Going to Vegas in a few months with DH. Just a fun little getaway. Been about 10 yrs since we've been there. Have stayed at The Mirage a few times & Monte Carlo. Would like to try something new. What's your fave? probably won't be using pool. And we're more casual than dressy. Eta: using taxis/monorail. Some gambling/shopping/eating!

What more do you want out of it? Do you want a clean bed and bathroom? Do you want all your gambling/entertainment/etc. to be in one building? Are there other things you are going to see (shows) such that proximity might be a factor? Does price matter?

Everywhere is casual except some of the restaurants/bars. We prefer to stay at the Palazzo side of the Venetian. Have also stayed at NYNY with the kids, and that was fine, as well as Planet Hollywood. Clean rooms, decent amenities. All have shows and a casino. Mandarin Oriental the rooms are top notch, but it's just a hotel. It's right next door to the Aria, though, so easy enough to gamble or eat over there. But if given a choice, I will always choose one of the big suites at the Venetian/Palazzo.

Hilton Grand Vacation Suites on the Las Vegas StripThis is our favorite. We don't gamble though. It's on the north end of the strip away from all the hustle and bustle. Love the large rooms and having a kitchen. We are HGVC members also, so we stay using our points. You don't have to be a member to stay there though.

Are you renting a car, walking, raking the monorail, bus or taxi to get around?
I'm typically in my room in vegas for 6 or so hours while sleeping, so I don't care about the amenities, but rather if I can get to where I want to go

Paris and Bellagio are favorites. We've stayed in 6 or 7 places and they have all been nice.

I've stayed at the Flamingo, it was nice and not crazy expensive, and centrally located.

I am another one that likes The Flamingo.
Good price, great location, not too huge, nice rooms (I like the GO rooms)

I agree with Paris for location and price. But honestly if I ever go back, I want to go out to the Red Rock Casino out by Red Rock Canyon.

Cosmopolitan, new favorite. Wynn, older favorite. Have to confess that Caesar's Palace makes me happy. I'm not sure why. Maybe it's the shopping. Maybe it's the sushi and the little bakery and the Judith Leiber shops. Not sure.

I agree with Paris for location and price. But honestly if I ever go back, I want to go out to the Red Rock Casino out by Red Rock Canyon. Completely lurve Red Rock Casino! LBS Burger, delicious. Yardhouse!! To die for. I had a butterscotch thing with sea salt caramel that I cannot get out of my mind! But I really think of Red Rock (and the M, too) as a locals kind of place instead of a casino/hotel for visitors. It's so far from everything!

So, for cheap, I've been satisfied with Excalibur, but it has the disadvantage of you still have to walk through New York New York and MGM Grand to get to the monorail.
MGM Grand was okay-- I had a suite and the bedroom was nice but the living room part needed to be redone.
OP, maybe you would like to try Planet Hollywood? I've never been, but it's adjacent to one of the shopping malls (and I think they may be connected...)

Cosmopolitan! Love the room decor and set-up, the views, the balconies (right on the strip!), and the overall vibe. It's also easy walking distance to/from other casinos. It's a quick walk over the bridge to Planet Hollywood, and there is a Walgreens over there too (in case you forget anything or want to pick up some bananas for breakfast). There's a McD's within walking distance, so it was easy for dh to bring me a large fountain drink every morning.

My favorite is the Wynn, but I have only stayed at a few. I loved the pool and the restaurants at The Wynn.

I will tell you where NOT to stay! the LVH now the Westgate.
it is awful, and you smell smoke everywhere, even on nonsmoking floors.
we were there in August just after the takeover by Westgate...they say they will do more renovation, but skip it.
we did find an INCREDIBLE restaurant on the West Side....HONEY SALT...its absolutely wonderful, and not too expensive. Get the Brookie for dessert..warm chocolate brownie goodness with a chocolate chip cookie baked on top, and then delicious caramel sea salt (vanilla) ice cream. share it, or just have that for dinner!! (kidding, dinner and lunches are wonderful!) Fresh and great masterful cooking. very friendly staff.
have fun

I would stay at the Wynn again. Nice room and pool. We "girls" went to relax and lay by the pool. Don't gamble. found a great Mexican restaurant across the street and ate there a few times.

I have only ever stayed at the Wynn. It is gorgeous. My only complaint is that it seems so far from all the action of the Strip.

being far away from the strip would be fine with me!
the Westgate (where we stayed in August and was awful) was off the strip, and on the 'train' line.
we just drove on the strip once, and ate at the French café across from Bellagio the last morning. it was fine.

We've stayed at the Flamingo several times and as long as you upgrade, it is good. We often go to a concert at Caesar's and it is right across the street so a good location for us.
I'll tell you where I won't stay, Bally's. The location might be good but it needs upgrading and right now there is all kinds of construction out front because they have ripped everything out. It's a long way from the strip to the front of the hotel. And the one and only time I ever stayed there, none of the moving sidewalks or escalators worked.
Like someone else said, we are only in our room for a short time so we would rather spend our $ on doing things then on the room. But everyone has different expectations and ideas for their room.

The Cosmopolitan is my favorite because the room was soooo spacious, comfy and decadently upscale, plus we could sit on the balcony and watch the fountains at the Bellagio.

I really enjoyed the golden nugget, but I also like the older part of Vegas more than the newer stuff. I'm all about seeing how things used to be. I found the rooms to be clean and nicely decorated and there are some decent restaurants in the hotel itself. But to be honest, we have been to Vegas three times, and were really only in our room to sleep!
