What type of organizer are you? Do you have to have everything just so or is it all sort of thrown together. O.K. so this is kind of a s/o of the "most difficult item to organize thread". Just wondering if I'm an oddball or really unorganized. Most of my supplies are grouped by type together and I just dig to find what I want. Like all my stamps are in 1 drawer of a recollections cube. They are not divided by theme or anything. I throw all my scraps into one basket and dig through it if I want to use a scrap. Letter stickers are all in a drawer together. This works for me. I don't mind rummaging through the drawer or box for a minute to find something for a layout. It really doesn't take long. I promise I'm not searching for hours for just the right element for a page. So how do you organize? Is everything separated by theme or color? I do have a few Iris boxes that I keep some theme items together. I have one for Disney, holidays, school, and travel. I pretty much keep anything that goes with those themes together. I throw it all in; paper, embellishments, everything. If you do separate by theme; what do you do with anything that doesn't have a theme? Just curious how everyone keeps their stash straight. Like I said I'm mostly happy with my way, but always interested in how others do things. So, please share your organizing style.

My 12x12 papers are organized by theme in Iris boxes. (Christmas/winter, Halloween, Thanksgiving/fall, Holidays, Birthday, Pets, Zoo, spring/summer, School, the rest is by color ROYGBIV or manufacturer.) The rest of my scrapbooking supplies are organized by type.
It works for me because that's my scrap process. -choose photos -choose background paper -choose accent paper -choose embellishments

My stuff is kept with like products, all buttons are together, all brads are together all cardstock is stored ROYGBIV and pattern papers are in kept in theme or type, baby/kid, spots, floral, geometric etc....

I do pretty much like you do. I tend to think in terms of what type of thing I want to use first. I know that some people will organize by type and then color but I like to see all my colors next to each other. Gives me more ideas for color combinations. And I like digging through my stuff. It's part of the process for me.

I store like with like, but I don't have enough space to further separate it by color! I keep patterned paper by manufacturer- I can seem to remember collections; this is probably not the best way though

I'm a minimal organiser, the paper and card goes in one box except for current design team stock which I keep separate. Embellishments are in a drawer and adhesives sit in one pot. I also have all necessities like scissors,pens,inks,stickers etc in a sort of handled tool caddy so I can just grab it and paper to work anywhere.

Buttons & brads are the only things sorted by color. I sort letter stickers & thickers by color every once in a while but it lasts about 3 layouts before they are all mixed up again. The rest of my things are sorted by type or size. I keep my 12x12 sticker sheets in the same basket with my patterned paper, I use large chipboard pieces to separate them. Small sticker sheets, enamel dots on cards, journal & PL type cards are all kept together in a container.
Relatively speaking, I don't have a big stash and I flip through things all the time so nothing gets buried and I don't forget what's there.

paper - mostly by colour (both cardstock and PP) but Christmas and Girl Scout each have a drawer (with their embellishments) and other themed PP is with the embellishments
embellishments (non lumpy) - in file folders in a box by them - letter stickers have a folder too
I have a drawer for non-themed and lumpy embellishments (brad/eyelets etc...are sorted roughly by colour in a divided box in the drawer)

I have a big bunch of those Sterilite 12x12 three drawer units, and I use them for my papers, punches, stamps and inks, scraps, chipboard, "in process" layouts, separate projects, really anything that will fit.
I also have a bunch of those cheap cardboard photo boxes that I use to store ribbons, trims, packaged embellishments, paints, adhesives, etc.
For the most part, I have place for everything, but I don't have that much stuff anyway. My biggest issue is that I'm not good at putting everything away after finishing each layout, so everything collects on my table. I'm thinking about getting a cart for the tools and stuff I use all the time. I already know my cart will be a mess, but I can live with that.

I have the themed Iris boxes just like PEARfect, but I put all theme related embellishments in them as well as the paper. All my cs & non-themed patterned paper is ROYGBIV. Even though I'm very matchy-matchy w/my embellishing, I still store the rest of my embellishments by type: ribbons, brads, metals, etc. For me, if I'm looking to fill a space, a button won't help me if I'm needing a piece of ribbon or twine. Type comes first, then color when I'm choosing embellishments. And my process is identical to PEArfects, except a a scraplifter, my 2nd step is choose a sketch.

