IF you let her in---no to any luggage, no to any clothing--yes, she'll have to strip down outside and put on something you have for her, and I'd send her to the shower IMMEDIATELY.
No to her shoes, .........those bedbugs are awful and can hop a ride into your house.
I would not even let her in for a cup of coffee without the aforementioned precautions.

I would never knowingly allow someone in my house who has bedbugs.

I have a buddy in pest control (a good friend) and I would ask him what I should do to prevent my house from getting infested and if he thought her visiting was a good idea. He will tell me the truth. This is a great idea... we just made a major move and we have a pest guy because he did an inspection for us, he does bedbug remediation so I think I will call him and get his advice. I don't think it's going to happen anyway though, my husband is out of his mind about this. He was at their house last week... he was the one that found the bugs, his stuff is still sitting in a scorching hot car in the sun until the steamer he ordered on Amazon arrives today and he can pressure steam everything in the car plus th car itself. This is how he feels about it and our relative who wishes to visit is on his side of the family. Grown man petrified of these bugs, and I get it. Relative saw bugs during the day which I guess is the worst possible sign. Husband is devastated to think he needs to tell family not to come until this is fixed. Tears have been shed.

How do you know when you get bed bugs? Do you see them? Do they bite? When we lived in San Diego many moons ago, our duplex neighbors had fleas. We got our first puppy and within a couple of days she was covered in them. We could not get rid of them no matter what we did because the neighbors would have to treat their place at the same time and we were just not close. We moved to Texas a few months later. Had our dog dipped at the vet/groomer then traveled with her immediately without taking her back into the flea infested duplex. She stayed with my mom. Fleas still got into my mom's house. Maybe the fleas were in our things, I don't know. There was a place called CareFlea who treated my mom's place then our new home before we even moved in. Never saw a flea again until about 20 years later.l I hate fleas and now this bedbug talk is scaring me! Young bedbugs are very small and hard to see. Older ones become a bit larger and you can see them, you usually discover them because you're being bitten in a characteristic pattern different than fleas or mosquitoes, and if you see them by day you have a big problem. My biggest fear is I am in school based leadership... I spend my days with teachers and librarians developing curriculum, I work in a cluster and there are eleven schools I could infect if I got bedbugs. That is what I sometimes call a professionally limiting scenario.
