I do understand where you are coming from. But the thinking being shown by many many of your elected and appointed leaders in the wake of this is pretty disturbing. Just one example: He represents a separate part of the state from where I live. I've never even heard of him. Of the people I actually KNOW, only one has uttered any kind of support of Moore. Even the politician I'm FB friends with is horrified at this. Lumping people into groups is ugly, and I am disappointed with the Peas that it is being accepted in this instance. Then I would really, really encourage you and the decent people you obviously surround yourself with to get politically involved. Because the “leaders” of your state - both elected and appointed - are doing you a great disservice in how they are presenting the opinions and values of you and your fellow residents of Alabama. They should go. Read this thread from a journalist, which includes quite a number of on-the-record responses from Alabama political leadership. No, we shouldn’t lump everyone together, but these people are being elected and if they don’t represent the values of who they represent, it’s incumbent on the residents of Alabama to replace them with people who do.

Sorry, I can't see tweets....... farmdpea I am sorry if you feel we are talking about you specifically. I'm not. But I do have to say that over the years Moore has been ELECTED to several positions including judgeships, and was removed as a judge TWICE! Someone in Alabama elected him again AFTER he had been removed. He is now running for a position elected by ALL the citizens of Alabama. I cannot believe that the other candidate (Jones?) could be a worse choice. When I vote I think of how the elected person will affect me, my family but also the community (USA) as a whole. Whoever they vote for is their choice.

Alabama state rep: Moore’s accusers should be prosecutedBY AVERY ANAPOL - 11/10/17 11:21 AM EST An Alabama GOP state representative said Friday that he thinks legal action should be taken against the women who accused Roy Moore of sexual misconduct with a minor.State Rep. Ed Henry told the Cullman Times that he is “not buying” the Washington Post report, which was published with accounts from four women and backed up by 30 sources. The report accused Moore of kissing and sexually touching a 14-year-old girl when he was 32. “If they believe this man is predatory, they are guilty of allowing him to exist for 40 years,” Henry said. “I think someone should prosecute and go after them. You can’t be a victim 40 years later, in my opinion.”Moore responded to the allegations by calling them “fake news” and saying that he would soldier on, despite calls from GOP senators for him to drop out of the race. Moore is the favorite to win Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ empty Senate seat, going up against Democratic challenger Doug Jones. “The idea that accusations like this would stop his campaign is ludicrous,” Henry said. “You cannot tell me there hasn’t been an opportunity through the years to make these accusations with as many times as he’s run and been in the news.” thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/359792-alabama-state-rep-roy-moores-accusers-should-be-prosecutedOf course, lock up the accusers! I guess that might end up being thousands all over the USA. Get rid of those women!

"An Alabama Republican political strategist reportedly told Buzzfeed these allegations and the upcoming Alabama special election would serve as a significant test. "We're gonna see if that old adage is true, that the only way he can lose this race is with a live boy or a dead girl," Buzzfeed reported David Mowery said."
] The mental gymnastics of some of the GOP supporters in this case are mind boggling and sickening.
"Another Alabama lawmaker, Marion County GOP chairman David Hall, joined Zeigler in dismissing the claims in the Post report. "It was 40 years ago," Hall told Toronto Star reporter Daniel Dale. "I really don't see the relevance of it. He was 32. She was supposedly 14. She's not saying that anything happened other than they kissed." Hall also dismissed the accounts of three other women included in the Post report, who told the newspaper that Moore had pursued relationships with them as teenagers between the ages of 16 and 18. The women said Moore did not engage in sexual conduct with them. "The other women that they're using to corroborate: number one, one was 19, one was 17, one was 16. There's nothing wrong with a 30-year-old single male asking a 19-year-old, a 17-year-old, or a 16-year-old out on a date," Hall said."
Anthony Weiner who reported to prison for sexting a 15 year old girl, has gotten a really unfair deal according to the apparent GOP standard. A

This could become interesting! Roy Moore can still winAnalysis by Chris Cillizza, CNN Editor-at-large Updated 11:51 AM ET, Fri November 10, 2017 Washington (CNN)Senate Republicans face a dire reality in Alabama following sexual misconduct accusations about Roy Moore, their Senate nominee in Alabama: They want Moore gone from the race but are largely powerless to make that happen. ************** "Some Republicans are so fed up with Moore's behavior that they'd rather lose the seat -- which would make the possibility of a Democratic Senate in 2019 more likely -- than have to deal with him any more.
"Best case scenario is for him to step aside which seems unlikely," said a veteran Republican Senate operative. "Next best case is for the Alabama electorate to beat his ass like a drum and make it clear that regardless of party affiliation the GOP does not tolerate child predators.""www.cnn.com/2017/11/10/politics/roy-moore-senate-republicans/index.html

