After Ted Kennedy died MA elected Scott Brown to replace him and this happened....
“When Scott Brown was elected to replace Teddy Kennedy, Senate Dems showed him the courtesy of delaying Obamacare votes until he was sworn in. Will McConnell show Doug Jones the same courtesy in delaying a Senate vote on tax bill? Or will hyper-partisan McConnell ram it through?”
What do you think McConnell will do?

Can you ever imagine this would have happened in the Obama White House?
“Before the Alabama Senate race had officially been called for Doug Jones, White House aides were already bracing for Trump's wrath. My story w @jdawsey1.”
I’m sure President Obama got angry but not to the point the White House aides had to brace for his wrath.

From the Denver Pist...
“The National Park Service on Tuesday said it will trim the number of free-access days to four in 2018 from 10 this year and 16 last year.
“We hope that these fee-free days offer visitors an extra incentive to enjoy their national parks in 2018,” National Park Service Deputy Director Michael T. Reynolds said in a news release.
But the move comes as the park service weighs public input on a plan to more than double gate-fees at its most popular parks, including Rocky Mountain National Park. And heat from conservation groups came quickly.
“America’s parks must remain affordable for working families,” Center for Western Priorities’ advocacy director Jesse Prentice-Dunn said in a statement. “Instead of pushing massive increases to entrance fees and cutting fee-free days, (Interior Secretary) Ryan Zinke should ensure all Americans have access to our parks and public lands.”
When It was first announced Zinke wanted to increase the entrance fee at the popular national parks to $70 it was discussed on this board.
A number of Peas didn’t think it was an issue because of the free days. Well they have just been cut the free days from 10 to 4.

"We are now beginning to better understand the magnitude of this insider bias on Mr. Mueller's team": GOP expresses outrage over FBI officials' political texts politi.co/2C1FqXp“
To protect trump the GOP is using the text messages between two agents one that was booted off Mueller’s team to discredit the investigation.
The only people who would make the accusation that a professional can’t do his job despite his beliefs are those themselves that can’t do the job they are tasked with as the GOP is proving in protecting trump.

Trump: ‘I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election’ BY KYLE BALLUCK - 12/13/17 06:56 AM EST
President Trump in an early morning tweet on Wednesday said he endorsed Sen. Luther Strange (R-Ala.) in the Alabama Senate Republican primary because Roy Moore would not be able to win the general election.
“The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), is that I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election,” the president said.
“I was right!” he added. “Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!”
The reason I originally endorsed Luther Strange (and his numbers went up mightily), is that I said Roy Moore will not be able to win the General Election. I was right! Roy worked hard but the deck was stacked against him!

WH withdrawing Trump judicial pick who has never tried a case BY AVERY ANAPOL - 12/13/17 12:35 PM EST The White House will not move forward with a judicial nominee who has never argued a case in court after the pick drew opposition from a key Senate Republican. A White House spokesperson told The Hill Wednesday that Brett Talley, now a Justice Department attorney, has offered to withdraw his nomination, therefore the nomination “will not be moving forward. President Trump nominated Talley to a lifetime Alabama federal judgeship, and he quickly became one of the president’s most controversial nominees. The American Bar Association deemed him “not qualified” and his lack of experience drew criticism from lawmakers. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, on Tuesday urged Trump to “reconsider” Talley and another judicial pick. Grassley's panel advanced Talley’s nomination last month on a party-line vote. "I would advise the White House not to proceed," Grassley said. thehill.com/homenews/administration/364707-white-house-pulls-back-nomination-of-trump-judicial-pick-who-hasOne down!!

“The Republicans don't give a shit about "norms" and the Democrats fall for it every time. This @libbycwatson piece is so infuriating”
Rather than waiting for Jones to take his seat in the Senate, it seems McConnell will rush the tax cut bill vote.
Unlike the Democrats who waited until Brown was sworn in before voting on the ACA.

I fully believe the right thing to do would be for them to wait. And therefore I seriously doubt that is going to happen. But I'm curious if this is a true comparison.

I don't remember the details, but I think it was a close vote, because I remember there was some sort of carve-out for the Democratic senator from Nebraska (Nelson?), to convince him to vote for it. (Sausage-making at its finest.)

