Ok, folks. I think I'm way too sheltered. Yesterday I got off the commuter train and walked to the hospital shuttle. The shuttle picks you up in an area that is full of homeless folks, many who are addicts or mentally ill. My first thought is that these people need support and help ,but there aren't enough resources. My second thought is that I really don't like playing step-over-the-wino. Anyway, I was standing in the usual shuttle spot waiting for my ride and two guys were shooting up. A police officer pulled up and talked to them, while looking at me like I was crazy for standing there. After 1/2 hour I found out that the shuttle location moved to a better street. Guess, I'll never know what it was like to have my fix.
On another note, I had an interesting doc appt. As most of you probably know I have a gastric pacemaker. Well, the battery died 3 years earlier than anticipated. That means the thing was in almost constant use. Now I need surgery to have it replaced. It's just a simple overnight thing, but I have upcoming surgery for another device and now I have to fit them both into my oh-so-fun summer schedule. Plus, I'm still having my tube issue and my neuro-gi (ya, that's a thing) ordered some more thorough tests than the yocal locals here. Stick a fork in me. I'm done.
As for dinner, that's the least of my concerns today. I'm just exhausted after yesterday and dinner will likely be leftovers or tacos.
What's on your menu?
Now, onto more interesting and happy stuff. We have to continue planning the I DO BBQ. The debate yesterday was macaroni vs. potato salad. Which would you serve? I would serve both, but my dh's aunt makes the best macaroni salad on the face of the planet. I'd lean that way. What about you?
Have a happy Friday and a super fun and relaxing weekend.

My city has a river trail for walking. I love to walk it, but I absolutely won't go without DH because there are so many homeless people along there. I feel so sorry for the homeless. Especially those who are mentally ill. How different my life could be without treatment. I have incredible empathy for them. But I admit, I'm scared too.
DH didn't have to work today so I told him he was responsible for dinner. I am taking my cat to the vet after work tonight. My one cat does not have microchip and she's been just trying to bust out the door. So I finally made an appointment to have her chipped just in case she manages to get out. I assume DH is going to make spaghetti. There's only a few things he can make and even less food at home right now as I haven't been to the store in a week either.

scrapmaven you are amazing ~ always so upbeat and positive. I always remember the poem, Lord Forgive Me When I Whine and it humbles me and makes me realize how blessed I am. So I won't even complain about the 104 degrees predicted today. Not sure what's on tap. We have to go to Costco this morning. We found some awesome bar stools there but we need 3 and they only had one in a box plus the display. The display was fine so we took it and the one in the box. They have 20 more arriving any day. When we got them home we realized we need the shorter version (they can adjust up or down using a *spare* set of 4 legs. Well, the display one is tall so we don't have the short legs and I'm sure they aren't sitting around waiting for us at Costco. Probably got thrown out.

I think we may go out. It has been awhile since we have all gone out to eat. When I was little, we took a trip to New Jersey to visit my mom's friend. While there we took a trip to New York City. I was scared to death!! Tall buildings, homeless people on the streets. Not my thing, we were from a small town! I still have no desire to go back. LOL We will take daughter to her aunt's house on Saturday to spend the next 12ish days with her mom. And we will say "up north" for the night at his brother's house, with the dogs. Should be a fun 3 hour ride. I shall have a cocktail when we arrive. My vote for yesterday was potato salad My sister would vote for macaroni salad So I say serve both!

The debate yesterday was macaroni vs. potato salad. Which would you serve? Assuming both those salads are being made with mayo, I would serve neither. I would serve a pasta-vegetable salad and/or a potato salad with a non-mayo dressing. Speaking of pasta-vegetable salad, we're having a family thing tonight and that's what I am in charge of, as well as the cake. Not sure what else will be served, but I'll have enough pasta salad and cake to serve everyone, so even if there's nothing else, no one will starve. cadoodlebug, I would 'like' your post a millions times if I could. Well said!

Yes, scrapmaven , I also admire your "chin up" attitude! It's a fend for yourself Friday night for dinner. Leftovers are definitely available.

What about you? I would go with auntie's macaroni salad - I really miss pasta salad here, as I can so easily buy so many types of potato salad, but I have to make pasta salad from scratch. Tonight's dinner here was asian-marinated salmon, with potato salad and a mixed salad. I had some mixed heritage tomatoes, which made it really yummy - just a bit different from the regular tomatoes.

I'm going to make chili rice with the remaining ground beef. No oven required ... I cook it in the electric skillet. It's supposed to be even hotter today than yesterday. Plus a salad if the lettuce is still good, or else mixed steamed veggies. scrapmaven, I'm sorry your insides are acting up! I would generally vote for potato salad (with or without mayo), but if you call the macaroni salad "pasta salad" instead, I'm more likely to eat it and like it.

Leftovers for DH and myself. DS is visiting friends, DD ate at her friend's house, so I didn't have to feed them. And now we're going to find the Pikachu with a hat. (No, I obviously don't have a life, lol).

I'm still painting my bathroom. There's an area in the roof peak of the 2 story part that I cannot reach on any ladder. It's driving me crazy. I can't think about cooking so we are going out.
I love our path along the river. It too had a homeless camp until recently. A man stabbed another homeless woman to death. None of the others intervened because they thought it was just rough sex. The city recently opened a bigger shelter and cleared it out.

Tonight is the wedding we came to Vermont to attend. I think there were beef and chicken options for dinner and I think dh chose one of each for us. I'm happy with whatever he doesn't want. I'm planning to consume alcohol too.