Alabama poll: Moore and Jones tied following scandalBY BEN KAMISAR - 11/10/17 01:46 PM EST Embattled Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore is tied with Democrat Doug Jones in a new poll on Friday, one day after accusations surfaced that Moore had inappropriate sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl decades ago. Moore and Jones are tied at 46 percent in the new poll by Decision Desk and Opinion Savvy, with 82 percent of respondents aware of the new allegations leveled by named accusers in The Washington Post. In RealClearPolitics's average of polls, which does not yet include the new poll, Moore is leading by 6 points. All of those polls were taken before the allegations of Moore’s sexual conduct were reported. Since the lion's share of respondents were aware of the allegations, it's likely that the new revelations are in part responsible for tightening the race. ************ thehill.com/homenews/campaign/359817-alabama-poll-moore-and-jones-tied-following-scandal

I originally opened the thread with the hope of an intelligent discussion. These quotes say much more about the posters than they do about the Alabamians I know and love. I lived in Mobile Alabama for 13 years from 94 to 07 I am an atheist and a democrat and I love it it was hard to leave Alabama . Yes people are very conservative over there but they are kind and generous too .

They were a Jewish family with an adopted son of Mexican-American heritage, living there with the Army, and everyone, Jews, Christians, the whole community picked on that kid. They couldn't wait to get out of Alabama.

Lumping might be ugly, but right now Moore is tied - TIED - in the latest poll with his Democrat opponent. So the lumping isn't that far removed from reality. 50% of your fellow citizens, and a chunk of their white male elected and non-elected officials, are supporting Moore. Some are demonizing the women who stepped forward. This tweet sums it up for me: ETA: I know it isn't literally 50%. But of those polled, the representative sample, it's neck in neck.

I have friends who retired in Alabama and they are friends almost exclusively with people who also retired there. They said it's like living as ex-pats in a completely foreign country.
If there are reasonable rational conservatives there, why did they keep electing Roy Moore to office?
And the rank stinking disgusting hypocrisy of any Republican who defends that pedophilic ambulating shit stain makes me want to puke. "I'd rather vote for a child molester than a democrat." "We can't cede the senate majority over this." Gross, gross, gross. Whatever moral high ground those kiddie diddler defenders ever had, they've lost it and they will never ever get it back. Nope.

Harry Reid once said "Romney didn't pay any taxes." When it was proven wrong (after the election) he said "Well, he didn't win did he?" So looks like some people at times say things just so someone won't win an election. Imagine that!
the man hasn't been convicted of anything. I hope he didn't do it, but there really isn't any way to know--and here in the USA, a person is supposed to be judged innocent until proven guilty. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen. (this is written by someone that had someone very close to her sexually assaulted and the person that did it faced no criminal charges because it wasn't "proven" nor even taken to court--because nobody else had ever complained about this person. It was a "he said she said" situation. I know it was true because I was left to pick up the pieces of a broken woman.)

I never liked Mitt more than after reading that tweet:
"Innocent until proven guilty is for criminal convictions, not elections. I believe Leigh Corfman. Her account is too serious to ignore. Moore is unfit for office and should step aside."

Hizzoner Roy "Morals" Moore is now fundraising based on today's news - complete with accusations of both Liberal Evil Incarnate and...wait for it..."silencing" tactics. From Time Magazine (with some snips for brevity): A slight hijack - is there a difference between "God-fearing conservatives" and "God-loving"? Heh. Who knows. I always find the term "God fearing" perplexing - and wonder if the lifestyle behavior that ensues (.or is demanded from others) is chosen simply for fear of consequences. It would explain a lot...

Advertisers distance themselves from Hannity after Moore coverageBY MALLORY SHELBOURNE - 11/11/17 07:45 PM EST 268 Two companies have said they will no longer advertise during Fox News’ “Hannity” after critics called for the companies to pull their ads over Sean Hannity’s coverage of the sexual misconduct allegations against Alabama Republican special election nominee Roy Moore. Realtor.com and Keurig both said they are stopping their ads from airing during the show after being questioned about the advertisements on Twitter. Neither company specifically said their decision was over Moore coverage, but only made the announcement in response to critics.
