other day. On my off days I'm doing cardio. Yes, I do go to the gym 7 days a week unless I'm sick or we are out of town and I there isn't anything available (very, very seldom).
I'm amazed.......oh, the other thing I have done is created a spreadsheet that has the info that my scale gives me. When I weigh in on Monday's I enter all of the scale info onto the spreadsheet. I've also taken pictures every 4 weeks since I started. The photos aren't the best, but they are head shots from my computer. It shows me my progress.

Great thread, thank you! I got a Fitbit April 21st and my scale April 27th. Since then I have lost 18 lbs. I'm eating normal foods, just making better choices and having smaller portions. I try to walk 5000 steps a day, which is really hard since I'm an hourly employee working production at a desk. I have enjoyed taking water fitness classes at my town pool 3-5 times a week. My best tip is find an activity or exercise you enjoy, otherwise you won't do it. I can not talk myself into going to the gym no matter what time of day it is. But I can wake up at 5:15 three days a week so I can walk the 10 minutes to my pool classes. And this is coming from someone that used to get up at 7:30'ish to get to work by 8:30 I have been struggling this past week, but I'm on my way to spend three days walking an amusement park so I'm hoping to hit 20,000 steps at least two of those days!! Good luck to everyone, I look forward to all of use supporting and encouraging each other I've noticed too often IRL people prefer to give unasked for advice than support

Soda, pop, carbonated whatever...do you drink them? I just hate the taste of carbonation. Aspartame scares me. A long time ago it made my skin break out like a butterfly rash on my face and my doctor thought it was the start of lupus. It went away right away after I got rid of the Diet Coke. That was in 1992 or so (looong time ago). I just never went back to it. I hate sugary pop too.
I like sweet things. I don't eat tons but I do eat some. I also like bread, rice and pasta. Pasta to me was created by a Goddess called Pastaste. She was the goddess of the kitchen and wanted me to have this glorious food.
I want to do a low carb diet again but I don't know if I can do it right now. I will try though. Tomorrow is a new day. My pants are getting tight again and something has to be done.
Tomorrow is yoga at the gym with the BEST instructor in the WORLD!!! Love this instructor. (If you ask me on Wednesday I will tell you I like him better though). Can't wait to go tomorrow.
Tomorrow I take on the world!

Awesome thread! I've been trying to eat more cleanly and exercise more. Since January I've gone from couch potato to running 3-4 times per week. I really want to try and be more comfortable with the running -- I feel so much better when I do it. I just don't feel like I have a comfortable stride yet.
I've had a setback the last week with Lyme disease. I'm feeling better today, but the doxycycline is making me sick to my stomach and I have to take it for two weeks.
My one tip to offer: stick with it. If you mess up or skip your exercise, get right back on it and don't kick yourself about messing up. Just keep going.

Alright I'm home from work. You can't say you don't work hard while serving. I got in almost 13,000 steps so far today. I just had Singapore rice noodles for dinner with lots of veggies. A total splurge, but so good. It was the first real food I've had today other than almonds and an apple.
Ok, so about me. I'm 21, getting ready to finish up my final semester of college. I've always been pretty heavy, even in high school, and I've gone up about 3 sizes since I graduated high school. My diet got really bad, and I was tired of being so out of shape. I'm lactose intolerant and had been reducing my meat consumption already. I watched forks over knives at the beginning of February. They advocate a whole foods, plant-based diet. So I decided to try it for a month. I lost about 8-10 pounds that first month, wasn't feeling sick to my stomach as much, and just felt healthier overall. I figured I may as well stick to it since the hardest part is getting started.
Mid May I came back to my hometown and joined the gym with a friend. I also did a 3 times a week, 6 am weight loss class for a month to help ensure I established the habit of going. I've lost 35 pounds overall, and 15 since joining the gym.
My summer goal was to lose an additional 20 pounds, putting me at 40 pounds lost total. I'm upping that to 50 pounds total by the end of the summer since I have been doing so well. So I want to lose 15 more pounds before my semester starts.
Long term, I think my ideal healthy weight is about 95 pounds lower than my current weight. That number is higher than what I've previously thought, but given my height, body type, and muscle mass, I think I've got a strong idea of my final goal weight. So long term, I need to lose some serious weight. But I also want to be healthy, strong, fit, and have higher stamina. I would love to travel post graduation, and I want to be healthy enough to really enjoy it and take full advantage of opportunities. I don't want to miss something because of my weight.
My tip- find what works for you. Seriously, it doesn't matter if someone you know lost a bunch of weight with WW. If you hate counting things, don't try. If you have to know exactly what you're eating, then go for it. I don't track or restrict my food or caloric intake in any way. I just make sure the foods I'm eating are good for me and eat whatever I want. I freak myself out and over think things otherwise.
Anyway, good luck and I'll check back later.

