One of my kitties does this. My vet calls it wool sucking and compared it to thumb sucking. Linus has done this since he was a kitten and still does it every time he goes to sleep (he's just over 1 year old now). I was happy to know it wasn't something sexual because he just seems to be in pure ecstasy. And yes, he has extra toes - lots of extra toes. Linus Wool SuckingOMG Linus is adorable!!!

Congratulations!
I cannot count how many orphan bottle babies we've raised for our shelter and rescue and it's not an uncommon issue. I would caution you to give her an outlet with a fleece or sheepskin to nuzzle in. Sometimes they're so determined they will suckle on other pets in the house in inappropriate places and the ensuing swelling can kill them. Sadly, I've even seen cats suckle on themselves and cause damage. She'll most likely outgrow it but keep an eye on it.

I seriously wished for a pacifier for our cat, I wish they were available widely. He's 4 now and will still suckle and knead in the morning when he is cuddling.

My two babies were found when they were just a few days old. For about a year they would do this. They did eventually grow out of it. It was definitely something that was soothing to them.

We had a kitty that would do this. He would knead soft stuff all the time but occasionally I'd catch him with the blankie in his mouth while kneading. He was found by my husband on his doorstep as a small kitten. He probably was abandoned too early. That was the best kitty. We adopted a similar type of cat but he's just beautiful, not a friend like Pepe was.

I had a Great Dane once that did this. He'd drag the pillows off our bed and suck on them whenever he could... He'd been used as a breeding dog, and kept in kennels outside his whole life. When we adopted him, he was just starved for companionship. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg)

My cat Celia ( named so because she came from the ceiling!) was about 3 weeks old, weighed 230g when we discovered her. We fed her with a teat pipette.
I found her in our library roof so I put her in a plastic box with a furry costume mask which she curled up with and stopped crying. It had safety pins holding the ears in so I took it apart and she took to carrying the ear around at night, sucking on it and crying.
Celia is about to turn 7 and those 2 furry ears are always lying around our house somewhere. She oftenflicks them up in the air, then grabs them and puts them under her tummy. And yes, sometimes at night she still carries them around and cries.
Maybe your kitten needs something warm and reassuring - like a blanky or toy.

I have a 10 year old cat who still does this to this day. She wasn't taken from her mom too early either. It's her way of showing me she is happy. I usually get some kisses too.

We have a cat that used to do that too. She was also abandoned around 3 weeks of age. That is EXTREMELY young for a kitten to be taken from their mother, so I think the nursing/suckling is a result of that. Kit did that for several years, but doesn't do it anymore. I really don't think it is anything to worry about, just enjoy it and be happy she loves you so much she thinks you are her biological momma! Our cat was the same way. His mom abandoned him and his brother in my mother in law's barn around 3 weeks old. He did the sucking thing for a few years. We always had a soft, fuzzy blanket for him to suck and snuggle on our bed. He's now 8 and rarely does it anymore.

I have two kittens that did that last year. They lost their mother when they were very young. They are a year old now and they still do it occasionally. It's a comfort thing.

Awe! Our black kitty did the same thing when we took him in. He and his brother were found hiding behind the tire of a car and they were only about 6 weeks old. He loved to knead (probably a sign of comfort and security) and he'd suck on DH's ears (and mine). He grew out of it eventually, but he's still a mushy, lovey cat.
If you do get the kitten toys, just make sure they're safe for little kittens, but I"m sure you know that. Good luck!

We rescued a little white kitten that was originally the neighbor's kitty. As soon as the neighbor learned the kitten was deaf, she put her in the front yard to wander off and fend for herself. She didn't want a "defective" cat. My son found her and brought her to me asking if we could keep her. I thought there must be some mistake so we took the kitty back to the house where he found it. No mistake. She didn't want the "stupid thing" if it didn't know enough to get out of the way of her large dogs.
Needless to say, we got ourselves a kitten right on the spot. She was particularly small, and I don't know how old she was or where the neighbor's husband got her. We went to Disneyland the day after bringing her home. While there, my son won this little blue stuffed cat that he wanted to give our kitten for company. I had never seen a cat take to a stuffed animal before, but darned if that kitten didn't adopt this thing and carry it with her all over the house. She would meow strangely when she was walking around with it. She would jump up on the couch with us, dragging her little stuffed kitten with her, and she would suck on the nose or ears until she fell asleep. Over time, she would also play with it by holding onto it and kicking it with her back feet. It eventually lost all of its stuffing and I had sewn it back together numerous times. It remained that cat's "lovie" that she carried with her for years.
