My son in law took my grandson(11.5yo) in for his 6th grade physical today. The doctor said that he has a testical that hasn't dropped and a mass on the other one. He goes the first of next wee to the hospital for an ultrasound and to a urologist the following week.
We are worried, as we have never dealt with anything like this. Does anyone have any experience with this or any info that might help us?
Thanks so much.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We went to the urologist today. GS has a floating testicle that the doctor was surprised the pediatrician didn't catch and a large hernia that is pushing(or pulling, not sure) on his bowel. He will have to have surgery for the hernia. My daughter will talk with the surgeon tomorrow and find out more about the surgery then.
Thank you all for your continued prayers and positive thoughts.
I have no insight but sending good thoughts for him and the rest of the family while you all wait to see what's going on.
What did the doctor say about the mass? Could it possibly be a hydrocele?
I don't have any experience with this but I can understand why you would be worried. I hope everything turns out to be ok.
My son in law didn't really ask any questions(I know, I know!). The doctor said that we shouldn't assume that it is cancer, but it could be a posiblility. Couldn't really be any more vague.
Your son in law was likely shocked. Prayers for your family.
My husband and I are just sick over the thoughts of what could be, but we are trying not to dwell on it. He is otherwise very healthy, although he does have to urinate a lot.
That happened with my DS, but he was a few years younger. It all turned out to be nothing. DH checked DS that night and said he saw two of the boys, that it all looked fine to him. We saw a urologist and yup, they were both present.
I have no idea why the ped thought there was only one. But it is very rare for there to be two all along and then for one to disappear at an older age. So the odds are on your side.
I have a friend whose son had one undescended testicle, but it was found out reply early. I think he was about 18 months old. It was done outpatient, I'm pretty sure they were home within a few hours. I'll be thinking positive thoughts for your family!
My boss's son had an undescended testicle but it was a diagnosis made when he was an infant. Try not to worry too much. Good thoughts coming your way.
