Well today is our day to shine. I did some googling and today is our day. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/0/left-handers-day-13-facts-wonderful-left/ I am a pretty typical south-paw with some conversion due to adaptation. I am sitting here eating my brunch with my left hand. I am musical, good at languages and suck at math. If you, your husband, wife child, mother or grandmother were left-handed share with us your stories about sinistrality and how you think being left-handed is great! PS My dad's father may have been left-handed but no one seems to know for sure.

One of my sisters is a leftie. Funny enough, her twin is right handed. The leftie sister was married to a leftie (now an ex), and their only child is a leftie as well. I used to hate going to their house because everything was set up backwards! Gave me an insight to what life is like for a leftie though. I also remember growing up that going out to restaurants was always a challenge on where to seat her so that the other siblings didn't have to bump elbows with her at the table. I'm pretty sure she must have a complex because of that! . However, of the three of us she has the best handwriting. One of her grade school teachers would not allow the lefties to turn their hand, making them hold a pencil the proper way. As a result, she write normally and has beautiful writing. Mine looks like chicken scratch!

I'm good at math and music

When I first started my last job, I was the only right handed person in the office. When we went out for lunches, I was the one who needed to have the "special" seat so my arm wouldn't bump into the person next to me. lol

My husband is left handed, our first kiss was awkward cos we both leaned the same way He's musical, awesome at maths, science and computer stuff, he's very artistic and I love watching him draw.

I did not always love being left handed but over the years I've adapted quite well...now it's a piece of cake. I can eat and use scissors with either hand. I can only throw a bowling ball right handed however. While playing softball, I batted right but threw left. Coach noticed and encouraged me to try batting left and I was a home run hitter after that! My favorite left handed quote: I may be left handed but I'm always right.

Happy Day fellow lefties!
Both of my parents are/were lefties. My mom by nature, my Dad because he has cerebral palsy that impacted his right side. My mom had one brother who was also a lefty. It stops with me. My brothers and my boys are all right handed.

Both our sons are lefties. Have no close relatives on either side that are. Was a real learning experience for me with the older one, but I looked for it in the younger one. Both have terrible hand writing, and both are very good at math. One has an electrical engineering background, and the other is an attorney.

My sister was left-handed, I am left-handed and both of our children, one each, are left-handed. Back in the day when I was in school, I often had ink marks on the side of my left hand. BUT, I always say I could live with being right-handed if I had to, most right-handers could not function being left-handed.
ETA: I am not artistic, I don't like science but got a math medal in high school. I play sports, including golf, right handed.

I'm left handed, as was my Dad, his mother, 3 of his siblings. 3 of my siblings are left handed and 2 of my children are. Every single one of the aforementioned also had or has ginger hair. Coincidence?
I don't get on well with scissors or tin openers.

I don't mind being a leftie. I do like spirals with the spiral at the top though. And growing up in the 70's, all of the desks were made for right handers in my schools.

I am a proud lefty. my dad was left handed and there were three kids- my brother was left handed but my dad forced him to be right handed. Luckily he left me alone. I have three dds and the oldest is also a lefty. I eat and write with my left hand but do everything else right handed- my dad made me do sports right handed and I was a good basketball player. I use the computer mouse right handed, use can open and other tools with my right, and cut with right handed scissors. My graduating HS class had twenty kids and 7 of us were lefties! I feel for dd sometimes. She is a true full lefty and since I am not I forget things are different for her. It took me a long time to realize why she was so uncoordinated with the can opener as I had no issues! Lol

Proudly raising my left hand! I've always loved being left handed. It makes me feel special.
The only thing I don't do w/ my left hand is bat.
My biggest problem is cutting. I never learned to cut w/ left handed scissors-I don't think there was such a thing when I was learning. Instead I hold right handed scissors upside down and the result is pretty bad. I've tried to cut w/ left handed scissors, but I just can't get the hang of it.
I'm not great at math, but I do think I'm pretty creative, which fits the left handed stereotype.

