“Speaker Ryan tells @gma $25 billion in Medicare cuts under tax bill "will not happen," but declines to rule out possibility of any Medicare cuts in 2018: "We're not focused on that. We're focused on getting people from welfare to work." abcn.ws/2kthHJl” Isn't Medicare for the disabled and elderly, and Medicaid for the low income people, and does he know the difference? So he plans to cut Medicare, for which we pay into as part of our social security taxes, and are required to sign up for it. And how is that welfare to work going to operate if you are too old and are entitled to retirement, or too disabled to work? Because these politicians are so busy at clouding (or so good) at clouding issues, they only create the confusion and unrest that they thrive on.

Trump, speaking about the tax bill during a Cabinet meeting, says:‘‘Obamacare has been repealed in this bill."
I don't remember that being one of the GOP's selling points on this bill. Weren't they going on and on about how the tax bill is designed to help the middle class? God, I hate them all right now.

“More praise from Pence: “I want to thank you, Mr. President. I want to thank you for speaking on behalf or and fighting every day for the forgotten men and women of America."

“I ran 16 Cabinet meetings during Obama's 1st term. Our Cabinet was never told to sing Obama's praises. He wanted candid advice not adulation”
I suspect the one thing missing from a trump cabinet meeting is candid advice.

The most surprising winners from Trump’s ‘America First’ tax plan are not American BY MATTHEW GARDNER, OPINION CONTRIBUTOR — 12/20/17 12:30 PM EST 47 THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY CONTRIBUTORS ARE THEIR OWN AND NOT THE VIEW OF THE HILL
How can the president’s tax plan be more generous to foreigners than to the entire middle-class population of the United States? The answer lies in Trump’s choice to make corporate tax cuts the focal point of his plan. The final bill cuts the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent and introduces a variety of new tax avoidance opportunities for big multinational companies. Mainstream economists agree that the main beneficiaries of a corporate tax cut are the shareholders of the companies that pay the tax. And while many Americans own small amounts of corporate stock, the vast majority of stock is owned by wealthy households and not the middle-class.
But it turns out that a surprisingly large share of this stock is owned by foreign investors. Recent research estimates the foreign-owned share to be 35 percent of the total. That means any corporate tax cut will benefit foreign investors.

Rep. Duffy says he has not read full tax bill video GOP Rep. Sean Duffy: I have read 'wide swaths' of the tax bill Sophie Tatum, CNNUpdated 10:04 AM ET, Wed December 20, 2017 Washington (CNN)The House of Representatives will vote Wednesday for a second time in two days to pass the final version of the GOP's tax plan, but not all House members have read it in its entirety. When asked by CNN's Alisyn Camerota on "New Day" if he had read the full bill, Wisconsin Republican Rep. Sean Duffy said he had read "wide swaths on some and summaries on others." "I've read -- I can't say every word," Duffy said about whether he had read all of the bill. ****** Duffy explained that because of the complex nature of the subject matter in the bill, he read the summaries to ensure his understanding. "There's parts of the bill that I can read and understand," Duffy said. "Tax code is very, very complicated. As we are dealing with international companies. On some of those more complicated parts I read summaries so I make sure I understand it. Unless you're a tax expert, some of it gets to be very deep. That's why I've chosen to deal with the legislation as I have." www.cnn.com/2017/12/20/politics/sean-duffy-tax-bill-cnn-tv/index.htmlthey read summaries, written by who? Not the people who analyze the true costs/long term issues.

Trump suggests US will cut off aid for countries that vote for UN resolutionBY MAX GREENWOOD - 12/20/17 01:54 PM EST President Trump suggested on Wednesday that the United States could withhold foreign aid for countries that vote in favor of a United Nations (U.N.) resolution calling on the U.S. to withdraw its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.Speaking at a Cabinet meeting, Trump echoed a comment made by U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley a day earlier, saying that the U.S. would take stock of the countries that voted for the resolution, which is set to go before the U.N. General Assembly on Thursday. "I like the message that Nikki sent yesterday at the United Nations for all of these nations that take our money and then they vote against us at the Security Council, or they vote against us potentially at the assembly," he said. thehill.com/homenews/administration/365825-trump-suggests-us-will-cut-off-aid-for-countries-that-vote-for-unDo it MY way or I will punish you!!

