I had additional thoughts.
I think that there should’ve been a discount code for people that participated in the 2020 classroom. This is never been done but I think it would’ve been a good faith step for people that had participated in the community previously.
I am also 100% sure that people are not going to be getting their albums before January 1 to set up their albums “on time.” And I hope they address that in the class.

I agree the quality of that blue chipboard piece is very bad. The fact that half of the N and half of the R in “new year” are missing. I wouldn’t use it Ew yea, bring it on!

Wow the comment section must’ve been interesting. She had to expect backlash. Historically price increases of any kind are unpopular in her community and this was a big one.

I’m not on Facebook anymore. I gather from her response people were upset and when they expressed this the fan girls came to Ali’s rescue....it spiraled from there. She responded then turned off the comments? yadda yadda....same old same old.

It was quite the brouhaha on FB. I was waffling on the class. I liked the idea of new instructors, because OLW 19 and 20 have been basically the same, why would I need a repeat of that for 21? I think I am looking for a kit or class other than AE for 50 bucks, something new! I also wasn't thinking about even a OLW for 21, but heart kind of resonates with me. I'm having the *no guilt maybe no word" for 21.

Did the January Stories by the Month kit really sell out in 3 hours yesterday? I want to start with January for 2021 and so I signed in at 9:30am yesterday Central time and it wasn't updated yet. Checked again around 9:45am. Then I had to get ready and go to church. I checked again at 1:00pm when I got done with lunch and it was sold out already. Really? I signed up on the waiting list anyway, hoping that it was still set to December and hadn't fully updated yet and that I can still get January. I don't really want to start my 2021 Project Lift book with February. Oh well. I'd be willing to part with mine. I am going to cancel this sub this year and forgot to do it in time.

Im getting the impression that they are the same and the instructors are just adding their spin on the prompts.

After subbing to Story Kits from the very beginning - I'm going to cancel my sub now after receiving the Dec kit. I don't know why I feel sad about it!! It was way more about product when I first started...I loved getting the goodies every month and the releases, etc. Then I actually got really into USING the product, the way Ali did. I used Story kits up - told all the stories for a couple years or more! Now, they just collect and I'm not only not using them, I'm not even excited about opening them. I've also been on a money-saving journey the past year and I've cut out a lot. I held onto this one last thing for myself, but it's past time and I had planned to stop eventually. There really doesn't seem to be anything fresh or new with this kit - which isn't bad at all, but good GOD above, I think I have enough now! The end of a chapter. I will keep up the WITL for sure and probably Dec. Daily too, although that's starting to run it's course for me too.

That would be nice, especially considering the content doesn’t change much year to year. But she’s never done that. Or, she could be like Shimelle where you pay once and get access to the class each subsequent year for FREE! This is why I gladly sign up for Shimelle classes. Plus Shimelle is just awesome and shares her enthusiasm for scrapbooking so openly and freely.

Was the discussion in the OLW group or her general Craft the Story group? I saw very little posted on the craft the story group and was genuinely surprised that everyone was cool with the pretty huge change. I have never completed all 12 prompts for the year, in part because I really don’t have room in my life for another album every year plus a vision board etc. I always do the January prompt and 1-2 more check-in/reflection prompts and stick them in the back of my PL. I don’t think I want to pay almost $50 for the content to fill in a couple of pages at most.

I used to get excited I mean totally jazzed up for Ali’s products. The bloom is completely off the rose. Everything is starting to become mass produced rehash. Nothing fun or new. I have moved on from her products and have not had a single moment of regret.
I only follow her now for December Daily inspiration. Wow she’s knocking it out of the park this year! I didn’t even finish watching her daily videos the last few years. Glad to see her creative genius is back this year.

