This is getting old. And it’s getting chilly in our home...62° F when I got up this morning. It’s supposed to warm up to 70° today so tonight shouldn’t be too bad.
We had a storm pass through Sunday night into Monday with a lot of wind and rain. There were lots of trees down and a ton of power outages. Unfortunately ours has been categorized as minor because there are under 30 households affected. I just checked the website for the power company and it looks like less than 2000 are still out in our county. They’ve done a great job and I’m sure they’re working really hard.
We were able to save most of the meat in our big freezer by sending it to our son’s house where they had room in their chest freezer but we lost a lot of food. I had gone grocery shopping on Sunday so we were fully stocked with yogurt, cold cuts, produce, etc. I had several containers of homemade soups and chicken broth in the freezer. There just wasn’t any way to save or use most of the stuff. I did make a bunch of coworkers happy yesterday by giving away several small loaves of pumpkin bread from the freezer.
We were scheduled to be restored late tonight then it changed to noon tomorrow and now it’s back to late tonight. I just want to get back to normal.
Update!! So at 10:15 it came back on! 😊

I am angry for you reading that. We don't take power outages well where I live. I mean people call 911 to find out when the power is going to come on and they will go berserk until it is turned back on.
I feel for you. If you were closer I could cook what's in your freezer and you could eat it at night. My BFF has had to cook stuff at my house when her stove has been broken. How bloody awful!

So sorry for you. I have been through extended power outages twice. I now have a whole house generator! Of course, since I had the generator put in, the power has not been off even once !
I remember eating a lot of steak on the grill!

That seems like a crazy long time for power to be out. I’d be frustrated, too.
That storm must have been bad. I was in the Marriott Customs House in Boston on Sunday night and we thought we could feel that tall, skinny building swaying slightly in the strong winds. No wonder it did some damage.

We have a vacation rental in Maine which, fortunately, did not lose power. But some friends of ours lost power and had to cancel a rental this week. They hear from our shared caretaker that some areas (in rural Maine) are predicted to not have their power return until December 1st! I can't imagine and I'm sure it's getting chilly.
I hope you get power back soon. We lost ours here in Houston for two weeks after Ike and I know it's no fun at all.

Fearing a power outage and no way to cook, I bought one of those big warmer tray things headed by stereo. I have yet to even open the box but it's my safety net.

My town in CT is in the same boat. We never lost power, but a few did and they are also not considered major because there are so few of them.
I'm sorry - we were out of power for a week with Irene and a week with Sandy. It's awful.

If you were closer I could cook what's in your freezer and you could eat it at night. My BFF has had to cook stuff at my house when her stove has been broken. How bloody awful! The police in our area have asked people not to call 911 unless there is a live wire or someone is hurt, because it clogs up the lines for emergencies. They asked you to call the power company. There were 300,000 people in the state without power. KelleeM That stinks. I hope you get your power back soon. Our MS/HS was closed for three days because they didn't have power, and the town next door is a mess. We're lucky because our local electric company got everyone back on by Tuesday morning. National Grid has been awful for the towns around us.

I was once without power for five days. It was terrible. My heart goes out to you. It's not easy to do anything without power.

My coworker is from Andover and she's in the same boat. It's crazy. We live in Metrowest and had the horrible wind and rain but, thankfully, no power outages in our area.

That storm also came through here, but our power stayed on. I am sorry that you have been without power for so long. I hope you get it turned back on soon. Can you get refunded for the food from the power company? Why on earth would you expect the power company to refund money for lost food? They didn't create the power outage. Mother Nature did. Many of these men and women are working around the clock to get power restored. I know it's frustrating, but don't blame the power company. Those employees are working out in the cold and rain. Some have traveled to Mass from other areas and are without the comfort of home and family. KelleeM, I'm glad your power is back on! That means our men and women can return home soon! Yay!

Well, it's about darn time. It's a shame that you had to throw out all of food. Why do I think you're going grocery shopping after work? Hope you are at least warm and sitting w/the lights on.

The reason why I questioned that is because I know that a friend of mine lost her food due to a power outage and somehow she found out there is a fund at the power company that can help with food loss.

Glad you got your power back!! When I left Foxborough at 5:30 on Monday morning, there was no power in the hotel. We had to get dressed and finish packing in the dark. We dragged our luggage down 3 flights of stairs and luckily, our car service still came. We got to the airport and were lucky enough to get an earlier flight home before everyone else came on stand by.

I’m actually at work and have been all week. Dh has been home with our granddaughter while dd and I work. This has been hardest for him but he’s Mr. Easygoing. I think we’ll wait until tomorrow for groceries. He had a plan for dinner tonight although I can’t recall what it is!

Oh, I"m glad you got your power back and didn't lose all your food.
We had tornadoes here a week ago Monday and were out of power for over 48 hours; my mother was out for 72 so we lost most of 3 freezers and two refrigerators. Our homeowner's insurance pays up to $500 with a $100 deductible on lost food.
We were without cable for Internet for 8 days. We really realize how critical our utilities are.