Photobucket took away my avatar so I had to come up with a new one. It's still me!! I think it's too small, I will work on that tonight from my ipad.
scrapmaven you had quite an adventure yesterday!! I'm sorry you are having to do more procedures. You really do have a great attitude and have such a positive spirit.
Dinner tonight is probably going to be take out. Dh is going out of town on a job today. Kait works until 6 and then might be hanging out with friends.
Thanks you guys for you opinions on the I DO BBQ... I REALLY appreciated it!
I had coffee with my girlfriend yesterday and she thinks I should do both pasta/macaroni salad and potato salad. She offered to come over and give me a hand. Also I have a friend coming in from Oklahoma the week of the wedding and she also offered to help me out. So with all this extra help we should be able to whip up some really great food and have this BBQ be a great success!!

Oh scrapmaven ... you have a great spirit I'll admit that I have felt unsafe in both downtown Vancouver and Seattle because of the homeless/drug people ... I needed to get out of those areas fast ... I was freaked out My vote for the salads is macaroni and potato ... love them both Today is the first day we are going to the Calgary Stampede ... me, dh, and dd#2 will hit the midway at about 3pm which means a corndog for my dinner ... the only time I eat corndogs is at the Stampede so I can't wait There will also be mini donuts, cotton candy and whatever midway food dh and dd want to eat

For those who haven't ever seen the poem I was referencing, here it is:
Today, upon a bus, I saw a lovely girl with golden hair, I envied her…she seemed so gay…and wished I were as fair. When suddenly she rose to leave, I saw her hobble down the aisle; She had one leg and wore a crutch; But as she passed…a smile! Oh, God forgive me when I whine, I have two legs. The world is mine!
I stopped to buy some candy. The lad who sold it had such charm. I talked with him He seemed so glad. If I were late ‘twould do no harm. And as I left he said to me, “I thank you. You have been so kind. It’s nice to talk with folks like you. You see,” he said, “I’m blind.” Oh, God, forgive me when I whine, I have two eyes. The world is mine.
Later, while walking down the street, I saw a child with eyes of blue. He stood and watched the others play. He did not know what to do. I stopped a moment, then I said, “Why don’t you join the others, dear?” He looked ahead without a word, and then I knew he could not hear. Oh, God forgive me when I whine. I have two ears. The world is mine.
With feet to take me where I’d go, with eyes to see the sunset’s glow, With ears to hear what I would know…Oh, God forgive me when I whine. I’m blessed indeed. The world is mine.

We have leftover pizza, breadsticks and salad to have again tonight.
As for potato salad vs macaroni salad, potato salad makes me nervous - I'm always worried about over or undercooking the potatoes. I do love it though. I also love macaroni salad.
Now, for the next question, in my world, macaroni salad is mayo based, pasta salad is not. Is that the same for you?

scrapmaven she is one of my all time favourite Peas for so many reasons! I understand shrimp were bought so for the WIN here. We all can agree they taste great. I am making some angel hair pasta, asparagus and salad. If I can get a ripe avocado, then we will have that, too.

Let me also pat scrapmaven on the back for her scrappy attitude! (See what I did there?) I keep you in my thoughts and close to my heart hoping your health problems sort themselves out so you can sample the wonderful dinners you cook for the others in your household.............. cadoodlebug are you guys sure you do not need the taller stools for when your son comes to stay? That is too bad about the shorter legs on the one stool, I also would assume they had been tossed which is too bad and such a waste. Can you return the stool without the shorter legs when they get more in the store? The Birdhouse Lady I would agree that you need both kinds of salad at your I Do BBQ. It sounds like you have help which is wonderful. It sounds like a fun time with your friends right there helping you even though it will be work, extra helping hands and all the jazz........ For our dining pleasure this evening we will once again have some sort of food.......either chicken or fish. Some sort of fruit and the only vegetable I have is carrots. So we will be dining on fish or chicken, peaches or mandarin oranges, and carrots.......LOL! I need to go to the grocery store after supper and forage for the coming weekend and week, since we will only be fixing one family dinner this week instead of many the groceries should last longer into the week......... Happy happy Friday Everybody!

Can you return the stool without the shorter legs when they get more in the store? Yes, we'll just return the display model and they can sell it to someone who needs a taller one. The problem is the clearance between the seat and the bottom of the bar. It isn't comfortable as there isn't enough room. Oh yes, that is a knee wacker waiting to happen. ....But that is one nice looking bar stool/chair. It goes really well with the furniture I can see in the background.

It does go well with our other furniture and they are a heck of a buy at $89 each!

I went to the store and got some vegetables as there was nothing in the fridge. It seems we shop daily rather than for two or three days at a time. I don't know why this is. It's like we are still living in limbo while my mother was ill. We are also a divided front in that one person can't get vegetables to eat. I.e. protein is bought but vegetables are not.
One thing that concerns me is I am hearing the same stories over and over. I don't mind listening to them, but my spidey sense is starting to ping that he has told me the same thing so many times. He is totally coherent, but the same stories over and over. He isn't stressed out about anything. He keeps a totally normal schedule. He doesn't take benzdiazepines which can cause memory loss yet the repetition is happening.

Best of luck with all the poking you have to go through this summer, scrapmaven. I don't know if you are a Big Brother watcher, but one of the housemates this year has a gastric pacemaker (Raven). I agree that macaroni salad is mayo heavy and very little else added (celery and ?) and we prefer a pasta salad, heavy on the vegetables, with a vinaigrette type dressing. Tonight I'm going to make a taco filling with ground beef & turkey and everyone can decide whether they want salad or tortillas.
