I need to call on the massive amounts of Pea creativity, please. My mom and I recently bought a vacation home in FL (Bonita Springs, to be exact). You may recall my "small world" post a couple of months ago about meeting a woman one street over who grew up in the same house I did, 1400 miles away.
We've noticed that many homes in the area have names, and I'd love to do that too. And I have a couple of thoughts, but I've seen the Peas in action on naming things before, and I want in on the action. Sadly, our place isn't on the water, but we are only about 10 minutes from the beach. I love to shell--I rarely sit when I'm on the beach--I'm out looking for finds. And it so happens that my first name is Michelle. So having "shell" in the name might be fun.
So--any thoughts?

I'd take the shell idea slightly laterally - instead of having the word shell in the name, I'd use the name of a type of shell found locally.
So maybe...

Is it new construction or older? We named our vacation house after the original owner from 1849. Otherwise, I prefer what jennyap said about naming it after a particular kind of shell rather than just "Shell Cottage."

I can hear you saying, "We're headed to The Shell-A for the weekend."

"Shells Wash Inn" maybe? Or maybe "Chelle's Wash Inn." Although that makes slightly less sense.
I also just wanted to say that I am a HUGE fan of shelling as well! We're completely landlocked but try to make it to the beach on a somewhat regular basis. I could (and have) spend all day just hunting for shells. It makes me so happy.

So other than a whole lot of Golden Girl-esque wallpaper (since removed), no history to speak of.

What color is it? i love "Silver Shells" if the house is gray. The outside isn't, but in fact we just painted most of the interior a pale gray. Hmmm...

Love that. Or My Shell Cottage Has anyone named one that you were thinking of yet ? No one has named one I thought of (ya'll are so creative). I'm loving these, and several in particular, but I won't single them out just yet. I'm doing a bunch of chores today so I'm kind of turning these options around in my head. And running them by my mom, too. Keep them coming, pretty please.

Before I opened the thread and saw your post, "Time Away" popped into my head, even though it's really not the type of name most people choose for homes/houses/cottages.
But in keeping with that idea, maybe Shell Time or Shell Retreat or Shell Haven.

I love jingle! I didn't know this was a name for a shell. I would probably call it the Jingle Bell, and hang an old brass bell outside. 😄

For 20 years, my parents had gone to a lake resort, and stayed mostly in a cabin called Happy Hours. Then, across the bay we bought a house and my parent named it Happy Hours. They also named their boat Happy Hours.
Is there something in the area that you have been drawn to, that you could use as a name like this? A favorite restaurant, common street name, favorite shop you visit, or even something from back home to make the connection?
