Wow, so much happened. But first:
Who’s not coming back:
Jerrika Hinton, who played Stephanie Edwards since season 9, exited as a series regular at the close of season 13. Tessa Ferrer, whose Dr. Leah Murphy was also part of the season 9 cast, had previously exited in season 10, but returned last year in a recurring status. However, she’s not expected to be back in season 14. Marika Domińczyk, who joined the cast as Eliza Minnick, a recurring love interest for Arizona (Jessica Capshaw), will not return after her character was fired in the season 13 finale. Bridget Regan, who originally played Owen’s (Kevin McKidd) presumed-dead sister, has been recast with Abigail Spencer, who will recur in season 14.
Who’s new:
Besides the addition of Spencer to the cast, Italian actress Stefania Spampinato joins in the recurring role of Andrew DeLuca’s (Giacomo Gianniotti) sister Carina, who boards the Grey Sloan crew as a controversial new doc. EW has also confirmed that Ally McBeal alum Greg Germann will guest star, though details on his role are being kept under wraps.
Who's returning"
Kim Raver, who exited the series in season 8, will reprise her role as Teddy Altman, while Matthew Morrison is expected to return as Jo’s abusive husband, Paul Stadler. For the record, here are all the regular characters returning: Meredith Grey, Alex Karev, Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson), Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), Owen Hunt, Arizona Robbins, April Kepner (Sarah Drew), Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams), Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone), Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington), Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary), Ben Warren (Jason George), Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson), Andrew DeLuca, and Catherine Avery (Debbie Allen).
Okay what happened:
Meredith performed successful ground-breaking surgery on Hunt's sister, Megan, who wants to return to Iraq for her Syrian refugee son whom she wants to adopt. She turned down Nathan's proposal because she thinks he's still in love with Mer.
Arizona hopped into bed with a new woman who turned out to be DeLuca's sister. I won't go into the stupid details but she discovered that Amelia has a brain tumor which may explain why she's been acting like a jerk.
I wish they would kill off Arizona and Maggie. Their storylines are usually so stupid they make me want to scream.
I also wish they would stop playing the music so loud you can't hear the dialog.

I hate the brain tumor line with Amelia. She's always been a whiny spoiled little girl ever since her character was created. She can't handle stress, which makes me even question her ability as a neurosurgeon. Every single time she has something the least bit stressful she melts down like a 2 year old. I hate how she treats meredith over the loss of Derek, but in reality that has actually been true how family can react towards the widow, so I guess its true to form. Still drives me batty.
I really wish April would stop being so selfish and get back together with Jackson. Unfortunately all she does is hurt him over and over again because she only thinks of herself and her feelings and her beliefs.
We need new interns. Real solid interns that bring up the next generation.
I liked the new episodes for the most part. I want Owen and Teddy together and I want teddy back at work. I liked her a lot.

Maggie is extremely immature. Amelia and Owen are perfect for each other because they are both whiners. All three of them could go away and I wouldn't care. I hate how they have turned Arizona into such a slut.

I would like to see Alex and Joe finally back together.
Amelia I think brain tumor will be her exit.
Hmm. I liked the overall episode. I think it was a great premiere.

I agree with all that has been posted. I liked Stephanie so will miss her character (the actress is going to be on a new show (starts in 2018). I like it thought, that they left it open for her to return. I do not like Arizona jumping into bed with some strange woman she met at a bar who "just happened" to be her room-mate's sister from Italy - yeah, right? I used to like Arizona's character but since Callie left they just keep making her look like a crazed sex-fiend. Why does DeLuca's sister have an accent but he doesn't? I am glad Eliza is gone - couldn't stand her. I am excited that Greg Germann is coming - I have loved him since he was on Ned & Stacy ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/MNrJDkDuSwqIMVw33MdD.jpg) I agree about the music - have said that for years - it is too loud and often distracts from the scene. I am glad Teddy is back.

I don't like Amelia having a brain tumor either because there is a perfectly good explanation for her feelings and actions if they would just explore it. If you watched Private Practice, you know what happened to Amelia and how that affected her feelings about having another child which Owen wants. There is no reason to give her the 'brain tumor made me do it' excuse. Amelia actually shared her secret with Alex but then he beat up Deluca and got immersed in his own problems.
I like Maggie and we don't need to kill off another of Meredith's sisters. They need to concentrate on Arizona's career. They seem to think because she is a Lesbian that is the only facet of her life that can be explored. She's a talented doctor who should have her own challenging cases.
I do like how they included discussion of the characters who had left even dumping on of Minnick's projects - the pre-interns - onto Webber. That sort of thing happens. when someone leaves a job suddenly for whatever reason, their work doesn't necessarily just stop. Stephanie was talked about a lot to and I think this creates a smoother transition that shows often miss.

I hate how they have turned Arizona into such a slut. Yes to the Amelia and Owen bit but Arizona has always been slutty, she was the one who walked up to Callie in the bath room and kissed her out of the blue. She has always been sex driven.

