Olan said: You all hate me and I think a large number of you voted for 45 and basically ruined the world. If we all hate her, why does she come here? And IDGAF what anyone thinks of me. I asked Olan that very question and her response was basically that nobody will run her off and if she chooses to be here and I don't like it to ignore her. it's all a power trip.

I think I need a break. And no, this is not a hair flip and I'm not going to delete my name. But I definitely don't want to continue to come to a place that makes me feel uncomfortable to be black, something I did not choose to be. And I've said for MONTHS there are people and posts here that are causing that feeling over and over. Nothing has changed and I deserve to go somewhere I don't constantly feel uncomfortable. I've been here since 2001 and I feel this board is the most political than it has ever been. I just don't like it and I know myself well enough to know I need to remove myself from it all for a while. I need new perspective. So enjoy guys! I've taken a break before a longgggg time ago and it was beneficial so I hope this one will be too. I wish you all the best, Dani, and will be looking forward to your return. If anything I've said has come across as offensive, please know that it was unknowing and accept my deepest apologies.

FTR, I don't hate her. Just trying to understand her perspective. But I also don't get a flip about what others think of me. I learned long ago not to post anything here that could haunt me later. I see people here all the time say they tell others about things said with the peas, or do polls here, or share stories from here. Heck, sometimes when talking to somebody IRL I'll say something like "a friend of mine said" when really it was somebody here (so I don't have to explain who you all are, lol). Pea conversations could come up for any number of reasons. So the fact that Olan said she likes things to be able to recall / find them later doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Am I the only one who doesn't really pay attention to who likes my posts?? I am so glad to be so confused and I really don't care. Once and awhile I see a pea friend like my posts but for the most part, I read a post, I might or might not comment and move on.. so easy to do. Half the time I don't even know who is posting unless I really recognize certain peas.. And off I go back into the real world.

I am too -- and I am a white woman. I have no issue with Olan because regardless of how many people claim that she instigated it, is unreasonable etc.,the fact is the moment people take her words on a personal level and take such offense at her words, they are the ones who shut down dialogue and assume things can't be so bad because they like black people. I personally find it offensive that peas didn't just accept her experience and focused more on defending themselves and their ancestors. She as a single black woman does not need to provide the answers for us white folk. The onus is on us to be active and respectful of African American people and culture. It's always good to take a break -- I'm off to Europe so I won't be keeping up with the recipe as. Take care dani-Mani

And she admitted to and denied in the same paragraph that she was tracking peas! She's not tracking them, just liking them so she can more easily pull them out to show NON-peas the threads (same as tracking/compiling...) Take responsibility for your own hatefulness Olan, you're quick to blame anyone else. I'm confused...I didn't vote for 45, so I think I'm clear on the ruining the world thing, amiright? Some key words to take from Olan's response here. TO DIRECT NON PEAS TO SPECIFIC THREADS Olan is showing our site to non peas who then target us off site. Ahhhh..this is not right. She is tracking Ps posts, so she can DIRECT them to NON pes?? WTF??? This is the big reason so many of us don't post on here anymore. Or have formed off-shoot groups with people we trust. If she's trying to kill this forum, she's doing a good job. Is there anyway we can start to close the forum down to the public? I don't feel comfortable with someone saying that to us. I'm sure plenty of non-peas peruse this site on a daily basis. It's public and registration isn't required to read. I don't understand the outrage. How is Olan discussing something she saw here any different than one of us discussing it with our husbands or non-pea friends? This isn't Fight Club. I agree with Olan on some things, and disagree with her about others. But it doesn't bother me one whit that she would talk with her non-pea friends and mention something she read here. I don't understand why that would make you so "uncomfortable."

Damn this thread is bumming me out. I love to come here and chat, encourage when needed, find out about recipes, mourn when there is a loss, laugh at a funny post, discuss politics, and buy things that I had no idea that I wanted(Instant Pot). I don't have a beef with either pea. But it makes me sad and nervous when I read some of the accusations. This is the case of one pea's story vs the other and the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. And I'm not meaning to say that someone is lying. It's just that they see it only on their side. The rest of us who aren't involved are just on the sidelines trying to form an opinion. I don't know, because I'm just learning about this issue. I'm rambling. But it's just making me want to post less. For the record, I like posts because I either agree with them, or want them to know that I read their comment, or you know, just like their comment.

I understand your need to take a break, but please know that many of us will miss you and hope you return soon. On a side note, like someone else mentioned, I have slowed down my visits and posts because of the change in the board. I try not to post on any thread Olan is on. Everything isn't about race like she wants to make it out to be and I'm tired of my words being twisted into something they weren't. I also didn't vote for 45 and I sure as heck don't need to even see 6 to 8 threads about him on the front page every time I visit. I wish the block feature was working for threads like it does for posts Olan has specifically said she likes posts so she can show them to other people to show them how racist we are. That is not what we 'think' she said, or someone's side of the story, that is what she has said herself on why she likes posts. She doesn't like what was said in the post, she likes the post so she can find it later.

Anyone can join this forum, close it down to the public ffs! there are a LOT of forums that are closed to the general public. There's nothing wrong with that. it's not oversharing - it's sharing at all it sounds like you are laying blame where it doesn't belong I'm not meaning to put all the blame on Olan. she is just one of a few wacky Ps that are doing these mean things to others. It just brought it to light again. We used to have pages and pages of new threads every day. now we have one page. People are scared to post on here.

I am a tad confused by some of the discussion on this thread and am wondering why I am even giving it any time to try to figure it all out. I read posts that catch my attention, steering well clear of the ones marked political. I love that those are tagged. Some love them, I do not. Much like you workingclassdog, I recognize certain peas, mostly the ones that don't make me tense:) This board is an escape from the real life and sometimes (lately), it fails so I return to the normal world and turn on music:) Life is too short for such strife.

There seem to be lots of new threads every day. Every single thread has something like 10x the number of views than the number of posts. We all need to remember that anyone could be reading anything we put on here. It's up to us as individuals how much we share and whether that includes anything identifiable. How would closing the forum to non members help? Because I'm sure there are plenty of people registered who don't post. How would we 'vet' new people? You simply can't. That's why it's on each individual to decide how much they want to post and share.

I know for a fact I can not post things on here, that I would have posted in the past. There are people that have left the board because of it. Hence why new boards will be formed more and more, and less posting and members here. look forward to more...what's for dinner, share your favorite zucchini recipe, and should I eat this threads.

I can't remember the specifics of both, but one was a family Birthday party, the second was about a photographer maybe? After those instances many peas said they would be much more careful about what was posted here for fear someone would search out the real life people and let them know what was said about them.

I think that it's a good reminder that wherever you are online, it's a good idea to leave a light footprint and not to overshare. I remember one pea who overshared and some whackjob called her place of employment. Most of us know this already, of course, because we've seen it happen to others.

I never said it caused them that much anxiety. and a lot have found other places. why not find a safer place to post then here? Vs the hassle on here sometimes, And yes, some people don't want that. I always like a little debate, so I'm still hanging in here.

That's what I post on, and share with.