My son isn't left-handed either. I was hoping he would be. I mean it's different and cool! When he was little he was favouring his left hand quite a bit and then nope, he was right-handed. He is all happy he is right handed. My ex-BIL said he would switch DS if he turned out to be left-handed. I told him I would seriously maim anyone who tried to "fix" him. He didn't care. I took my threat seriously. I am a proud south paw. Maybe if I had had more children I would have had one. Maybe DS will give me left-handed grandchildren! That would rock my world!

I'm a leftie in most things except writing. Does that count? I can't throw or catch a ball with my right hand to save my life. For that reason I have to play tennis holding the racquet in my right hand to serve, but I used to swap hands after that and nobody noticed. I couldn't play hockey because there were no leftie sticks, and I can't even watch right-handed golf - it hurts my brain. I use the mouse and trackpad with my left hand, so that my right hand is free to take notes. I'm left-eared on the phone, and left-eye dominant with cameras and guns. I use scissors with my right hand simply because there was no such thing as leftie scissors when I was a kid so I learned - had no choice. Ditto with cutlery - I was taught to use it "the right way" and just got on with it. I'm also musical, am good at languages and poor at maths. I don't think there are any other lefties (or ambi-confused) in my family.

My Dad and I are the only lefties. I write with my left. I don't smudge ink, I keeo my hand under so I can see. My first instinct would be to do something with my left first but if it's closer or easier to reach with my right I'd just do it. I was painting some furniture recently and couldn't reach and was too lazy to move so I just started using my right hand instead. I can crochet either way but am quicker with the hook in my left hand. I've never had a problem with things like can openers?!

Another leftie! I do everything with my right except writing and eating. So I've adapted well:)
I am not creative or a visual thinker or artistic. Never had a problem growing up except for the spiral notebooks. Been pretty easy being a lefty for me.

I am kind of disappointed we can't tell where I got mine from. I want a left-handed relative somewhere in the family. They are all so boring and right-handed. I was really excited when I saw the baby favouring his left hand and then gave it up. That was kind of a low point LOL. I feel so *unique* writing and eating and using my left hand. I sew with either hand. If I had to do a seam I could do either and not think about which one would be easier. The left might seem clearer but honestly the right one is what I would use. I would hold a crochet hook in my right hand. I can't write my name with my right hand at all. I can't eat either. I have to lick a plate before using my right hand. (when you break your left hand and can't eat it is awkward!!! I was at a restaurant and they offered to cut my food for me. I had DS cut it instead. It's a weird feeling!)

I love families that are lefties together! I wish but it didn't turn out that way. We supposedly use our right brains and thus are in our right minds right?

Another proud lefty! Neither of my parents are left handed but my half brother is and one of his children is. There are a lot of male lefties on that side of the family and one two girls that we know of. My female cousin on my mom's side of the family is the only other lefty on that side. Family dinners are always fun and we always sit in the "special" spots but it took other family members a while to "get it."
I have noticed that a lot of the people I work with in the hospital are left handed. One day, there were 6 nurses, one MD and one tech in the pod and 7 out of the 8 were lefty!! It was pretty fun because we weren't fighting for desk space all day!
I do find that I work better on the left side of the patient. I hate being assigned one particular role in traumas because it is ALL on the right side of the patient and I just can't do it as well as the roles working on the left. If another righty nurse is on the left, I beg her to swap. It just works so much better for everyone!

Both kids could not make up their minds to be right handed or left handed until kindergarten. They chose right hand But they are switch hitters in baseball and can catch equally well with both hands They both draw, sing, dance. As well as do complex math (mentally) They can "see" how things go together. ( chemistry was a breeze for them).
I think it is because their dad is left handed.

Both my boys are lefties. Only my mother is left-handed out of our immediate families, so I don't know where the boys got it from. They have both become quite ambidextrous though .

There are no left handed people in my family that I'm aware of. In Portland, Oregon where I used to live, there was a store entirely dedicated to left handed people. Every single item they carried was designed for the left handed. Like can openers. That must be very frustrating for left handed people to operate right hand can openers.

In our family:
I am left handed and play all sports left. DH is left handed and plays all sports right. DS is right handed and plays all sports right. DD is right handed and plays all sports left.
I think we've covered all the permutations LOL.
