www.nytimes.com/2017/07/21/us/politics/sean-spicer-resigns-as-white-house-press-secretary.html" Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, resigned on Friday morning, telling President Trump he vehemently disagreed with the appointment of the New York financier Anthony Scaramucci as communications director. Mr. Trump offered Mr. Scaramucci the job at 10 a.m. The president requested that Mr. Spicer stay on, but Mr. Spicer told Mr. Trump that he believed the appointment was a major mistake, according to person with direct knowledge of the exchange."

I can't blame him. Trump has made it impossible to present a cohesive image as he goes and tweets the opposite almost immediately upon releasing statements
Hope the man finds some peace.

I predict that no one will EVER last more than a year in the Trump administration. He will fire them or they will quit. Because he is a child. He has absolutely no attention span. He talks big but doesn't actually DO anything. He plays people against each other. He listens to advice from one person one day and thinks it is the GREATEST, and then listens to completely contrary advice the next day and thinks IT is the greatest.
How many people have quit his team just TODAY? I count 2 so far...
The only person that will stick with him long term is...wait for it...Putin. He plays the long game.

Ahh...I see Jared and ivanka think very highly of him. Does anyone else feel like our country is actually being run by a 36-year old entitled rich kid?

hahaha! I shouldn't laugh, I know... but I wondered how long it would be before he'd quit.
I absolutely agree wtih this: Trump has made it impossible to present a cohesive image as he goes and tweets the opposite almost immediately upon releasing statements
Hopefully he'll realize after leaving that he's much better off out of there. The current White House administration has got to be a pretty toxic place to work, full of tension / backstabbing / etc. the way Trump runs things, by pitting people against each other the way he does.
eta: never heard of Anthony Scaramucci before, but it makes total sense why Trump would hire him, since he's a major Republican donor and a Trump loyalist.

I also wonder how many of the people working for him are hearing the stories that he's asking about pardons for himself, his family, and associates are thinking "I wonder why they would need pardons? I wonder if I'm going to get sucked into whatever it is that requires pardons? I wonder if he would pardon me if I did get sucked into it? My name is not Trump, nor am I a wealthy but shady business associate - so probably he wouldn't pardon me. I wonder if I would rather be out of work or looking at needing to hire some sort of defense attorney?"

Spicey went on Christian Broadcast Network - on video !!! "... But we’re not here to make it a spectacle either.... Spicer has appeared in the White House briefing room just once since late June, taking questions from reporters on Monday in an off-camera conference. The White House stopped holding on-camera briefings on June 29.... The hosts closed the segment with a question from CBN viewers: “They want to know how they can pray for you.” “Honestly, any time that someone says that they’re praying, that’s a very meaningful thing,” Spicer said. “I appreciate any and all of it.”” Perhaps this is the answer to their prayers. As is often the case w/answers to prayers, it's hard to tell.

He had no problem lying through his teeth and selling his soul to work for Trump - yet resigns over this?
Agree with what was posted above - maybe it's just an excuse so he can escape before the Russia shit really starts to go down.

What does Spicer do daily if he hasn't done a press conference in a month?

I can't believe it took half a year for Spicer to be out of that position. That's actually the most shocking part of this entire headline.

What does Spicer do daily if he hasn't done a press conference in a month? He had been doing the communications job as well as press secretary (even if he wasn't doing the daily briefings) and it seems that now he's upset someone else will have that Communications title even though the new person (Scaramucci) isn't qualified? Spicer feels that he will continue doing two jobs but not receiving the credit.

good question! I've wondered where he was for the past few weeks, too. Maybe someone has to be in charge of tryign to take Trump's phone away from him? lol.
ETA: I didn't realize he was doing the job of Communications Director. If he's going to have to still do the work because the new guy can't do the job?? I'd quit if I was in that position, too.
This is totally not on-topic, but I was reading some of the comments on the article and came across a couple good ones:
MAAA: Make America America Again
MANA: Make America Normal Again
"the Comb-over in Chief"
sort of back on topic- I heard last night on Rachel Maddow (I think) that the Watergate investigation took about 18 months start to finish, but this all seems to be moving so fast that it could be only 9 months to a year, for this one.

How does one defend the white houses image against the appearance of collusion when the 'boss' keeps hiring people under investigation and firing people Doug the investigating? Let alone defend the white houses image against actual collusion.

I have a feeling Spicer took the job thinking it was prestigious and things would die down. As each day went on he realized he was just digging himself into a deeper hole but if he climbed out, there'd be nothing for him on the solid ground. Who would hire him? What would be left of his career? Maybe he stayed on thinking it was his only option and at the end he could get a great book deal. The wrench that was tossed into that plan was prison- is it worth risking prison just because you don't have another job option? Do you risk prison for a headshot and a dust jacket? Or he honestly just could be completely fed-up with this crap and have hit his breaking point. These are all realistic and likely options for any human with even a fraction of a brain.

Last weekend, I watched a documentary about Watergate. I don't remember what channel it was on, but it was something I had recorded a few weeks ago. I will admit to not knowing a whole lot about Watergate, just what I learned in history class, as I was a young child when it actually happened. Watching that documentary was so eerie, and so many things that are happening now seem so similar to what happened then--Nixon firing the attorney general as well as others close to him on his staff, banning certain members of the press from the White House, etc. Then, I heard this morning on a news show I was watching that Nixon had also looked into seeing if it was possible to pardon himself. Eerie.

But it's not like Trump pulled a bait and switch on him - Trump's personality and MO have been pretty clear all along and Spicer still chose to take a job with him. And even if he thought that maybe it would somehow be different once Trump was president, from day one Spicer was lying about crowd sizes and continued to lie and and obfuscate and seemed to have no qualms about it.

Spicer feels that he will continue doing two jobs but not receiving the credit. I also read that he would have been reporting TO Scaramucci. I'd be pretty pissed if I'd been doing two jobs and they brought in someone unqualified in to do one of them and then made me report to them.
