I like the colors and many of the design elements in this kit. I think I would likely break this kit up and use it in different projects....OLW, PL. I really like both stamp sets and from the main kit the cards, puffy stickers, and pleather rainbows. Not a fan of the wood veneer...wish that would embellishment would retire. I don't know if I want to spend the money for the main kit right now. I wonder if it will sell out. Seems like her smaller collections don't always sell out. I will probably jump on the stamps right away tho.

Love both stamps but will get it in digital form. Love that pouch but don't need it but its just too cute. Love the plastic circles but not sure I want to pay the price for them. Not in love with all the journal cards -- maybe just 3 or 4 of them. May consider digital.

I really like the colors in the Ups and Downs kit. I definitely don’t need another kit though.

I really dislike the bumpy rainbows. There’s too much that I dislike about this collection so it’s a pass for me. Stamps are nice but too many phrases/designs that I dislike to justify purchasing. I’m bummed. I fully expected to “need” all of it. The kit does seem pretty highly priced too.

I'm going to have to give this one some thought. I can go both ways, documenting both the positive and the negative. Although I don't have a lot of supplies in my stash focusing on the down side of life. When I was a teenager, my dad used to say to me that I was either on my way up or on my way down, nothing in between and this kit is prompting me to consider asking him what I was like .... and certainly with 2 boys in the house I know I'm going to experience a fair amount of teenage angst. But I'll need to compare this kit against my recent EE stamp (https://everydayexplorers.co/collections/stamps/products/today-is-the-day-4x6-clear-stamp-set?variant=31971649486914) + some of the old past story kits (e.g. tough) The EE stamp is much more versatile i.m.o, doing a nice job of enabling me to tell positive and negative stories covering both personal and worklife vs this kit, which seems to be to be narrowly focused. Or maybe I feel like that because one stamp focuses on the down and the other is on the up vs mixing ..... If I do buy, it would only be the one stamp (down) + the cards. I think sleepingbooty , you hit the nail on the head....I hadn't really given it much thought before you said it...when I document my "unhappy" stories, I don't embellish them

I like the kit enough but there is quite a bit I would not need more than one of (the pleather rainbow, all the stickers, the puffy stickers. Im sure I will pass.

I really want this Ups and Down's kit but the kit plus both stamps comes in at over $80. If I only buy the things I want in the bundle, it will be just under $80. I am going to have to buy bits and pieces over time. I'm sure what I want will sell out and then I'll never get everything I want. Her prices are killing me.

I might pass on this kit...
I love the color scheme, the chipboard and some of the cards. The rest I don't love and I don't hate... I could definitely find a use for it, but right now I'm swimming in product and think I need to pass just so I can work through a bit of what I have. I do really like the concept of the "ups & downs" and I do document these things, but I feel like I have enough supplies from old story kits/one little word to tell these kind of stories.
As far as the embellishing the "downs" I think I also skip heavy embellishing for the really serious, journaling stories that I include in my more personal album/journals (I add a few things, like a date stamp and a title), but I would use embellishments for the light-hearted "downs"... the kind of things that get documented in project life because they're just part of "real life" but are more on the negative side (for example, right now the fact that our lawn just won't come in right and there are a ton of weeds). It's not a hard story, it's not a long story, but it's a "down" if it's anything and I can definitely see a lot of these products working for that type of story. But I guess that's why I'm passing... they would be used in project life or one little word, but I wouldn't use them for stand alone layouts or projects so they would really just be adding to my already too large stash...

I like the overall look of the kit, I really like the colors. The theme really resonates with me and I could use it bunches. But the pricing is so beyond insulting. Those chipboard hearts are like the mini chipboards SC used to put in their PL kits - it’s like 3x4! And she’s changing MORE than the going rate for a 4x6 chipboard set. Crazy. No thank you.

I like the stamps, the journalling cards and some of the other embellishments. If a stamp set came with the kit I'd jump on it but as it stands I'll probably get a few things but not the whole kit.

It's an easy pass for me- I don't care for the use of the yellow color and there is too much of her handwriting.
Still at $10 for the year with AE. It's a new record!
(LOL, I can't say that about KP though. 😂)

I think I’ll be picking up the stamps and perhaps the journaling cards. I just don’t use stickers much anymore, and I struggle with those types of die cuts so def not getting the kit.

Nope. Not for me. That yellow = ick. Not a fan of the other colors either (too jewel-tonish for me) and her handwriting is looking sloppy and chunky these days.

Hi everyone! I registered for this account just so I could ask this question: can anyone tell me about Ali's "Stories of Travel" class? I scrap exclusively digitally and already have my own aesthetic that I'm pretty happy with, so I'm not looking for layout inspo. What I'm most interested in from her description of the class is the following: "What to do before, during, and after travel to help you tell the kinds of stories you want to tell; Pre-planning ideas to help you decide on an intentional documenting approach; Tips for being present while traveling + still getting stories told." How deeply does she get into those points? Will it be like 5 seconds of that stuff and then mostly flip-throughs and things that are irrelevant to me? (A search of this forum and reading what others had to say about this class a couple of years ago made it...sound not all that much like what I'm looking for.) It's an expensive class and I don't want to pay for it if it's mostly stuff I don't care about, but if she heavily covers the items I quoted above then it would probably be worth it for me. Also interested in suggestions of classes elsewhere in the scrapbooking world that could help with the above! Thanks ever so much. (BTW, as an unregistered user I have spent literally months not doing a lick of work at my job and just reading the Ali, Beggy, and Studio Calico threads for hours and hours to amuse myself. This coming from someone who has never done business with any of them! My sincerest thanks for the endless entertainment.) I can't help with AE's travel class either but there was a good episode of the Scrapbook Your Way podcast I just listened that you might enjoy. I believe they talked about a couple of different approaches that did include some talk about ideas on before, during, after and real time documenting. www.simplescrapper.com/2020/07/syw073/

nicolep omg thank you! I just sent you a message. Citygirl thank you for the offer too! I didn't use them in the very beginning but now I use them as titles frequently and it's often one of the first pieces I use! You can also color them really easily with Ali's pigment inks + clear embossing powder. I will post a few photos of pages I have done using them in a little bit The roam one is for a page about walks my husband and I have been taking with our dog at lunchtime now that we work from home. My title is going to be "Let's Roam the neighborhood" and I am going to use the white acrylic piece of "roam" and then either stamp or add letter stickers for the rest of the title. Now you definitely need to do a page about your cat and use the chewed up piece!

I ended up picking up the things I wanted. I was late to the game, and some things have sold out. The only thing I wanted that was sold out was the rainbow-y stamp, but its on pre order so I will still get it.

I ended up getting the two stamp sets. I just can't justify the cost of the collection right now even though I'd LOVE to have it.

Easy pass for me. I do like the colors, but not the 1970s style flowers or the butterflies. And the sentiments don’t resonate with me at all. I’m a positive person, always look for the positive, and mostly scrap about the positive - I don’t like to wallow in or fixate on or hyper-analyze the downs through my scrapbooking like Ali does. Like others have said, I don’t really embellish the lows (and include that elsewhere typically than my scrapbooks). I also didn’t feel like the “ups” were really that Up.

Marked safe from the "Ups and Downs" collection July 22, 2020
Now if Ali uses this same aesthetic for the DD collection, I'll be able to keep to $10 in spending at her store this year.
