I used to be able to, but I haven't ridden a bike since college (almost 20 years! shit!), so I couldn't say if I could still go hands-free.

I can't ride a bicycle, period.
I never learned.

No, sadly I cannot. I also cannot push my sparkle purple Stingray a few steps, put my left foot on the pedal and swing my other leg over the seat while rolling. Not cool enough.
But I did have streamers hanging from my hand grips!

I couldn't pop a wheelie, either.

I was too much of a chicken to pop a wheelie, but I definitely rode no hands. Like lumo, I'd be afraid to try. Ask me how I almost broke my nose trying to do a cartwheel about 10 years ago. Never occurred to me that I hadn't put any more muscle on my arms, therefore there was no way they were going to hold all the weight I had put on. Seriously scared the crap outta myself!

I doubt I could do it now but I could when I was younger. But not very often.
But how cool is this - My dd is learning how to ride a *unicycle*!

I've never tried. That always seemed too risky to me.

Yes I can. Took lots of hours on the bike to get perfect balance. This is on my road bike with skinny tires also.

I used to have great balance. Now I would worry that I am going to break a hip. Gotta love growing older.

I did as a kid. For a long way. And I could even turn corners without holding the handlebars. Now? I would never even try!!

I used to until I got into a collision with another cyclist. I was probably about 9. Ended up with a pretty bad concussion. I've been terrified to try it ever since. Oh, and this was back in the day when nobody wore helmets.

Once upon a time I could. It's all a matter of balance and knowing where your center of gravity is.

Last time I tried, yes (but that would have been 35+ years ago). You need the magic combination of speed & balance for it to work.

Last time I did was 25 or so years ago ... I was 15 and it was a moonless summer night, going fast down a hill. I lost control and flipped off. Landed on my elbow and broke my collar bone. so, I haven't done it since then!

Yes, but the wheels on my bike are only 20", fat tires and low to the ground. I can also do a wheely and an endo which is the rear tire up, and could drop in off of ramps at the skate/bike park which I have not done in a about 8 years since I was about 50. I get little tiny airs on the BMX track and do track/gate stands as long as needed. I can also do bar spins, short ones. Again, I ride BMX race, freestyle and flatland bikes, small bikes and no distance riding. All balance, speed for short BMX track racing and some tricks and lots of technique.

When I was younger I oould but I'd be too scared to try now. I used to be able to skate crouched down with one leg out too going down a hill...so fun!
I got each of my teens a unicycle a few Christmases ago. DS was about 12 at the time and he was able to ride it down the street. DD 15 at the time did ok on it too.
There's a guy around here that rides a large unicycle all over the place.

I could ride forever without holding the handlebars when i was younger. I remember holding a slurpee in one hand and I think a doughnut in the other, blissly riding and achieving the ultimate sugar high. I did try it lat year and still could go hands free but didn't want to chance it for long. I know the risks involved now haha.

When I was a kid and tried this I thought I was pretty good at it - until it went wrong and I crashed into a lamppost at speed and came off worst!! I never did that again and definitely wouldn't try it now!!

this question came up recently on a women's cycling forum. I had not ridden without hands in years. I was out with my boys and they were doing it, so i tried and was happy to learn that I still can.
There was a woman on that other board who could ride figure eights without hands.
