Ok. My post is different than the others. This thread just brought up something that really annoys me.

I've been seeing lots of "reign in" in place of "rein in" right here at 2peasrefugees lately (mostly in reference to our illustrious president). It is REIN in, peaple. As in reining in a horse. Using the reins. Something else has been bugging the snot out of me lately, but I don't remember what. You'll be happy to hear, I will be back when it comes to me.

Awe is not the same as aw, aww, awww, etc.
Example: "Aw, poor little thing!"

Strips of fabric can be bias though I beg to differ   The fabric can't be bias....the direction of the weave on the fabric can be, but the fabric itself can't be, whichever way it's cut its called bias tape not biased tape. Unless every package I've ever had ever was wrong. I figured if I said tape someone would correct me to fabric 😜

Affect vs. effect is the one that makes me crazy. So many people get this one wrong.

Bias tape is stretchy because it's cut, as a basic description, from corner to corner from a piece of fabric. If you pull a square piece of cotton fabric as an example, from corner to corner it will stretch, if you pull is across the width, or from top to bottom it won't stretch!

Totally different meaning of the word. You keep trying to prove people wrong and are looking kind of silly the more you dig your heels in.

Would of/Should of. Drives me crazy. And for the love of all that's holy, you don't need an apostrophe S to make a regular noun plural!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I feel the need to add more. For the longest time my kids could not figure out the difference between many and much, even though I corrected them every time they'd say it incorrectly. They are teenagers now and I think have finally figured it out. And the grammar on this: The car needs fixed. No, the car needs to be fixed. Verbs are your friend.

So let me just say now that I apologize for all my screwed up language. I blame it on typing it like it sounds and being southern it's all drawled out. LOL Of course there is the fact that English was my worst subject and hasn't gotten better as I aged. I seriously have no idea what's correct grammer. I can't spell either, obviously. I'm a darned good engineer though, so it's a good thing we are not known for our common sense. ETA...How many screw ups did I make in this one post?

Immigrate and emigrate is another I see often used wrongly. You can't immigrate from anywhere.....the couple next door emigrated from Canada..... not the couple next door immigrated from Canada. You emigrate from a country when you leave and you immigrate to a country when you arrive. I am an English major and pride myself on using proper language skills. I'm a damn good speller, too. But... can I just admit that I did not really know the difference between these two words? That's pretty astounding considering how big an issue emigration/immigration IS these days. I hate admitting my previous ignorance, but there it is. Thank you for teaching me a little something this morning. The short cut way to recall the difference is that you immigrate TO, you emigrate FROM. The couple emigrated from Syria. They immigrated to Canada.

I once read a narrative piece that started 'wun supona time' - It took reading it aloud to decipher it! I taught first grade years ago. Holy crap, it was great that their writing pieces were so short. My teammates and I would end up in tears over the invented spellings. By the time they got to fifth grade, the tears were for a different reason. My favorite pieces to read were the "illegally" passed notes. Girls never seemed to be deterred from boys who had poor spelling.