Another judicial nomination pulled.... Later in the day, the White House also said it would not submit paperwork to the Senate for Jeff Mateer, whom Trump had nominated to serve on a district court in Texas. Grassley on Tuesday had urged Trump to “reconsider” both nominees, even though his panel had advanced Talley’s nomination last month on a party-line vote. "I would advise the White House not to proceed," Grassley said. The nominations of Talley and Mateer attracted intense criticism. Mateer, meanwhile, had been under scrutiny for his anti-LGBT views. In a series of speeches made in 2015, Mateer compared homosexuality to bestiality, advocated for gay conversion therapy and described transgender children as a part of “Satan’s plan.” Also in 2015, Mateer slammed the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage, calling it “disgusting.” "What is the limiting? Why couldn't four people want to get married?” he said. “Why not one man and three women? Or three women and one man? ... I mean, it's disgusting." thehill.com/homenews/administration/364707-white-house-pulls-back-nomination-of-trump-judicial-pick-who-hasOh......... “Why not one man and three women? Or three women and one man?" Do these people even listen/pay attention to what they are saying.... Good riddance to both!!

Yes it was a close vote. The Democrats weren’t sure they could get the 60 votes they needed in the Senate to even bring the bill to the floor for a vote.
Mitch let the people decide McConnell will never do the right thing if he thinks it will negatively impact his agenda.
It was “let the new president chosen by the people pick the Supreme Court Justice replacement” even if it meant waiting a year to do so.
Instead Of condemning Moore he said let the people of Alabama decide. Well they did and he is not going to seat their choice until after the tax bill is voted on.

linkFrom FP.... “President Donald Trump has insisted that he will be tougher on terrorism than his predecessor, but a new report indicates that the White House may be planning to reduce funding for key U.S. counterterrorism programs and to eliminate one program altogether. The administration is seeking a total of $568 million in cuts from counterterrorism programs from 2017 levels, according to a report released Tuesday by the Democratic staff of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. The report is based on a document sent from the Office of Management and Budget back to the Department of Homeland Security containing White House guidance on the proposed 2019 budget; the document was leaked to the Democratic staff of the homeland security committee in November.” trump’s thinking is we don’t need this because I have the Secret Service to keep me safe and that is all that matters. Security that the tax payers are paying for.

Asha Rangappa.. “Curious whether we can consider a possibility: That Strozk, a counterintelligence agent and Russia expert, saw a Trump presidency as "terrifying" not because he's a political zealot, but because he was privy to evidence/intel that suggested it would be a national security threat?” Well that is certainly something to ponder. But if the GOP in Congress have their way we’ll never find out one way or the other. Her comment came from reading this Washington Post article. From the article... “The Russian operation seemed intended to aggravate political polarization and racial tensions and to diminish U.S. influence abroad. The United States’ closest alliances are frayed, and the Oval Office is occupied by a disruptive politician who frequently praises his counterpart in Russia.” Does this apply to any country you know? link

linkPaul Waldman has this article in The Washington Post “Let’s be Clear on What Republicans are Really Saying About the Mueller Probe”. From the article.... “This week, in a highly unusual decision, the Justice Department showed reporters many of those texts so they would then be disseminated to the public. They tell us nothing about Mueller’s investigation, since they were sent before there was any investigation. All they tell us, in some colorful language, is that this FBI agent found Trump to be a dangerous fool, an opinion which by sheer coincidence happens to be shared by many people who work for Trump today. Everyone agrees that it’s important that Mueller’s investigation be conducted with the highest standards, in which all the participants examine evidence objectively, pursue potential crimes to wherever they lead, and implicate only those whose actions were genuinely problematic or criminal. But it’s important that we step back and grasp the underlying argument Republicans are making right now. They seem to be saying that if an investigator is revealed to have political leanings, then that investigator is by definition warping the investigation in service of his politics. Not only that, even if he is removed from the investigation, it is forever tainted.” I think he is spot on about what the GOP is doing.

“Paul Ryan can retire now or in 2018, but he will always be the guy who enabled Trump's worst behavior, lied about health care and taxes, and coddled racist clowns like Steve King to maintain power.
Paul Ryan is as responsible for the rot at the heart of his party and the political system as Steve Bannon or Trump.
I don't like Paul Ryan“
I agree with Dan on this one, Ryan is nothing but a stone cold SOB. If true he is retiring that is a good thing. The American people deserve better than Paul Ryan. If he is running in 2018 I will be donating to his Democratic opponent.