If I have too much of one thing together, I have to separate them more. I don't have many stamps, so they are all thrown together unless they have a specific theme, then I store them with the other themed items in a sheet protector. Generic, colored embellishments are all thrown in a basket, but separated in gallon bags by color. Card stock and patterned paper scraps are sorted in sheet protectors by color.

By nature, I'm an organized person. I like things to be neat and pretty but I still want to see my stuff so I remember I have it.
That said, right now my stuff is a disaster of half organized, half chaotic mess and it makes me go mad when I can't put my hands on what I want or need right away. Eventually what I want is to have all of my stuff sorted either by the theme I bought it for or by type/color. I don't typically purchase things just because, I almost always have a project in mind when I'm buying stuff. So basically everything I've bought in the last couple years has been sorted by theme in Iris or Options bins by theme regardless of what it is. Patterned papers, stickers or embellishments, special ribbon, whatever, it all goes in the bin for that theme or project. If I have photos printed for that theme, they go in there too. I need to do better about finding and using sketches so I can throw them in there too if I see something I think will work for some photos I want to scrap. All of my bulk cardstock, bulk patterned paper (for kits) and bulk embellishments are stored by type, then broken down by color. Since these are the things I need for work, they are all totally organized. Even my cardstock scraps are neatly organized by color in four 3-drawer Sterilite drawer units under my desk.
My Achilles heel is all of the personal stuff that I moved from the old house in 2012. Virtually none of that has been unpacked. There's nowhere for it to go at the moment so there's no point in even unpacking it. I need to go through it. Some of it I never had the time or space to sort through it and purge before we moved so it all got packed up and hauled over. More of it is stuff I bought to scrap specific vacations, project kits I want to make or blank decor items I want to customize. I still want to do those projects at some point, but it's too much of a mess to try to figure out what is where. I could never be a digger. My stuff would get all bent up, faded, dusty or ruined and ultimately would be thrown out.
I'm SO looking forward to the day when all of my old stuff is integrated in with my newer stuff, all my tools are unpacked and accessible, and I can get rolling on some of the bigger things I've really wanted to spend some time working on

Organized? Ummmm... well... Paper is in Iris boxes, I try to keep collections together but really no system. Stickers are in plastic envelopes and in some Iris boxes with the matching paper. Tape, pens, dies, in a big Rubbermaid container. I just don't want to spend big money on organization, would rather spend it on supplies. BUT, my stash has gotten so big sometimes it is exhausting looking through it all to find what I want for a layout. I have one pre-order in for a collection, but honestly after that I am focusing on using and not buying.

My successful areas: I keep cardstock by color. I keep most all alphas together - stickers, thickers, beads, stamps, brads, my exception is chipboard alphas, are in a separate container. I keep like with like on embellishments. Some do get further divided down like buttons, brads, rhinestones, and enamel dots get sorted by color. Journaling cards and spots are together and separated by ornamental and journaling spot and then by horizontal and vertical. I may add by journaling labels and labels in this mix too. Stamps get divided by theme. All hearts, stars, border strips, flowers, butterflies are together and not divided - fabric, paper, wood, stamps, punches all together. My problem at the moment is pattern paper which is sorted by color and collection - I initially search by mood and then accent pieces by color. Weird, I know. I've been starting with collection pieces as I know the mood of those right off. But I'm not happy doing it that way, so when it comes out of the boxes it will probably be resorted by mood and I'll see how it works.

I'm working on this! I moved almost 11 months ago and my scrap room has been a dumping ground. I started this weekend on it - it's in the "it looks worse, but it's really better" phase.
Plus I'm purging. Which is really hard, but will be worth it I'm sure!

I'll be setting up my new scrap space again soon, and I'll probably set it up much like I used to have it a few years back. I do a lot of things the same way you do. My stamps are in 3 Sterilite 12x12 drawers, one for alphas, one for wood backed images, and one for repositionable images. My smaller scraps are in one drawer, but when I get too many I'll separate them into 3 or 4 envelopes based on similar colors, and then I'll make borders or embellishments out of them to use them up. My inks are all together, my pens are all together, my ribbons are all together, etc. And my box of miscellaneous embellishments is close at hand. For the most part, I don't separate anything by theme, but I do have half a drawer for all my themed papers and a small box for themed embellishments. I try to avoid buying papers and stuff I can only use one way, but I do have some. And, like you, I don't mind digging through what I have to find what I want. It reminds me about some materials I have that I may have forgotten about, and it also inspires me to use what I have (and maybe hadn't considered for a certain layout) in new ways.