I don't like Teddy - I don't like how she pulls rank over everyone when it comes to Owen. She doesn't know her place or boundaries. I've always felt that way about her. Even if Amelia wasn't keeping herself out of the picture, I feel like Owen and his family would always look to Teddy first instead of anyone he was in a relationship with.
Does anyone else think we may see Cristina back this season since they brought her up and showed her picture in the magazine?

I do like Teddy though. Liked her on 24 too.

Is it bad that when they revealed Amelia's brain tumor, I said, "Good. I hope she dies"? I do not like her character, I didn't like her on Private Practice (that entire outstanding cast, and *she* had to be the one they kept?), and I don't think she adds anything to the show. Good riddance to Minnick. I don't mind the introduction of the Italian doctor who's hooking up with Arizona. I think it's interesting that she's DeLuca's sister. I've been holding a grudge against DeLuca since I'm in love with Alex (lol), but now I'm more curious about his character. I kinda liked Stephanie but don't particularly mind that she's gone. I enjoyed Ben's role as "the new Stephanie" with Jo. Glad Jo & Alex are finally back together, but I'm nervous about the ex returning (and love that he's Matthew Morrison since my brain associates him with his overly wholesome Glee character). I don't care if he comes back to kill Jo, but if Alex ends up dead and/or incarcerated because of him, I will NOT be a happy camper. Murphy - I didn't understand why they bothered reintroducing her, so I'm glad she's back out. Still love Bailey & Webber. I would be fine with Maggie & Jackson getting together. April needs something to do. Romantically, I'd put her with Owen, but now that Teddy's back (who I like), idk. I had decided late last season that I actually liked Meredith with Riggs. I don't know how invested I am in the storyline there, although I don't mind the sister/ex so far. Somehow I feel like Owen is going to end up with her kid. I just realized a lot of this sounds negative, but I really love this show, I enjoyed the premiere and am looking forward to another season, and I'll continue watching Grey's as long as it continues to air. I I am excited that Greg Germann is coming - I have loved him since he was on Ned & Stacy ![:)](http://i59.tinypic.com/211nd6h.jpg) Seconded, and I'm excited to find someone else who remembers Ned & Stacy. I loved that show!

The only thing which would make me watch this show again would be the return of Christina Yang. If operating on a hated by me character is what it would take, so be it. Other than that, Mer and Christina dancing it out / Christina going out to run a staff meeting is where I will leave this beloved series, forever. I admit I read these threads though, obviously (!) thanks cadoodlebug and the rest of the posters. Enjoy!

Christina was a cardiac surgeon, not a nuro surgeon, so she wouldn't operate on Amelia.

Agree with many of you - I don't care for Arizona or Amelia. Just have never been invested in either of them, and wouldn't be sad if they left the show.
Was glad that Owen's sister was coming back and hope that she gets back with Riggs. He is ok but he is NOT a follow up to the GREAT MER DER LOVE STORY!
Really liked Jo and Ben this episode! And I loved the female empowerment theme that was happening!
Overall a great episode!

I watched-haven't missed an episode since it started. I liked Stephanie and wished that it had been Jo's character who left- let Alex start over! And Amelia- hope they get rid of her, too. I like Teddy and have always thought she and Owen belonged together. I hope we don't have to endure another whole season of Mer running from Nathan. Can't stand Maggie and hope she doesn't end up with Jackson- anyone but her. And, yes, Arizona has always been picking up women since the beginning.

Who's going to operate on Amelia? Someone will have to be brought in. DeLuca isn't up to it yet.
I was thinking Christina may make an appearance since they showed her in that article.
I like to see Maggie and Webers characters more interact like daughter father.

There is usually more than one person in each department but since Derrick died, I can't think who is the other person in Neuro. Christina's specialty is cardio.

Is Teddy neuro? It would make sense for the show to build tension. If she operated on Amelia and is successful she has a lot to lose if she cures Amelia and Amelia takes Owen back.

So, was Teddy just in last week's episode never to be seen again?
I think the writers got in a pickle and realized everyone on the planet disliked Amelia so they gave her a brain tumor to explain why she was nasty to everyone. Now we're going to get a sweet, nicer Amelia. DeLucca cracked me up the way he was trying to tell Maggie about Amelia without actually telling her.
I'm already sick of DeLucca's sister. Ugh.
The Harper Avery storyline was strange but they killed him off before it could do any damage.
I have no idea where they are going with the Megan/Riggs storyline but either he will have to leave the show or her kid will have to come to Seattle.
What else?

I thought DeLuca was funny too when he was trying to get Maggie to see the brain scans. I thought it was brilliant how they just knocked the old man off like that- don't mess with Bailey!
I hope Amelia realizes after her surgery that marrying Owen was an impulse and that she doesn't love him- don't like them together even if nice Amelia emerges.
Keep Jackson away from Maggie-ugh.
I guess no one is listening to me about Jo- she's never going anywhere...

I was looking for this thread in the first few minutes of the show but couldn't find it. I went back to watching.
Who else groaned at the beginning of the show when Amelia told everyone in the room that Owen and Meredith didn't know about the tumor and weren't to be told? So stinkin' predictable of her annoying character. I don't think I'll ever be able to see that actress in any other role and enjoy her.
I love that Grandpa Avery died the way he did. He was a jerk.
