I'm not a Comey fan, but man, was he ever a perfect witness.
Now I guess I have to get to work.

This is very entertaining....but nothing will come of it. Trump didn't do anything wrong (according to his allies). He simply stated that Flynn was a good guy, the exact same thing he said to the media. WE see the impropriety, but Republicans will deflect and dismiss. Look at all the stuff they (and a large portion of the American people) have already ignored. Just add this to the big pile of crap. He really wasn't joking when he said he could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot someone....

WTF with McCain's line of questioning? Exactly what I was thinking! Me too. I tuned in late and was wondering if I missed something. Email server - concluded. Russia - not.

Exactly what I was thinking! Me too. I tuned in late and was wondering if I missed something. Email server - concluded. Russia - not. I understand the thoughts that the Republicans will cover DT and themselves.... I think McCain might be having issues... As well as the confusion on the emails, he used Comey's name several times when he talking about Trump.... Even to the point of saying, "President Commm ..... President Trump" This is going to become a much bigger mess as the days pass... Unfortunately it will probably take a long time to happen.

was that Senator McCain? was he sitting in for someone? He's not listed as a member of the committee in the LA Times article that I found about the members of the committee who were questioning Comey. I started listening to it in the car this morning on my way to work, and HATED that I had to miss part of it to go to a meeting. Comey is soooo forthright and concise with his answers; I didn't know much about him before, but you can definitely tell he feels very strongly that the FBI needs to be- and is- independent.
(I only listened to npr, I didn't watch) At the very beginning when he gave his remarks, he sounded almost choked up when he was telling the FBI employees how sorry he was that he didn't get a chance to say goodbye to them in person, and how much he had liked working with them. Listening to that, and hearing him talk about not even finding out in person that he lost his job, shows JUST how shitty Trump is as a leader or even as a decent human being. (and that's totally aside from all of Trump's Russia / obstructionist nonsense.)

WTF with McCain's line of questioning? He made no sense. To me he was getting two different investigations all mixed up as one.

Senator McCain made absolutely no sense. How could he not understand that one investigation is complete and the other still unfinished. What a stupid line of questioning.

I was expecting Senator McCain to ask "hard" questions that other Republican would not but WTF? Clinton is NOT in the government right now and Trump is the POTUS that's why it is important for the ongoing investigation. Can we let the Clinton emails go NOW?!! Paul Ryan is ridiculous in his defence of President Trump.

the disgusting thing about this is that Trump will spin it as a victory for HIMSELF. he will rely on the technicality that HE is not under investigation. never mind that his staff may be under investigation but just as long as HE is not being actively investigated right now, that is what he will focus on. if push comes to shove, he will throw any or all of his people under the bus to save himself. the sad thing is that HE is who the republican party is scrambling to save.not themselves. not their constituents. not the country.

In my life I cannot imagine being that calm, composed, and confident of what I was saying while testifying. And certainly not under those circumstances! Talk about testifying under fire...wow!

While I am glad he is testifying, he had all this information before being fired. If he was using it to build a rock solid case, great. If he was holding it to use as the ace in the hole, then I don't find that to be upstanding. I Want this to lead to trumps undoing, but without more evidence, I do not find this man to be a hero. I think he fucked with politics during the election year and may have been instrumental in Trump being elected. Trying to right that wrong does not elevate him imo. It puts him where he should have been all along. That said, he is cool and collected and I can appreciate that. I believe he did what he or anyone else was supposed to do in his position--tell your superiors, remain and do the job he was hired to do. I don't think he's fucking with anyone, nor do I think he's "trying to right a wrong". His testimony today has NOTHING to do with the election.

okay, I'm finally listening to the very end of his testimony, and Senator McCain really doesn't know what he's talking about, does he? how can he be confused about why conclusions can be reached in one investigation but not another?
eta: omg, McCain just said 'well, I think there's a double-standard, there...' REALLY?? He needs to just retire, too.

He needs to retire and I am sorry if this comes off as rude or stereotyping but senators need to just fucking retire afterr they hit a certain age. This is ridiculous.

Comey describing the news media..."I was worried it would be like feeding seagulls at the beach." Now that's funny right there! Indeed Can you imagine how hot it is in that room right now?? I'd be wearing my tie with a tank top lol

I liked the analogy one member used when she said, as a fellow former prosecuting attorney, that when you meet a man with a gun in a dark alley and he says "I hope you'll give me your wallet", your focus is not on the word *hope*.

Pertinent question: Seems to me Trump was trying to access what he perceived to be a back door to the FBI via Comey. It was wholly improper. As much of a bumbling idiot as Trump is, did he even know that he shouldn't be doing that? That he had completely dismissed protocol and put Comey in a really bad position by singling him out with private conversations the way he did?
And why didn't Comey speak up at the time? I'm very sure he was intimidated and that he was so intimidated that he was stunned into immobility may be the best evidence that the conversations with Trump weren't exactly friendly and innocent.
However, Trump turns out to be right when he asserted that he had been told three times that he, himself, was not under investigation by the FBI which does lend some credibility regarding his intentions.
My point is, either Trump is ignorant of the protocols of office or he knows them but is purposefully trying to subvert them.
It's easy for me to imagine that Trump (who is not a politician), with his narcissistic tendencies, would try to bully what he perceived to be the power behind the FBI, the man who can make things happen the way he wants them to happen without regard for existing protocols that ensure the integrity of both the Executive office and the Dept of Justice. I think he's ignorant enough to completely miss the nuances and arrogant enough to think it wouldn't matter. <--this makes him a bumbling, conceited idiot.
It's also easy for me to imagine that maybe he knows exactly what he's doing and the effect it can/will have. Maybe this is all just a giant circus to distract everyone from something more insidious going on behind the scenes. <---that is far more worrying to me as the former can be forgiven (with significant political cost), the other will likely never be known.