It looks pretty comprehensive and well worth checking out. Best of all, it's FREE! Gotta love free. The free online organizing class by the ScrapRack lady is pretty good too.

I have an 11 x 12 foot room with a large black credenza purchased specifically for scrapping. I also have a 6 tiered Clip It Up with hundreds and hundreds of embellishments. One of the things I saw that I would like to do is a rolodex for stamps. I like my stamp storage, but would like to see them all at once. I think you will like some of their ideas.

I have most of my stuff really organized, so I didn't need to go week by week, but I did read through each lesson pretty thoroughly. How did you get all of them at once? It said it would send me one a week for 27 weeks ... I didn't get them all at once. I signed up for the class and dutifully downloaded each one every week and saved them to my iPad. I knew when I signed up that it would probably be six months or more before I'd be able to do anything with the information, and I'm still waiting. At least I read through it, so I'll have a little bit of a heads up when the time comes to implement some of it.

I'm an organised kind of person so my workspace reflects that. The only exception is my full sheets of patterned paper which are all just stored in a drawer in no order. I only have about 3 or 4 inches of paper and have a pretty good idea of what is in there so I'm happy just to pull them all out and rifle through until I find what I want. Cardstock is in a separate drawer sorted ROYGBIV with black/grey/browns at the bottom and white at the top. Embellishments are sorted by type and I have separate drawers for Christmas and travel specific items. Anything from a Christmas or travel line that is more generic and could be easily used on other layouts gets filed in with my general embellishments in two sets of old desktop metal filing drawers and a floor standing set of wooden filing drawers. I store all my brads by colour in small containers and have my wood veneer and flair in the same drawer in vintage mini pie tins. Enamel dots and anything else like this are in the same drawer. Buttons are all thrown in together in my grandmothers old sugar bowl and flowers are all mixed in together in a hurricane glass.
I have my diecuts split by those I would use for journaling and those for embellishments/pocket pages in separate drawers. The non-journaling drawer also contains all my sticker sheets and other die cuts. I cut most of my sheets up into individual pieces - I discovered I saw so many more possibilities for some of them when I wasn't blinded by the whole "this is a Christmas themed sticker sheet". I don't have a lot of stamps / stamp pads / tools so they all have their own drawers. Punches are too bulky to fit in my desktop drawers so they live in one of the drawers of my desk. Paper scraps are stored by patterns or cardstock in two drawers. I used to have these separated out by type (dots, words, florals, etc) but would then spend half my time sorting through them looking for something in the right colour. I keep 6x6 paper pads in the patterned drawer as well and can never have more on hand than what fits in the drawer. I use my scraps a lot. All my alpha stickers/thickers are in one drawer and I keep all my mists in another drawer.
It has taken me a long time to find something that works and I'm pretty happy with it overall although there are still areas that could do with some tweaking.

If I ever want to use them for layering or clustering I can easily pull them out to look for the right piece.

If you were to look at the mess that is my scrap room, you would say I'm not organized. But actually I am. My stamps are very organized because I have so many. Unmounted stamps are in CD cases or DVD cases and are cataloged. I probably have five or six different catalogs, separated into themes. The DVD cases and CD cases are numbered so if I look at the catalog I can find the stamps is late. Card stock is organized by Roy G biz. And pattern paper is organized by either color or theme, such as floral, plaid, Christmas, etc. for things that I scrap a lot, I use Iris cases to hold all the papers and embellishments and pictures that I have for that theme. For instance, I am going to Africa soon and have an iris case and which I've been putting titles papers things that I've already found. I also have an iris case for zoo and zoo animals because I visit zoos a lot. Small embellishments like brads and buttons are kept together and I sort through them as I need them. I have art bin cases for metal dies that are organized by topic. And then I have a CD file case that holds my general shapes likes ovals and rectangles and squares. I have learned that I am much better at maintaining organization if I only have to put things back to a general place. If I have to put them back into a specific place it probably will not happen