I have been a yo-yo since high school. Up down, up down. 6 years ago, thanks to having a personal trainer, I lost 35 pounds. I was 8 pounds from my goal. Had to quit the trainer due to budget concerns, so I stopped working out as much. I gained about 10 pounds back. My mother died unexpectedly in June 2012. I hit rock bottom and gained 20 pounds rapidly. I started WW on the last Friday in May with a friend. I have lost 7.8 pounds since then. I walk regularly. I have a fitbit and really try to get my 10,000 steps in daily. I am a teacher and during the school year I usually have 7000 steps before I leave the school. I am walking around my classroom all the time. I am going to start some type of full body workout but just haven't been motivated to start. I know how sore I will be. The biggest change I have made is I turned vegetarian. I know that has helped me cut calories.
Chips are my absolute trigger food. I keep them in the house for my children. I have to really keep myself away from them.
It helps that my dh is trying to lose weight as well.

I'm Sabrina. I've been heavy my entire life. I've lost a little, gained it back, lost a little, gained it back repeat several times. The piece I've always been missing is exercise. I've always hated it and not motivated to do it at all. My friend talked me into joining her P31 class. I'm by far the most overweight person there, but I do what I can and can hold my own. I can't believe I'm running and doing things like push-ups. Right now I'm not focused on the overall goal, because I have a lot to go. I just want to continue to eat right and exercise. I did set a short term goal to lose 20 pounds by the time I go back to school in mid August. So far, I have lost 5 pounds during the first 3 weeks of summer!

Hi, I'm Tammy. Need to lose 70 lbs. I plan to do 15 on elliptical everyday and weight training with bands 3 days/week. I'll use MaxPro protein powder for breakfast (can't stand eating food till 10 am) but I need something so shake is it! As far as food I am just reducing portion size, limiting sweets & breads and eating out. I don't drink soda regularly so no bad habit to break there!
Starting off with a motivational saying for the week: "People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing, that’s why we recommend it everyday.” -Zig Ziglar

I've gained 20 lbs this year so I plan on losing it before my vacation in Sept. I exercise twice a day 5x a week so that's the easy party. The problem is binging on the weekends and my social life. I did a 3-day juice cleanse this weekend to kick start my clean eating no slip ups challenge for the next 75 days. I stayed home to not exert any energy while I do this. lol Surprisingly it really hasn't been hard at all, but tomorrow will be the test when I go back to work. I went to a cocktail party last night and was proud of myself for not having pizza. Today I can't believe how flat my abs look after just two days! I wish I'd gone to a pool today. I started running a month ago so I want to get back into that when the weather is not too humid. I just read this amazing book called Made to Crave which was written by a Christian author, but what's different about her book is it's not a diet book. I've read plenty of those. Her book is about self-control and believing in yourself that you're worth more than this to be in this constant cycle of battling your weight. I'm going to try low carbing for the first time which for a vegetarian is going to be hard!

To add to the post: I want to lose another 40 pounds, at least. I'm starting to see the results of weight loss and I'm pretty pumped about that. I really do want to join some type of gym (but not a meat market) because 1) that will actually motivate me to move since I'm spending money and 2) I get to meet new people (hopefully). I do find that I get discouraged because everyone who is a gym member seems to be well, an old pro at this and not an exercise slug. ha!

My people! Short story: I've lost 40 pounds in the last year-ish and would like to lose about that much more. (Wow, that hurts to admit!) I'm working out with a personal trainer and getting better at managing my food choices using My Fitness Pal. My biggest challenge is that I work 12 hour days with no breaks. Annabella, I have that book, but I haven't read it yet. I need to pick it back up.