Collins lets McConnell slide on promise to shore up insurance markets in 2017 BY ALEXANDER BOLTON - 12/20/17 01:33 PM EST Collins has asked McConnell to hold off on trying to move the ObamaCare-related bill this week because it has “become clear that Congress will only be able to pass another short-term extension to prevent a government shutdown and to continue a few essential programs," according to the statement she released with Alexander. Democrats demand Republicans reauthorize CHIP kids’ health plan before Christmas by ELIZABETH CHUCK DEC 20 2017, 1:27 PM ET Gripping lumps of coal, Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday demanded Republicans act before the holidays to reauthorize coverage for millions of children in low-income families whose health insurance is at risk of running out. "What we're doing here today is basically saying, 'Wealthy Americans, big fat Christmas present for you; Tiny Tim, we're taking your crutch away from you and all the other kids in this country, and we're putting a lump of coal into your Christmas stocking,'" Speier added. Speaking a day after lawmakers passed a Republican-led tax bill that many say will primarily benefit the ultra-wealthy, members of the Democratic Women's Working Group and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., slammed the GOP. "This is the ultimate bad Christmas carol story. This may be the most shameful day in the history of Congress," Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., said at a news conference. Legislators missed the Sept. 30 deadline to renew the Children's Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, a federal program that provides inexpensive health insurance to 9 million children and pregnant women who don't qualify for Medicaid yet can't afford private insurance. The program has enjoyed bipartisan support since its inception in 1997, but this year, legislators let the deadline for reauthorizing CHIP pass as they bickered over other health care issues, primarily the latest Republican-led push to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act. DeVos to reduce loan forgiveness for some defrauded studentsBY BRETT SAMUELS - 12/20/17 05:59 PM EST The Department of Education on Wednesday announced new rules for providing aid to students claiming they were defrauded by their colleges that limits some student loan refunds according to income. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos said the new system "protects taxpayers from being forced to shoulder massive costs that may be unjustified." Under the new process, students’ loan forgiveness will be determined by their income. Those making less than half of what their peers earn will receive full relief, the department said. “No fraud is acceptable, and students deserve relief if the school they attended acted dishonestly. This improved process will allow claims to be adjudicated quickly and harmed students to be treated fairly,” DeVos said in a statement. Those making more than half of what their peers earn will have their debt relief tied to their income. For example, students who take home 70 percent of their peers’ incomes will have 30 percent of their loans forgiven. thehill.com/regulation/administration/365903-devos-to-limit-loan-forgiveness-for-some-defrauded-studentsBetter than her previous thoughts.

Does he have any idea the number of working poor who work full time and still qualify for welfare? Especially Medicaid and food stamps? So what does he plan to do for those who are on welfare because working full time still isn't enough?

House Republicans quietly investigate perceived corruption at DOJ, FBIThe group was born out of frustration over the Justice Department's refusal to explain how it used a disputed dossier. By KYLE CHENEY and JOHN BRESNAHAN 12/20/2017 06:34 PM ESTA group of House Republicans has gathered secretly for weeks in the Capitol in an effort to build a case that senior leaders of the Justice Department and FBI improperly — and perhaps criminally — mishandled the contents of a dossier that describes alleged ties between President Donald Trump and Russia, according to four people familiar with their plans.A subset of the Republican members of the House intelligence committee, led by Chairman Devin Nunes of California, has been quietly working parallel to the committee's high-profile inquiry into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election. They haven't informed Democrats about their plans, but they have consulted with the House's general counsel. ************ "I hate to use the word corrupt, but they’ve become at least so dirty that who’s watching the watchmen? Who’s investigating these people?" he said in a Fox News interview earlier this month. "There is no one."*********** Schiff said committee rules require consultation between Republicans and Democrats, but House Speaker Paul Ryan must enforce bipartisan cooperation if he wants it to occur."And at this point, you have to conclude that he doesn’t," Schiff said. Ryan’s office declined to comment. ************** Much more at link: www.politico.com/story/2017/12/20/house-republicans-quietly-investigate-doj-fbi-310121Republicans holding secret meetings?!?!?!?

McConnell hits Sanders for removing help for home state college from tax billBY JORDAIN CARNEY - 12/21/17 12:39 PM ESTSenate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) knocked Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) after Democrats got a provision removed from the GOP tax plan that would have helped a private college in Kentucky. McConnell said that by stripping out an exemption to the endowment tax for universities with fewer than 500 tuition-paying students Sanders and Democrats are "going after low-income students." "They didn't have to raise the challenge when required. They chose to. And in the process they knowingly hurt schools that provide tuition-free education to students who can't otherwise afford to go to college," he said. *********** McConnell noted that he helped craft the language to shield Berea College, a private college in Kentucky that doesn't charge students tuition, from an endowment excise tax targeting schools with large endowments. But Democrats announced hours before the vote that they would challenge that, as well as a provision on 529 savings championed by Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and the bill's title after the parliamentarian determined they didn't comply with the rules. “In the mad dash to provide tax breaks for their billionaire campaign contributors, our Republican colleagues forgot to comply with the rules of the Senate. We applaud the parliamentarian for determining that three provisions in this disastrous bill are in violation of the Byrd rule," Sanders and Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) said in a statement. linkFrom Vanity Fair.... It seems president tiny hands is upset because people aren’t dancing in the street from pure joy about the tax cuts... From the article. “The amazing thing here is not that the president of the United States is stomping around like a spoiled child who received 39 of the 40 big-ticket items he asked for from Santa. It’s that he can’t fathom a scenario in which his tax bill wouldn’t be universally hailed by the media and the public, outside of a “FAKE NEWS” conspiracy. The president is not alone in this belief; yesterday, Paul Ryan insisted that the bill is only comically unpopular because “people . . . out there on TV [are] telling mistruths, disguising the facts of this thing.” Similarly, former Republican leadership aide John Feehery, told me on Wednesday that “Democrats are losing their minds [on the tax bill] because they hate Trump so much, because they’ve been fed a lot of nonsense by the media.” What sort of outrageous statements by the media have set Trump & Co.’s hair on fire? Perhaps this one from the Associated Press:” You have to read the article to get the tweets that have made trump unhappy.
