My mom had surgery yesterday, and it went very well. I am very happy that it went well. I wish her a continued swift recovery.

Your concern is justified. The death rate for people in the first 3 months after a hip fracture could be as high as 1 in 5. The increased morbidity rate lowers after those first 3 months but remains a factor in deaths for 2 years or more. Many of the deaths are caused by pulmonary emboli, pneumonia and infection. Decreased mobility after a hip fracture will increase the risk of blood clots (including pulmonary emboli) and pneumonia. It's surprising how few things have changed in geriatric care since the 90's.
It sounds as though your mom is mobile already, and isn't frail or sickly. So I wouldn't worry about these issues. There is every reason to believe she will come out of this and feel even better now that she has that hip fixed.
