I was so happy to collapse in my chair after hosting all the neighbors for Halloween to see that our show was on!
What did you think?
I was specifically trying to see if Rebecca was wearing a wedding ring during the scenes 9 years ago. Then as soon as I saw she was, we saw her grieving Jack, and only thereafter, reconnect with Miguel. I was surprised to see the relationship between her and Miguel had begun so recently. Were you? I'm glad it settles that they weren't an affair (I didn't suspect they were).
Kate is...well you already know how I feel about her. It's like they allow her to be the most base of all the characters and excuse all her crap just because she's the poor fat girl. She's repugnant. I find very few redeeming qualities in her.
I was surprised to see Kevin be such a jerk to his friend. I've always thought he was superficial, but I didn't see grownup Kevin as an outright ass. But that 20 something Kevin was. And do we know if that was before or after Sophie the first time? I wonder what turned him around?
I really loved Rebecca's monologue in the nursery scenes to both babies. Especially after her own mom was so racist, it was wonderful to see her dote so much and so sincerely on Tessa. I wish we got to see more of Rebecca as a Grandma.
It was nice to see Beth be vulnerable as not just tough all the time. Home birth! Wow how that didn't screw Randall up for good, I don't know!
I loved kid Kevin protecting his sister.
The line 20 something Kevin said to Kate about standing in the spot she was when "he" (presumably Jack) LEFT was an interesting line. Not died or disappeared, but left. Maybe it just meant left for work the last time, but I thought the language was odd, and intentional. Maybe it meant left her on the sidewalk across the street to go back inside the house. Who knows. But I felt like we were to take notice of that.
What did you think of tonight's episode?

I was really surprised Kevin pulled that stunt too! But I loved seeing him protect Kate when they were kids.
I don't dislike Kate to the extent you do but I didn't get her story line last night. I didn't expect the guy to be married...I thought maybe he was embarrassed to be seen with her...
So glad to see a little bit more of the story between Miguel and Rebecca. Glad to see there was a break between Jack's death and them reconnecting. Did it say something about him being in Houston?

Kevin has always been fairly douche-y, even as a child, so his doing that didn't surprise me much. Can't stand Kate's character at all. Dislike Rebecca pretty frequently - I particularly don't like how Randall is so obviously her favorite and Kate is so obviously Jack's favorite. They should be better at hiding it than they are! Probably explains a lot about why Kevin is the way he is.
Yes, Miguel's message said something about Houston and not having spoken to Rebecca in 8 years, which I think would have been about 4 years after Jack died. I'm glad there was some space, but I wouldn't think the kids would be so resentful given that fact.
I didn't understand the Kate thing about sitting in the same spot she was in when Jack "left", unless she was in the car and he went back into the house - maybe while it was on fire, maybe it exploded when he went back inside. That was interesting.

I really enjoyed the episode. At the scene in the nursery when Rebecca was talking was really sweet. I love the scenes with Jack. He really does make me smile. I think Rebecca does to much for Randall. It seems like it's always about Randall. I like that they show Jack looking out for Kate. Poor Kevin is the lost one.

I enjoyed last nights show. I agree, @missjen, that I think they wanted us to notice what Kevin said about Kate standing where Jack left her.
I really don't like Kevin, at all. I keep thinking he is going to grow up. But I don't know that he ever will.
And Randall and Beth naming their child after a ceiling fan?! Hilarious.

I think Kevin and Kate are total screw ups. I don't understand the hate for her and Kevin getting a pass. I think that's the main reason they've always had the closer bond, not necessarily with being bio siblings. Also Rebeca babied Randall more, so there was probably animosity that way. Kevin may have had success career wise but he relied too much on Kate in order to get there. He can't be a responsible adult.
I thought Kevin was a douche when they were trick or treating. The popular boy won't want to hold her hand in the haunted house when I'm almost as popular as him! Let me go trick or treating! It was more like I'm telling on my sister to show how pathetic she is thinking she can get a boy like him. Kid Kevin always treats Randall like shit. He's rarely nice.
I thought the ceiling fan name was hilarious.

The thing that bothers me the most? The should have given Randall a k name. Not the name they picked but another.

(I think it was a poet) I still don't really care for the "replacement baby" storyline but Rebecca's scenes in this episode with the babies were very sweet.

I must admit that I only the scene where she was finishing the costumes.
Um excuse me! If you want the precious princess to have a new costume like she wants, then you sit down and make it for her !
I turned the tv off after that.

My daughter would've been stuck wearing a vet costume. I'm mean like that. 20's Kevin, dick move.
On a funny note, my DD was watching with me and freaking out about the home delivery. I told her it was unlikely that a first labor would progress so quickly. I wonder why they had already scheduled a c-section?

I liked that the episode centered around Halloween on Halloween. I missed the ceiling fan name - I had heard Jack for a boy and Jasmine for a girl though. I will go back and watch. I heard induction for Beth, not C-section.

I think the whole "ceiling fan" name is more about the man at the hardware store who gave him the flyer about the fan. He helped him after Randall poured his heart out about having a breakdown two months earlier. I don't think it was a "I named my kid after a ceiling fan." The show is deeper than the obvious.

Yep, it was an induction. I went back and paused where Beth was looking at the calendar 😊. It had due date, a bunch of days with red X's, and then induction date written on it.
Re Kate's costume... how could any man think that it was okay to ask his wife to make a new/different costume when she'd just finished making the first one?!
I get annoyed at the frequent TV portrayal of births as emergent. They're more the exception than the norm in reality, but so many TV births are done that way.

I just caught up. I am not sure how I feel about the scenes after Kate and that fellow had sex and she confronted him about being married. She was buried up to her neck with thick bedding. Most post coital bedroom talk scene are usually with the girl lazing about in a bra or something. I thought maybe Kate would of been self conscious and it fit her character to hide her body. I hope it wasn't a CBS thing to cover the morbid obesity.

I'm hot and cold on this show - both this season and last season. Kate bugs me, and sometimes Rebecca. However, I always am a fan of Randall and Beth and as the mom of a Tess, I was happy to find out how their Tess was named.

This was covered last season. He was going to be Kyle but after she had a hard time bonding with him she went to William and asked for advice, and he said the boy needed his own name. That name was his only connection to his bio parents. They could have given him his own k name but it wouldn't have tied into that storyline the same way. It wasn't to make him unique, it was to honor his bio parents.

They could have used Randell as his middle name.

I'm glad they gave him his own name. He could have felt like he was the replacement of a dead baby by being given a K name rather than being wanted.

They tried to give Randall a K name last season and he wasn’t bonding with Rebecca. It was an entire storyline last season.

I hope it wasn't a CBS thing to cover the morbid obesity. I think they had her conceal her body because she's really not as big as they've shown her to be in her 20's. So it may have been noticeable if she was lounging in bed just in her underwear. In the pilot, she weighed herself in just her underwear. I could be wrong, but she looked bigger in her 20's than in the pilot.

When you watched this episode, who was the actor named as the star of the movie? The airing I watched named Kevin Spacey. I read in the paper the next day that it was changed to Christian Bale. I am in Canada.

It was Christian Bale. The Kevin Spacey reference was removed when the scandal broke.