2021 is not the year for price increases. Just going to put that out there. The brands I work with are really doing their best to halt any price increases for the next 12 months. They're mostly indie, niche brands so it's not as though they can rely on some mother company to negotiate a trade deal that will positively impact them. Kind of disappointing to read this OLW news and considering how long the pandemic has been going on, there really is not much of an excuse for it. I understand the AE fans will wave the increase away and try to privilege-splain this to me or others who raise an eyebrow at it but it's not the right moment for such a move, especially considering how much it's gone up. Seriously, whose income went up in the last year besides giants like Amazon? I'm going to file this increase under "not cool". I'm at the point of not caring about saying things with diplomacy or th "care and understanding" bullshit. This is just more whacking away at her poor base and absolutely on par with the price increases for the AE brand over the past few years. That apology is bullshit. "Sorry I didn't let you know earlier the price was going up by a pretty significant percentage! Ok, bye now." I agree with you...this wasn't the year. I am torn, though. Because I do think the contributors deserve to be compensated. Looking over her contributors, I do see she has gone out of her way to include creators that arent white, so thats a positive. We all know Ali isn't about to give up her share. But at the end of the day, the way it was handled was crap. She knew the cost was going up and her team did as well. She should have said something. I also think Ali puts more value on the '10 years of OLW' than most do. I think I am going to do my own thing this year. I have the digitals from the many previous years that I can recolor and print. I don't need a main kit with cream + poop brown, nor do I need an album that will break apart. I like using my Felicity Jane kits for my OLW practice, so I am pretty sure I am just going to be a one-man band and do my own thing. Edited to add: If there are others that end up doing their own thing, we could start a post monthly or have a PM and chat or something like that, to keep us motivated. I'd be keen for an independent take o this... it's the group aspect that keeps me hooked into this project, but seriously, I have all the products I need already and don't need to pay that kind of dosh for the privilege of being aprt of a specific FB group

I was really surprised to see such a huge jump in price. I'm a nerd and even did the math to check the percentage because I was so surprised. It's the community that has kept me involved for so long. I typically like Ali's classes. I got over her products a long time ago but occasionally still use some of the digitalis. Just all the handwriting and repetition of the same words over and over got to me after a while. I know that's her brand and all, but it got to same-y for me. I need to think hard about if it's worth it to continue. I liked the idea of new contributors and some she choose might be really interesting. I've loved the FB group but like scrappydo, not sure if it's worth the $ to be a part of the group. Price increases this year is shit. I'm grateful to still have a job but like a lot of folks, I've taken a significant pay-cut. Such a huge increase is completely out of touch with the reality so many of us are facing.

Without the price increase, I would have subscribed - although I’m really exited about the additional teachers, I love Felictas’ works, so creative 😍 - i don‘t plan on the OLW class for 2021. But I treated myself with the new Kit, Alpha stamp and the folio bundle. So for now I‘m planning on using mostly the prompts from the booklet and revisiting the Class prompts from this year. At this point I‘m torn between 2 words, light or space. We‘ll see in the next two weeks.

For those of you trying to find a word, Susannah Conway offers a free workshop/workbook type thing. I haven't been doing the word thing for a couple years, but I tried this last year and it did help me pick a word. She also has her free Unravel Your Year workbook if you are just looking for some journaling prompts and introspection. www.susannahconway.com/word/

I have a few words I’ve been ruminating in, maybe this will help me decide on one. I’ve been toying about juggling the three, or rotate through them every few months. Where I am with OLW: I have never done it “officially” and followed Ali’s class. I did sign up for it in 2017, but then sort of forgot about it right away. I think I thought the prompts would be emailed, and b B ever actually made it to the classroom. Lol. 🤷🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ I’d periodically think about it when I’d see an Instagram post, but was busy with life and not actively scrapbooking at the time, so it just slipped through the cracks. Anyway, I have used words as a guiding principle for the last few years and find value in it. I love how the words rise up to meet me as I go about my life, even when I’m not consciously thinking about it. The words will bubble up in unexpected ways, and it’s a comforting and rewarding practice to me. I was interested n doing OLW for real this coming year, but with the cost I’m no longer considering it. Would you all be interested in forming a peas OLW group? It could be an ongoing thread where we share and encourage each other in the process.

Yes, there was a blog post introducing them. Krystal Idunate and Victoria Marie Calvin are the two who caught my attention. I don’t totallllllly jive with their scrapbook styles, but they are two people I really enjoy listening to, especially Victoria. Same, we definitely don't have the same style but I do like their instagrams and I also am on Patreon for Victoria because I just really like her positivity and her weekend online crops are very well done.

I got an unexpected Christmas gift today so now I'm back to considering the class again. I know she said some of the prompts are repeats from prior years. As someone who has never taken any One Little Word class before, would it be worth it?

As someone who has never taken any One Little Word class before, would it be worth it? You'll get what you put into it. I am not buying the class this year, as I have the prompts for several years and they are pretty similar. I have more than enough goodies from other year's so I don't need more. I will miss the FB group, but truly, I just can't justify spending what will be around $70 in my currency just for the privilege of being in a FB group. As you've never done it before, you might like to take it this year and then reuse the prompts in following years

This would be the year I have extra time to put into a project like this since I’m working from home. I’m leaning towards taking it now. I will admit it’s one I’ve considered for more than a few years now. It might be the time to just do it.
