I couldn't read all seven pages but from what I've gathered liking someones post is now abusive and bullying behavior. Calling someone a crazy bitch however is not. Listen I've got the memo. I've tried to allay fears regarding what nefarious reason would cause me to "like" new and old posts and will continue to like posts as I see fit. This is a public message board.
For those who say I shut down dialogue:
You can't insult me and then expect I engage you in a friendly manner.
You can disagree with what I'm saying and still move on with your life. I disagree with a lot of the things I see here and yet I still had a great restorative weekend with family. That shouldn't be described as shutting down dialogue that just means I'm not going to entertain bullshit. I think Steve Urbanski should be charged with a hate crime and you don't. *shrugs* I think Beyonce/Oprah/Simone/Simone/Serena hate is really white women hating to see black women win but you disagree.
Much like zingermack(sp) or librarylady(sp) I post articles I think the peas should know about. Ignore those threads if current events bother you. You could also call me a crazy bitter racist bitch like everyone else and go visit another thread! Am I missing something?

She doesn't want dialogue..that is the issue. She wants to lecture all of us on how we are responsible for our ancestors and all whites are racist in one way or another; whether we say we aren't. She wants to paint herself a victim without being victimized ON THIS BOARD. SHe holds us ALL responsible for her feelings and reactions.
Gina is right, it's a shit show and it's not worth it.

You know Olan, I have been in my fair share of shit shows over the years in regards to Muslims and Palestinian threads. You HAVE to have thick skin to put your opinions out in the public air because not everyone is going to think like you. But if you really want to make a difference to your cause, insulting people isn't the way to go. You have now lumped all of us "white women" together as having costumes. You don't know me and how I work hard in my life to combat racism. Makes me more apt to disregard your posts all together.

And, if I remember correctly, he still may be charged with that, but they haven't finished evaluating. YOU are the one making it sound like they WON'T charge him, and assuming that we all don't think he should be. Not accurate. Disliking a particular person doesn't necessarily have anything to do with their race. While it may be a factor for some people, you are making a huge sweeping assumption that it is always BECAUSE of their race and white women not wanting black women to win. If you really want a discussion and true dialogue, you could come at it differently. All-inclusive generalizations do nothing to encourage people to engage in real thoughtful discussion. |

I have thoroughly enjoyed engaging with her over the years. I have been puzzled by the stridency of her posts lately, but I'd still hate to see her go. |

All threads can be marked political by any pea regardless of content or who authored the thread. My threads are always marked politics by another pea. I have to go back and change it. Bumping it will help and we already know how much zookeeper and the peas hate when I like a comment or bookmark a thread. It was something like 9 pages total, I think. I know it's not as dramatic as bumping the thread, but I hope it helps you. |

Fair point. I'm allowing my personal opinion of you as someone who enjoys creating drama influence my response. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but I'll at least own up to my opinion. I'm going to validate your opinion of it being dramatic in this case - she could have just as easily sent a direct link to her friends that would have been just as effective at getting them here, if not easier. The Peas would have been none the wiser as the thread would have remained buried on page 20-something. Instead, she bumps the thread with a note that she's doing it for her off-board friends to find it easier on page 1. Of course it's dramatic, anyone who's followed the boards this summer knows what this thread is about, and followed it. When it's all of a sudden bumped a month or two later, of course they're going to come in and see why. |
